Chapter 358 I Focus on One Culinary Skill
Li Haotian held Lin Mo with his left hand.
He lifted his leg and stepped over the alloy wall.
The soles of my feet slammed into the molten metal, producing a piercing, shrill sound.
Opposite the wall is a spacious hall.
Hundreds of researchers in white lab coats sat on metal benches.
They were holding cutlery in their hands.
All of these people's movements froze.
The noise in the restaurant disappeared instantly.
Only the faint sound of rows of delivery pipes undulating remained.
Li Haotian looked around the staff canteen.
The ceiling was very high, with several rows of blue and white fluorescent lights hanging from it.
He looked down at Lin Mo in his arms.
Lin Mo was rubbing his stomach, his eyes scanning back and forth across the row of food counters.
Li Haotian strode towards the center of the restaurant.
His heels struck the floor with a dull thud.
Several of the bolder researchers tried to stand up and back away.
Li Haotian didn't even glance at them.
He walked up to a table.
Several huge plastic buckets were placed on the platform.
The bucket was filled with a light green paste and some synthetic meat chunks that shimmered with a purple light.
The piece of meat looked like a lump of solidified glue.
Li Haotian stretched out a finger and dipped it into the green paste.
He brought it to his nose and smelled it.
The smell made him frown.
"Do you pioneers eat this pig swill every day?" Li Haotian turned and asked.
He pointed to the bucket of green nutritional paste.
No one dared to speak.
The bald researcher closest to him shrank back.
The fork in the man's hand fell to the ground.
"Say something." Li Haotian tapped the metal tabletop.
Where his finger landed, the stainless steel plate was dented.
"This...this is a high-purity biological extract," the bald researcher muttered to himself.
There was an overwhelming sense of fear welling up in his throat.
"Extract?" Li Haotian scoffed.
He casually picked up the whole bucket of paste and turned it upside down on the ground.
The viscous green liquid spilled out, resembling a disgusting swamp.
"Even a dog would shake its head at this kind of garbage," Li Haotian commented.
Lin Mo tugged at his sleeve.
"Haotian, I'm hungry," Lin Mo whispered.
She pointed to the closed oak door in the back kitchen.
"There's a sweet smell over there," Lin Mo added.
Li Haotian hugged her tightly.
"Fine, we won't eat this junk," he said.
He strode towards the kitchen.
Two security guards in black uniforms stood guard at the entrance.
They raised the stun guns, trembling.
Li Haotian didn't even stop walking.
He casually swung his free right hand.
A golden-red afterimage flashed by.
The two alloy stun guns snapped into several pieces instantly.
Before the two security guards could react, they were thrown away by the force.
They crashed into the metal trash can and passed out without even uttering a groan.
Li Haotian kicked the oak door.
"Bang!"
The entire door flew inwards and crashed.
A group of chefs in the kitchen were huddled under the cutting board.
They were holding kitchen knives and slotted spoons.
Upon seeing Li Haotian barge in, the fat chef in the lead screamed in fright.
"No...don't kill me!" The fat chef threw down the spatula in his hand.
Li Haotian glanced around.
The equipment here is quite complete.
A clean stainless steel stove.
Neatly arranged spice racks.
There were also several cold storage doors that exuded a chilly atmosphere.
"Get out of here, all of you," Li Haotian said, pointing to the door.
His voice wasn't loud, but it made the chefs feel like they'd been granted a pardon.
In less than ten seconds, everyone in the kitchen had fled.
Li Haotian placed Lin Mo on a high stool to the side.
"Wait a minute," he said.
He walked to the door of the cold storage and gripped the heavy rotary lock with one hand.
He twisted it with force.
The sound of the lock cylinder breaking echoed crisply.
He violently yanked open the door to the cold storage room.
A plume of white mist shot out from within.
Li Haotian crawled inside.
He rummaged through the rows of frozen meat shelves.
Finally, he spotted a piece of pork belly with three parts fat and two parts lean on a hook in the corner.
