Cui'er's breathing quickened slightly for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure.

Lin Feng sneered inwardly. There was definitely something wrong. This Cui'er was an inside man.

The chase with the bandits just now was probably a staged performance, designed to allow Cui'er to blend in with them naturally.

Was it a scheme by Black Wind Stronghold? Or a tactic by the White-Clad Guards?

He remained calm and continued his vigil until dawn.

At dawn, everyone got up. Cui'er had already gotten up early to help start the fire and cook, she was very diligent.

She cooked porridge, heated up some flatbread, and took out a small paper packet from her bosom containing some pickled vegetables.

"These are homemade pickled vegetables, please try them, my benefactor." She pushed the pickled vegetables in front of Lin Feng, her eyes full of expectation.

Lin Feng picked up a piece with his chopsticks, tasted it, and nodded: "Not bad. Miss Cui'er's cooking is excellent."

Cui'er smiled shyly, "I'm glad you like it, my benefactor."

After finishing their meal, they packed their luggage. Lin Feng said to Lao Zhao, "We won't take the mountain path today; we'll take the main road to Luoyan Town instead."

"Huh? But that would mean an extra day of travel..." Old Zhao asked, puzzled.

"It's alright, safety comes first."

Lin Feng looked at Cui'er, "Miss Cui'er, we are heading north. The journey is long and fraught with danger. If you come along, I'm afraid..."

"I'm not afraid!" Cui'er immediately replied. "My benefactor saved me, so I belong to him now. Wherever he goes, I will go!"

"Alright." Lin Feng nodded. "Get in the car."

The carriage resumed its journey, this time turning back and heading onto the official road leading to Luoyan Town.

Cui'er sat in the carriage with Su Wanyue and Bai Xiaohe. The three of them talked in hushed tones. Su Wanyue asked about trivial matters in the mountain village, and Cui'er answered fluently. Occasionally, she would wipe away her tears and complain.

After traveling for half a day, a forest appeared ahead. The official road passed through the forest, where the trees were dense and the light was dim.

"Master Lin, this forest is a bit eerie, should we go around it?" Old Zhao asked.

"No need, let's move on," Lin Feng said, placing his hand on the hilt of his sword.

The carriage entered the forest. The forest was eerily silent; not even a bird could be heard. The only sound was the rustling of the wheels over fallen leaves.

As we walked deeper into the forest, several fallen tree trunks suddenly appeared ahead, blocking our path.

"Whoa—" Old Zhao reined in his horse.

Almost simultaneously, more than twenty people sprang out from the woods on both sides! Each of them was armed with knives and guns, and had a fierce look on their faces. They were the bandits of Black Wind Stronghold! The leader was a one-eyed man with a hideous scar on his face, and he was carrying a large, ghost-headed knife.

"This mountain is mine, these trees are mine! If you want to pass, leave your toll!"

The one-eyed man grinned maliciously, his gaze sweeping across the carriage. "I heard there are a few young women in there? They can stay and keep us company!"

The bandits laughed and surrounded them.

Old Zhao turned pale with fright. Su Wanyue gripped Bai Xiaohe's hand tightly.

Cui'er was also so frightened that she shrank into a ball, but her eyes secretly glanced at Lin Feng.

Lin Feng got out of the car, his gaze sweeping over the bandits before finally settling on the one-eyed man: "Are you from Black Wind Stronghold?"

"That's right! I, your grandpa, am the third leader of Black Wind Stronghold, 'One-Eyed Dragon' Zhao Kui!"

The one-eyed man pointed his knife at Lin Feng, "Kid, you're the one who killed two of my brothers yesterday? Today, I'll use your head as a sacrifice for my flag!"

"You guys?" Lin Feng laughed, a cold laugh.

"You're asking for death!" Zhao Kui roared, brandishing his blade. "Go! Kill him!"

The bandits swarmed forward.

Lin Feng drew his sword and charged forward. The blade flashed, and blood splattered.

Although these bandits were fierce, they were far inferior to the White-Clad Guards. In just a short while, seven or eight of them fell to the ground.

Upon seeing this, Zhao Kui personally drew his knife and charged forward.

He was able to hold the third position in Black Wind Stronghold, which meant he was indeed skilled in martial arts. He wielded the Ghost Head Saber with great force and power.

But Lin Feng's blade was faster and more ruthless. In just ten moves, Zhao Kui was already in grave danger.

"This is a tough one! Let's take it on together!" Zhao Kui shouted sternly.

The remaining bandits surrounded him again. Lin Feng fought against them all without flinching. His blade flashed like lightning as he weaved through the crowd, each strike bringing forth a spray of blood.

Inside the carriage, Cui'er watched the fighting outside, a hint of anxiety flashing in her eyes.

She quietly took out a small bamboo tube from her bosom, and was about to do something when suddenly a hand pressed down on her wrist.

It was Bai Xiaohe. She had somehow gotten close to Cui'er, looking at her coldly: "Miss Cui'er, what do you want to do?"

Cui'er's expression changed, and she forced a smile, saying, "I...I'm scared..."

"Afraid?" Bai Xiaohe sneered, tightening her grip. Cui'er winced in pain, and the bamboo tube slipped from her hand.

Bai Xiaohe picked up the bamboo tube, examined it, and her face darkened. "A hidden arrow? Or a signal?"

"I...I used it for self-defense..." Cui'er explained.

"Self-defense?" Bai Xiaohe stared into her eyes. "Miss Cui'er, it's time for your act to end."

Outside, Lin Feng had dealt with most of the bandits, leaving only Zhao Kui and three trusted men struggling to hold on. Zhao Kui was covered in wounds and panting heavily.

"Retreat! Retreat quickly!" He knew he couldn't win, and the thought of retreating arose in his mind.

But Lin Feng wasn't about to let them go. With a flash of his blade, two more men fell to the ground.

Zhao Kui desperately forced Lin Feng back with a single slash, then turned to flee, but Lin Feng threw the knife in his hand in return!

"puff!"

The long sword pierced through his chest! Zhao Kui stared wide-eyed at the tip of the sword protruding from his chest, made a "hoarse" sound in his throat, collapsed to the ground, and died.

The last bandit was terrified and dropped his knife to run away. Lin Feng picked up a knife from the ground, swung it, and it struck him squarely in the back.

The battle was over. More than twenty corpses lay scattered across the forest, the air thick with the stench of blood.

Lin Feng walked back to the carriage and saw Bai Xiaohe restraining Cui'er and the bamboo tube in her hand. He nodded.

"Brother Lin, she's a spy," Bai Xiaohe said.

Cui'er's face turned deathly pale, but she gritted her teeth and denied it: "I didn't! This...this really is for self-defense! My benefactor, please believe me!"

Lin Feng ignored her, walked to Zhao Kui's body, searched him, and found a wooden plaque with a black scorpion pattern carved on it.

Black Scorpion. It really is Black Wind Stronghold.

He then found a slip of paper in Zhao Kui's sleeve. Unfolding it, he read: "The target is on his way. Proceed according to plan. Cui'er is the inside man. Move upon signal."

He walked back to the carriage and threw the note in front of Cui'er.

When Cui'er saw the note, her face turned ashen, and she collapsed to the ground.

"Speak, who sent you?" Lin Feng said coldly.

Cui'er gritted her teeth, a resolute glint flashing in her eyes. She suddenly lowered her head and bit her collar!
