The Golden-Eyed Life of a Security Guard

Chapter 35 Superpowers: Ghostly Appearances

Zhou Sheng pricked up his ears and listened carefully for a moment, a glint of light flashing in his eyes: "He ran into the woods ahead, and his breath is still very clear!"

Without a word, Gu Yuebai turned and chased after him. Zhou Sheng manipulated the wind element, instantly doubling his speed, rushing to the front like a whirlwind.

Not long after, he spotted a black figure staggering and running deep in the woods—it was Li Gui.

"Where do you think you're going to run?" Zhou Sheng flashed forward, blocking Li Gui's path, his hands gathering wind blades as he roared, "You think you can outrun me?"

Li Gui clutched his chest, his face deathly pale, barely breathing. He saw the wind element surrounding Zhou Sheng, a flicker of fear crossing his eyes, and asked in a hoarse voice, "You are... a superhuman?"

Just then, Gu Yuebai, Di Liuyue, and the others arrived and surrounded Li Gui. Gu Yuebai, holding a peach wood sword, her eyes blazing, coldly questioned, "Who are you? Did you set up the Five Ghosts Locking Yin Formation at the Imperial View Mansion?"

Li Gui's gaze swept over Di Liuyue and the other three, sensing the supernatural energy flowing within them. Finally, it landed on Gu Yuebai, his eyes filled with astonishment and suspicion: "My formation... you broke it, didn't you? Those four don't have that much power... who exactly are you?"

"Your men are here." Di Liuyue stepped forward, revealing her identity. "We are from the National Supernatural Abilities Bureau, ordered to arrest you. You used Yin Sha Qi to harm workers and set up evil formations. Do you have anything else to say?"

"National Bureau of Supernatural Abilities?" Li Gui's pupils shrank, and a look of fear appeared on his face. He looked around; all he could see were dense forests, with no way to escape.

He gritted his teeth, suddenly formed hand seals, and silently chanted a spell. A faint black aura once again emanated from his body—even though his essence was damaged, he still wanted to make one last desperate attempt.

Gu Yuebai had already seen through his thoughts and sneered, "You're about to die, and you still want to resist?" He suddenly swung his right hand, and an invisible, intangible energy needle condensed at his fingertip. Like the sharpest blade, it pierced Li Gui's mute acupoint with lightning speed. This acupoint is a vital point in the human body. Once struck, the body will stiffen and lose the ability to move.

Just as Li Gui was about to activate the remaining Yin energy, he felt a numbness in the back of his neck, and all his strength instantly dissipated, along with the black energy. His legs went weak, and he staggered to the ground, his body stiff and unable to move. He could only watch helplessly as Zhou Sheng and Li Shaohui stepped forward and pinned him down.

Di Liuyue shouted to the three of them, "Take him back for interrogation first. I want to say a few words to Gu Yuebai."

"Yes!" The three men, holding the immobile Li Gui, turned and left.

Only Gu Yuebai and Di Liuyue remained in the woods. Gu Yuebai looked at her calmly and asked in a composed tone, "What do you want to tell me?"

"I came here for two purposes," Di Liuyue said. "First, to find out who is behind the Yin Sha disease and bring them to justice—and now, that purpose has been achieved."

Gu Yuebai remained noncommittal, gesturing for her to continue.

Di Liuyue slowly paced around Gu Yuebai, her gaze scrutinizing him: "Secondly, I am under orders from the director to bring you back to the Kyoto Supernatural Abilities Bureau."

"Take me to the Kyoto Supernatural Abilities Bureau?" Gu Yuebai raised an eyebrow, her face showing obvious surprise. "Why should I go?"

Di Liuyue nodded and began to tell Gu Yuebai about the origins of the National Bureau of Supernatural Abilities. From her, Gu Yuebai learned that this world was no longer as ordinary as it seemed on the surface.

There exists a special energy in the world. Some gifted individuals unconsciously absorb this energy over time and awaken their special abilities.

"Some people awaken elemental control, able to manipulate the elements of heaven and earth such as wind, thunder, water, and fire, and cast spells; some people can enhance themselves, making their speed and strength far exceed those of ordinary people; and there are also special people who can control their spirit and consciousness, such as me, who can perform mental attacks and manipulations."

Di Liuyue explained, "Besides that, there are people who can imitate the evolutionary direction of animals and form special combat methods, such as werewolves and snake people. All of these belong to people with superpowers."

She paused, then continued, "However, there aren't many people who have awakened superpowers. In order to avoid causing social panic and to maintain order, the country established the Superpower Bureau, specifically to deal with those who use superpowers to commit evil."

At the same time, all those who awaken supernatural abilities must register with the Supernatural Abilities Bureau. Those with outstanding abilities will be recruited as members by the Bureau with high salaries and enjoy special benefits—even the lowest-ranking members will have a battalion-level military rank.

"Battalion-level rank? Can he mobilize troops?" A hint of interest flashed in Gu Yuebai's eyes.

"No," Di Liuyue answered truthfully.

Gu Yuebai rolled her eyes, her interest instantly waning.

"However," Di Liuyue changed the subject, coaxing him gently, "as long as you reveal your identity as a member of the Supernatural Abilities Bureau to the local police station, all county-level public security bureaus except for the chief must obey your orders."

Furthermore, the General Administration provides its members with various resource support, from energy crystals needed for cultivation to the authority granted when dealing with troubles—a level far beyond what ordinary people can achieve.

This energy crystal is actually a physical manifestation of "Qi" in the universe, just like ordinary crystals, but its color is a crystal clear green.

Seeing Gu Yuebai still hesitant, Di Liuyue had no choice but to resort to her trump card, her tone becoming serious: "If you refuse to register and do not accept the supervision of the Supernatural Abilities Bureau, according to regulations, the Bureau will consider you a threat and eliminate you. I know you are powerful, but no matter how powerful you are, you can't be stronger than a country."

These words struck Gu Yuebai's heart like a hammer blow. He knew very well that one person alone could never contend with an entire nation. After a moment of silence, Gu Yuebai helplessly spread his hands: "So, you're saying I have to go whether I want to or not? Then why are you wasting your breath?"

"I just hope you can join us voluntarily, instead of being forcibly taken away," Di Liuyue said, her tone softening.

"Alright, alright, enough talk." Gu Yuebai waved her hand. "Let's go, come back soon, I have things to take care of."

After leaving the Imperial Garden, Xiao Yi and the other two, along with the man in the black Taoist robe, got into a car, while Di Liuyue sat in Gu Yuebai's Audi.

On the way, Gu Yuebai called Wu Yueming and told him the result.

When Wu Yueming learned that everything was alright at the Imperial View Mansion, he was so excited that he didn't know what to say and kept expressing his gratitude.

"Dr. Gu, don't worry. We'll treat you to a welcome-back feast when you get back."

He suddenly remembered something and quickly told Gu Yuebai, "I also have good news for you. Wang Baichuan, along with the tax bureau, has shut down Zhiwei Leather and Fur Co., Ltd., and there really are big problems. His company has been ordered to cease operations for rectification, and all its accounts have been taken over by the tax bureau."