The skin was white and the flesh was red, with a firm texture.
"This is at least somewhat human-like," Li Haotian muttered to himself.
He tore off that piece of meat that weighed several dozen kilograms.
He carried the meat to the edge of the pool.
Cold water rinsed away the frost on the meat.
Li Haotian pressed his left hand against his flesh, while a bronze dagger silently appeared between his fingers in his right hand.
He flipped his wrist.
The dagger drew countless streaks of golden-red light.
The piece of pork belly bounced on the cutting board.
In the blink of an eye, they turned into uniformly sized chunks of meat.
Each piece was so neatly arranged it looked as if it had been measured with calipers.
Li Haotian swept the chunks of meat into a huge iron pot.
He turned around and turned the knob on the stove.
Blue flames appeared.
Li Haotian frowned.
"The fire is too small," he said.
He extended a finger and touched the center of the flame.
"call--"
A burst of golden-red flames erupted from the stove.
The flames suddenly shot up more than a meter high, almost licking the cigarette lighter.
Li Haotian picked up the iron ladle and skillfully stir-fried the ingredients in the pot.
The oil on the surface of the meat is forced out by the high temperature.
The crackling sound drowned out the alarm outside.
A rich aroma of meat began to swirl through the narrow kitchen.
Lin Mo sat on the stool.
She swung her legs, her nose twitching.
"It smells so good." Lin Mo's eyes curved into crescents.
Li Haotian grabbed a handful of large pieces of wood from the shelf.
Star anise, cinnamon, bay leaves.
He didn't even look at it, and just casually threw it into the pot.
The pile of seasonings landed on the meat pile with the precision of bullets.
He then grabbed a bottle of dark soy sauce.
With a flick of his thumb, the bottle cap flew off.
"Ton ton ton".
The reddish-brown liquid coated the meat chunks with a deep color.
He grabbed a handful of glistening rock candy.
With a force exerted from the palm, the rock sugar turned into powder.
He sprinkled the powder evenly on the bottom of the pot.
The meat chunks, coated in caramelized sugar, gleamed with an enticing reddish-brown sheen.
Suddenly, a heavy thud was heard outside.
Several black armed drones flew into the restaurant through the broken windows.
Red lasers swept across the restaurant walls.
Several researchers screamed.
The drone's gun barrel had already locked onto the kitchen door.
Li Haotian had his back to the door.
He held an iron ladle and leisurely stirred the meat in the pot.
"Haotian, there are flies outside," Lin Mo said.
She stared at the red beam of light shining through the crack in the door.
"Ignore them," Li Haotian said.
He grabbed a bucket of purified water that was placed next to him.
He tossed it behind him without looking back.
The bucket traced an arc in the air.
The originally heavy bucket felt as light as a feather in his hands.
The bucket passed through the broken wooden door.
It hit the rotor of the drone at the very front.
"boom!"
The fireball exploded outside the door.
Fragments and parts clanged against the stainless steel door frame.
Li Haotian didn't even turn his head.
He poured purified water into the pot, covering the meat pieces.
He put the heavy iron pot lid on.
"Simmer for twenty minutes." He turned to look at Lin Mo.
Lin Mo pointed outside the door.
The roar of armored vehicle tracks crushing the floor could be heard in the distance.
The vibrations made the condiment bottles in the kitchen tremble.
The boss's voice came from the loudspeaker above the kitchen.
"Li Haotian".
"You destroyed the lab and killed the guards."
"You actually have the mind to stew meat here now?"
The boss's voice was distorted and angry.
He roared loudly on the radio.
Do you know your current situation?
"The entire island's armed forces have surrounded this place."
Li Haotian picked at his ear.
He pulled a flattened cigarette out of his pocket.
He rubbed his fingertips together.
Golden-red sparks appeared, and the tobacco was ignited.
He exhaled a puff of pale blue smoke.
"What's all the noise about?" Li Haotian said to the empty ceiling.
