Chapter 4 Top Secret

On the other side, the old village chief and Li Cuihua did not actually leave.

The two men circled the mud-brick courtyard wall of Wang Tiezhu's house, and with the help of the moonlight and flashlight, they easily saw the collapsed roof tiles in the backyard.

"Yes..."

The old village chief pulled out his pipe from his waist, pointed at it vaguely, and confidently concluded, "That thing, it's probably just smashed there."

"The place was like a pigsty or a latrine."

Recalling the scene inside the house, Li Cuihua frowned and whispered, "Village Chief, what exactly happened to Uncle Tiezhu's family? That little bit of rice porridge in the bowl, and his incoherent talk about borrowing milk powder... Could it be that a baby really fell from the sky?"

The old village chief puffed on his pipe, the flame flickering in the darkness, illuminating his wrinkled face.

He slowly shook his head: "I can't say for sure."

"But that Wang Tiezhu, he's straightforward and can't keep secrets. Judging from his flustered look, there's probably something alive in the house, and it can't be exposed to the light. I bet it's a baby."

"Is it really a doll?!"

Li Cuihua's beautiful eyes widened, she covered her mouth, her voice filled with disbelief.

"Unbelievable, unbelievable! The spirit stones I picked up were inanimate objects, but this is a child!"

The old village chief chuckled, exhaling a puff of pungent smoke, his tone carrying a world-weary air: "In this world, stones fall from the sky, magical seedlings grow from the ground, nothing is surprising anymore. Who knows, it might be some deity manifesting itself, or... something even more sinister."

He swung his pipe and sang a line, "A Lin Daiyu fell from the sky~".

Li Cuihua's eyes darted around, and she quickly began to calculate: "A single stone is worth 100,000, so how much would a living baby be worth?"

Her tone carried a hint of barely suppressed greed.

The old village chief glanced at her, a glint of shrewdness flashing in his cloudy eyes: "The fact that the goods ended up in the Wang family's hands is their good fortune. If he knows what's good for him, he'll report it himself, and the benefits will naturally go to him. But if he's blinded by greed and tries to hide it away, or even runs off with the baby in the dead of night..."

He paused, then tapped his pipe lightly against the wall.

"Hey~ We found a clue and reported it in time, so the credit and benefits should naturally go to us. It's reasonable and justified."

"So, do you think... Uncle Tiezhu and the others will report it?"

"It's hard to say." The old village chief squinted. "That couple has been longing for a child for half their lives. Now that a child has fallen from the sky, they probably won't be able to bear to part with him. They might really take the risk and run away tonight."

Having made up their minds, the two squatted down behind a hidden haystack nearby, intending to see what was going on.

However, the scene of Wang Tiezhu and his wife fleeing in panic that they had envisioned did not occur.

Instead, a scene far exceeded their expectations.

In less than thirty or forty minutes, the roar of huge rotors churning the air filled the night sky!

A fleet of armed helicopters and a massive military transport helicopter, like giant iron birds, hovered above the Wang family's old residence, their searchlight beams illuminating the ruins as bright as day.

The strong airflow whipped up the dust and withered grass on the ground, causing them to dance wildly.

The helicopter doors opened, and squads of soldiers dressed in combat uniforms, wearing tactical helmets, and carrying standard rifles slid down by ropes.

They moved with lightning speed, spreading out silently and efficiently in an instant, controlling all entrances and high points. Their cold gazes swept across the surroundings, bringing with them a suffocatingly chilling aura.

The old village chief and Li Cuihua were so frightened that they dared not breathe, huddled tightly behind the haystack, their hearts pounding wildly.

This is not over yet!

At this moment, a soldier noticed the movement behind the haystack. Two soldiers immediately stepped forward with their guns drawn and, in a firm but polite manner, "invited" the frightened village chief and Li Cuihua to a safer distance away.

"Fellow countrymen, this is now a military control zone. Please leave immediately and keep this matter strictly confidential."

