Chapter 277 I Don't Eat Beef
The fishy smell from the dock filled my throat.
Li Haotian pushed the wheelchair.
Su Wan sat on it, the cast on her leg still in place.
She looked down and fiddled with the miniature terminal.
"Boss, the ship won't leave for another half hour."
Li Haotian stopped in his tracks.
In front of us was a temporary stall covered with asbestos tiles.
The pot lid was lifted.
White mist swirled out, carrying the aroma of noodles.
"Eat something first."
He sat down on the bench in front of the stall.
The bench was covered with a thick layer of grease.
"Boss, two bowls of vegetarian noodles, with extra greens."
The boss is bald.
He was grabbing a handful of dry noodles and tossing them into the pot.
"No meat?"
"No beef."
The owner responded and skillfully used long chopsticks to stir the noodles.
Su Wan turned her head to look at Li Haotian.
"You used to really like this."
Li Haotian leaned back in his chair.
He looked at the waves churning on the distant sea.
"The smell of red meat makes me nauseous."
There were four men sitting at the next table.
The one leading the group was wearing a tight-fitting vest.
His marble-like pectoral muscles stretched his vest out of shape.
He wore a gold chain as thick as a finger around his neck.
"Boss, where's the beef?"
The burly man slammed his hand on the table.
The vinegar pot on the table jumped three times.
The boss walked over with a spoon in his hand.
He had a fawning smile on his face.
"Brothers, what a coincidence."
"We're sold out of beef shank for today."
The burly man spat the toothpick out of his mouth onto the ground.
He stood up and grabbed the boss's apron.
Sold out?
"I came all the way from the South District, and you're saying there's no meat left?"
The boss was so frightened that he shrank back.
"Tomorrow, I'll definitely save it for you tomorrow."
The burly man snorted coldly.
He turned his head.
He saw the plain noodles that had just been served in front of Li Haotian.
Two bowls of noodles were steaming hot.
Lush green vegetables were laid on top.
"Why does he have it, but I don't?"
The burly man loosened his grip on the shopkeeper.
He strode over to Li Haotian's desk.
He looked down at the bowl of noodles.
"Hey kid, there's no meat hidden in this bowl?"
Li Haotian picked up his chopsticks.
He picked up a strand of noodles and slowly blew on it.
"No meat."
The burly man squinted.
He made a sudden move.
He slapped the edge of Li Haotian's bowl.
"Splash—"
The porcelain bowl shattered on the ground.
The noodles were hanging on Li Haotian's jacket.
Soup dripped down the wooden table.
Su Wan stopped typing.
She lifted her eyelids and looked at the burly man.
"What are you doing?"
The burly man pointed at Li Haotian.
He spat in Li Haotian's face.
"What are you looking at?"
"I said no, and that means no."
Li Haotian lowered his head.
He stared at a piece of noodle on the shoe.
That was fresh out of the pot.
It was still steaming.
"I don't eat beef."
He spoke, but his voice betrayed no emotion.
The burly man laughed wildly.
He turned to look at his accomplices behind him.
"Did you hear that? This poor bastard said he doesn't eat beef."
Those henchmen joined in the commotion.
"Are you not going to eat it, or can't you afford it?"
Li Haotian slowly raised his head.
He looked at the burly man's face, his fleshy features trembling wildly.
"But I also don't like wasting food."
The burly man seemed to find it a joke.
He raised his fist.
A fist the size of a clay pot whistled through the air as it slammed down towards Li Haotian's temple.
Li Haotian remained seated.
His right index finger was bent.
He flicked the burly man's knee lightly from under the table.
"Snap!"
The sound was very crisp.
It was like stepping on a dry branch.
The burly man's fist froze in mid-air.
His face instantly turned from flushed to deathly pale.
His left kneecap bent backward at an astonishing angle.
White bone fragments pierced through the leather pants.
He let out a mournful wail.
He lost his balance due to the excruciating pain.
He collapsed to the ground with a thud.
He hugged his thighs and rolled around frantically in the mud.
The henchmen were stunned for half a second.
They didn't see clearly what Li Haotian did.
"Kill him!"
The two burly men pulled out boning knives from their lower backs.
They pounced on them from the left and right.
Li Haotian simply lifted his eyelids.
He looked into the eyes of the person at the very front.
A violent aura emanated from his body.
That's not the look a human being should have.
Hidden within is a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood in the deep underground abyss.
The two henchmen stopped two meters away from Li Haotian.
The knives in their hands trembled incessantly.
"Tick-tock, tick-tock."
A foul odor permeated the air.
One of the burly men was trembling.
His crotch was soaked.
He rolled his eyes.
He was so terrified by the murderous intent that he collapsed to his knees.
The remaining people dropped their knives.
They knelt on the ground and vomited profusely.
Li Haotian stood up.
He patted the noodle soup off his clothes.
The boss was hiding behind the stove, still holding a strainer in his hand.
"Sir... I'll get you a different bowl..."
The boss's voice was trembling.
Li Haotian pulled out a wad of banknotes from his pocket.
That was several thousand dollars in cash.
He casually tossed the money onto the greasy table.
"I don't need the noodles."
He looked down at the bowl of broken porcelain on the ground.
"This money is for adding meat to the dishes for the people who come later."
The boss stared, unsure whether to accept the money or not.
Li Haotian pushed Su Wan.
He walked past the burly man who was still wailing.
He stepped over the burly man.
"Let's go."
Su Wan put away the terminal.
She glanced back at the man with the broken leg.
"Boss, you've gotten too angry."
Li Haotian remained silent.
He pushed his wheelchair deeper into the dock.
The cranes at the dock roared.
A fishing boat painted in rust color docked at the shore.
A man in a raincoat waved from the deck.
"Going to international waters?"
The man jumped off the boat, holding a shiny, oily tobacco pouch in his hand.
Li Haotian nodded.
"Are you coming or not?"
The man glanced at Su Wan in the wheelchair.
He exhaled a smoke ring.
"You understand the rules, right?"
"Don't ask where they came from, don't remember their names."
Li Haotian handed over the last banknote.
The man took the money and spit on his thumb.
After counting the tobacco, he tucked the pipe into his waistband.
"Get on the ship."
Li Haotian picked up the wheelchair.
He strode onto the deck.
The boat rocked slightly in the waves.
A strong smell of diesel fuel and salty fish enveloped us.
Su Wan pointed to the eastern horizon.
There is a black line there.
"The beacon vibrations have started again."
Li Haotian stood at the bow of the boat.
He looked into the distance.
On the distant sea, a bolt of lightning ripped through the dark clouds.
He felt his blood vessels twitching.
That was a response to that power.
The fishing boat started.
Black smoke billowed from the chimney.
It carried two people and headed towards that cursed sea.
The wailing from the shore grew fainter and fainter.
Li Haotian touched the dagger at his waist.
"Lin Mo".
He murmured the name.
The waves lapped against the gunwale of the ship.
It made a sound like it was crying.