"You know nothing about life."
"I'm making braised pork right now."
"If you're so capable, let your people come in and have a taste."
There was a deathly silence on the other end of the broadcast.
The boss seemed at a loss for words, unable to handle Li Haotian's shameless behavior.
Outside the restaurant, the sound of orderly footsteps grew closer.
The heavy boots clicked and clacked on the marble floor.
Li Haotian leaned against the stove.
He had one hand in his pocket, a cigarette dangling from his lips.
"Boss," Li Haotian smiled.
"Your so-called 'purification' program is nothing special."
"The amount of poison gas is too small."
"Wait until this pot of meat is cooked."
"I'll come talk to you again."
He glanced down at the steam rising from the gap in the pot lid.
The aroma has become very concentrated.
That's the taste of fat and sugar fused together under high pressure.
Lin Mo stared at the pot.
Her little face was rosy.
She didn't even bother to look at the densely packed soldiers outside the door.
Dozens of heavily armed and reinforced soldiers stormed into the restaurant.
They were carrying huge alloy shields.
The muzzle of the gun peeked out from the gap in the shield.
The leading officer shouted through his helmet loudspeaker.
"Listen up, you people inside!"
"Lay down your weapons and surrender immediately!"
Li Haotian ignored him.
He turned around and lifted the pot lid.
"boom!"
The rich aroma exploded like a bomb in the center of the kitchen.
Milky white steam instantly spread out.
The meat chunks in the pot were bubbling.
The broth has almost reduced.
Each piece of braised pork is crystal clear.
Fatty but not greasy, lean but not dry.
Li Haotian found a clean white porcelain bowl.
He took a large ladle and scooped the food into the bowl, piece by piece.
Until the bright red chunks of meat piled up into a small mountain.
He carried the bowl and walked up to Lin Mo.
"Eat up," Li Haotian said.
He casually pulled a pair of chopsticks from the chopstick holder.
Lin Mo eagerly took the large bowl.
She picked up a piece of meat and put it in her mouth.
"Hmm!"
Lin Mo closed her eyes happily.
A faint purple light flickered in her pupils.
That's a sign that energy is being replenished rapidly.
"It's delicious," Lin Mo mumbled.
Li Haotian patted her head.
He turned around and walked towards the entrance to the kitchen.
He was still holding the blackened iron spoon in his hand.
The soldiers at the gate were nervously pulling on their triggers.
They stared at the man with a cigarette in his mouth and a spoon in his hand.
This art style is completely out of sync with the technological feel of this place.
Li Haotian walked to the door and glanced at the dense array of gun barrels outside.
He slowly exhaled a puff of smoke.
"I only have this one spoon."
"Who's planning to go up and take the hit first?"
As he spoke, he weighed the iron spoon in his hand.
The iron spoon made a heavy hum as it sliced through the air.
The soldiers collectively took a step back.
The previously dense formation began to loosen slightly.
Li Haotian laughed arrogantly.
He glanced back at Lin Mo, who was enjoying his meal.
Eat slowly.
"No one dares to steal it."
He held the spoon across his chest, his eyes fixed on the tall tower in the distance.
"My main skill is cooking."
"While you're at it, clean up this tasteless trash."
He stepped out of the kitchen door.
The floor cracked open under his foot.
A massacre led by spatulas and ladles.
The event began in a restaurant filled with delicious aromas.
Over the loudspeaker, the boss's breathing became rapid.
"madman……"
"They're all crazy..."
Li Haotian didn't have time to pay attention to him.
He had already charged toward the massive alloy shield.
The strong wind generated by the iron spoon.
It left a straight white trail in the air.
The braised pork was still warm.
An intense killing intent filled the entire hall.
Lin Mo stuffed another piece of meat into his mouth.
She watched Li Haotian's retreating figure.
A provocative smile, exactly like Li Haotian's, appeared on his lips.
The bowl of braised pork was under the light.
It was blindingly red.
It's so red it's unsettling.