Seeing this scene, the old village chief no longer dared to have any greed. He nodded repeatedly, grabbed the absent-minded Li Cuihua, and staggered away, his heart filled with lingering fear and shock.

When Li Cuihua first discovered the spirit stone, government officials came, but it was nothing like the scene before her.

Spaceships and living beings that are suspected to be extraterrestrials are not comparable to a few rocks!

After the soldiers took control of the area, several people wearing thick white protective suits and full-face respirators, carrying various oddly shaped instruments, were the first to enter the pit in the backyard.

They carefully scanned the bottom of the pit and the environment around the silver sphere with instruments, and complex data jumped on the screen.

"Radiation levels are normal!"

"No harmful organisms remaining!"

"Environmental safety!"

A series of brief reports were transmitted via communicator.

After confirming that it was safe, more professionals stepped forward.

They took out specially made metal brackets and fixing cables that shimmered with a deep blue luster, and began to wrap and secure the huge metal sphere with precise and swift movements.

The entire process was quiet and efficient, with no unnecessary movements, as if it had been rehearsed countless times.

Meanwhile, inside Wang Tiezhu's house.

There was a knock on the door, and instead of soldiers, a middle-aged man in a dark Zhongshan suit, with a capable and gentle demeanor, entered. Behind him was a female doctor in a white coat.

"Comrade Wang Tiezhu, Comrade Zhang Xiulan, hello. My surname is Chen, and I am the commissioner in charge of this incident." The middle-aged man's tone was calm, yet carried an unquestionable authority. "Thank you for making the correct decision, which has made an important contribution to the safety of the country and the people."

Zhang Xiulan held Xia Xinghan tightly in her arms, tears streaming down her face, extremely reluctant to part with him.

Wang Tiezhu supported his wife's trembling shoulders, his eyes also red. He looked at Commissioner Chen, his voice hoarse, "Leader, the child... the child is in your hands now. You must... you must treat him well."

"Please rest assured, he is a national treasure. We will devote all our resources to ensure his healthy and safe growth," Commissioner Chen solemnly promised, then gestured to the female doctor behind him.

The female doctor stepped forward and opened the lid of a "large capsule".

She said gently to Zhang Xiulan, "Sister, let the child go in here. This is a specially made incubator that can guarantee his absolute comfort and safety during transportation."

Zhang Xiulan wept uncontrollably, but after being persuaded by Wang Tiezhu, she reluctantly and carefully placed Xia Xinghan into the incubator.

Xia Xinghan took one last look at the simple, tearful mountain couple through the transparent cabin wall, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

To be honest, it's quite different from his original plan of growing up in a mountain village, bullying geese and dogs, remaining stable until adulthood, and then not eating beef.

But the world we live in now doesn't seem to be part of the DC Universe.

Plans can't keep up with changes.

"Let's just play it safe for now."

Xia Xinghan pondered silently, then slowly closed his eyes, feeling a little tired.

The capsule lid closes, and the internal temperature, humidity, and light are automatically adjusted.

The female doctor picked up the incubation capsule, nodded to Mr. and Mrs. Wang Tiezhu, and then, escorted by a soldier, quickly walked out of the house and boarded a waiting helicopter outside.

"A specialist will maintain contact with you to handle related matters and ensure your well-being," Specialist Chen said to Mr. and Mrs. Wang Tiezhu. "Tonight's events involve top state secrets, so please keep quiet."

After saying that, he turned and left.

Outside, the helicopter's rotors accelerated again, carrying Xia Xinghan, and quickly took off, disappearing into the vast night.

Almost at the same time, loud pulling and locking sounds came from the backyard.

The transport plane, hovering in mid-air, had thick steel cables hanging down, perfectly connecting with the supports fixed to the spacecraft.

Amidst the deafening roar of its engines, the silver, spherical spaceship was steadily lifted and launched into the air.

In the blink of an eye, all personnel and aircraft disappeared like the tide, as if they had never been there.
