The car door opened, and the man sitting inside was immediately visible.

Nan Shu got into the car. The interior was spacious and quiet enough that she could hear her own heartbeat.

Four years have passed, and he seems unchanged, yet he exudes a sense of estrangement and unfamiliarity.

The car smoothly merged into the traffic, and she finally mustered the courage to break the suffocating silence.

"Qi Yuye".

She spoke, her voice soft, yet trembling slightly.

Upon hearing the sound, the man finally turned his head slowly.

His dark eyes stared straight at her, unfathomable. His gaze lingered on her face for a moment before turning away.

Nan Shu felt a chill run down her spine under his gaze, but she forced herself to continue, "Chen Jingyan, he..."

"What happened to him?" Qi Yuye finally spoke, his voice trailing off with a hint of cold amusement, "Dead?"

Nan Shu felt a sudden stab to her heart.

"He's missing, caught in a mudslide... Please, let him go." She almost pleaded, "This has nothing to do with him, it's all coming for me, isn't it?"

Qi Yuye twitched the corners of his mouth, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.

"Nan Shu, in what capacity are you begging me?" He leaned towards her, a powerful pressure instantly enveloping her. "Mrs. Chen?"

He emphasized the last three words very heavily.

The air inside the carriage seemed to have been sucked out, and Nan Shu felt it was difficult to breathe.

"You've really gone to great lengths for him." Qi Yuye's fingertips tapped lightly on his knee, one tap after another, the rhythm neither too fast nor too slow, yet it made Nan Shu's heart flutter. "Four years ago, you made a huge fuss over your divorce with a single lawsuit. Four years later, you're offering yourself up for your new love. Nan Shu, you've really grown some skills."

His tone was full of mockery.

Nan Shu's face turned pale, and her lips moved slightly: "It's not what you think between him and me."

"What do you mean?" Qi Yuye suddenly reached out and grabbed her chin.

His fingertips had thin calluses, and although he didn't use much force, he exuded an irresistible power.

The familiar touch made Nan Shu stiffen. The days and nights of entanglement from four years ago, the feeling of powerlessness when he was in her grasp, instantly returned.

"Or is it that you two were deeply in love, that he would risk his life for you, and you're willing to beg me, his ex-husband, for his sake?" He leaned closer to her, their breaths mingling, his warm breath on her face: "Nan Shu, do you find this funny?"

Nan Shu turned her face away, trying to break free from his grip, but he held her even tighter.

"Qi Yuye, what exactly do you want?" Her eyes were red and her voice was trembling with tears.

"What do I want?" He chuckled softly and released his grip.

Nan Shu's heart sank to the bottom.

She knew he wouldn't let her off easily, much less Chen Jingyan.

"If you want to save him, you can."

Nan Shu suddenly looked up at him.

He casually crossed his long legs, as if he weren't the aggressive person from just moments ago.

"Shengda has a new project recently, a high-end jewelry collection that focuses on Eastern aesthetics." He looked at her, his eyes unfathomable. "We need a dedicated designer."

Nan Shu was stunned.

"I……"

"You have no choice but to agree," Qi Yuye interrupted her, his tone leaving no room for argument. "This is condition one."

"What about condition two?" she asked in a hoarse voice.

Qi Yuye's gaze fell on her.

"To facilitate communication and ensure project progress," he paused, then parted his thin lips slightly, "you'll move in with me during the project period."

Nan Shu's mind went blank with a "buzz".

Should I move in with him?

"Impossible!" she refused without even thinking.

You're already divorced, why can't you let yourself go!

"Is that so?" Qi Yuye chuckled lightly. "Then let Chen Jingyan stay in the mountains for a few more days and see if he's tough enough. Or, how long do you think the Chen Group can hold out?"

Every word he said was like a heavy hammer blow, striking Nan Shu's heart.

Looking at the man she once loved to the core, she felt only a sense of unfamiliarity and dread.

Nan Shu closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and when she opened them again, all that remained in her eyes was a deathly stillness.

"Hmm, what should we do? He needs chemotherapy and can't be without his mother."

Mentioning "umm," Qi Yuye's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.

"Your... debt collector?" He seemed to be recalling that name.

"Move over here together, and I'll have the best team in the port city at my disposal."

Nan Shu froze completely.

Seeing that she remained silent, Qi Yuye seemed to lose patience and instructed his assistant in the front row, "Contact the rescue team in the mountains. You can call it a day for now."

"No!" Nan Shu almost screamed.

She looked at him, and tears finally broke free, falling one by one onto the back of her hand.

I promise you.

When Nan Shu returned to the hospital, it was already dawn.

Old Madam Chen hadn't slept all night and was sitting on a bench outside the ward. Seeing her return, she rushed over, her face filled with urgency and hope: "How did it go? Did Qi Yuye...did he agree?"

"Mm." Nan Shu nodded, her voice a little hoarse. "Jing Yan will be alright."

Upon hearing this, Madam Chen's tense nerves finally relaxed, and she went limp.

But when she saw Nan Shu quietly packing up Enen's clothes and belongings, her expression changed again.

"The doctor said I can be discharged?"

"I...I'm moving with Um."

"Moving? Where to?" An ominous premonition rose in Madam Chen's heart.

Nan Shu didn't look at her, but kept her head down, putting Enen's favorite teddy bear into the suitcase. "Qi Yuye's conditions."

"You!" Old Madam Chen instantly bristled, her voice shrill. "I knew it! Nan Shu, have you been waiting for this day all along? Using my son's life to exchange for your wealth and glory, what are you plotting?!"

Nan Shu opened her mouth as if to explain, but the words wouldn't come out.

"You jinx! You wretched woman who brings bad luck to her husbands!" Old Madam Chen's insults grew increasingly vile. "Our Chen family must have had the worst luck in eight lifetimes to have you! Get out, get out right now! Don't let me see you again!"

She grabbed an apple from the table and threw it hard at Nan Shu.

Nan Shu didn't dodge; the apple hit her shoulder and rolled to the ground.

She simply zipped up her suitcase silently.

In the hospital room, woken up, Ee-ee rubbed her eyes and asked in a childish voice, "Mommy, what happened to Grandma?"

Nan Shu turned around, her face now radiating a gentle smile. She knelt down and stroked her son's soft hair. "It's alright, Grandma was just joking with Mom. Mom will take you to a different environment."

He nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.

Nan Shu held her son's hand and pulled her suitcase, unable to face Old Madam Chen.

As she stepped out the door, Qi Yuye's secretary was already waiting there, respectfully opening the car door for her.

Nan Shu carried Enen into the car, her eyes finally welling up with tears.

Chen Jingyan, I'm sorry.
