Chapter 318 Danger in the Snow Valley
They were patrolling and guarding the camp under the banner of the Black Wolf tribe. A bonfire was burning brightly, with roasted lamb on it, and the aroma of the meat wafted in the wind.
It's Burte's pursuers! They've actually circled around to the front and blocked the entrance to the valley! Judging from the size and level of security of this camp, this is definitely not a small search party, but an elite force specifically set up to intercept them!
The only way out has been blocked.
Urna's heart sank into an icy abyss. She looked at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng's face was expressionless, only cold lines covered by wind, snow, and bloodstains. He stared at the camp, his gaze sharp as a knife, as if assessing the distance, the number of people, and the weaknesses in the defenses.
After a long silence, he spoke slowly, his voice low, yet carrying an almost cruel calm:
"If we can't get around it, we'll fight our way through."
"Charge them?" Urna's pupils shrank, almost thinking she had misheard.
The enemy consisted of hundreds of well-equipped and rested elite Black Wolf warriors, while on their side, the princess was weak and critically ill, and the old nanny and little Zhuoma were a burden. This was not "going to kill" but clearly going to their deaths!
"We are too few in number, and the princess can't hold on any longer."
Urna lowered her voice, her tone urgent, "And even if we break through, there are pursuers behind us, and ahead is the direction of the Suhe tribe, where Berte has definitely also deployed men. This is a dead end."
Lin Feng didn't turn around, but kept staring intently at the layout of the camp at the valley entrance, his gaze sweeping back and forth between the sentry posts on the edge of the camp, the gaps in the patrol teams, and the places where the horses were tethered.
His voice was low and calm, with an almost cruel precision:
"Don't charge straight in. See those two small tents near the cliff to the left rear of the camp? There are figures moving around at the tent entrances. They're probably temporarily holding prisoners or storing important supplies. The patrol passes by there every half an incense stick's time, with about thirty breaths between them. Agula, Bagen, you two go around down the right slope and sneak to the camp fence. Use your bows and arrows to shoot the sentries by the campfire at the camp entrance. Create chaos, the bigger the commotion, the better. After you've shot them, immediately run northeast into the snow forest to draw away some of the pursuers."
Agula and Bagen nodded emphatically. They were the best hunters in the Suhe tribe, skilled in both archery and horsemanship.
"Ulna," Lin Feng turned his head. "You and I will sneak down the left cliff amidst the chaos. Our target is those two small tents. If they are prisoners, rescue them; if they are supplies, set them on fire. Regardless of whether we succeed or not, take my whistle as your signal and immediately retreat behind that icefall in the southeast. There is a crevice there where we can hide temporarily."
"What about the princess and the others..." Urna looked down the snow slope behind her. The princess was curled up in the old nanny's arms, and little Zhuoma was shielding them from the wind with her body. The three of them were almost frozen.
"Old Ghost should be nearby," Lin Feng said, surprising everyone.
"Old ghost?" Urna was taken aback.
"I instructed him to take men and set up ambushes at several possible rendezvous points northwest of Suhe's territory. This route is the most dangerous in the plan, but it's also the only one that might avoid the main road blockade. Judging by the time, they should have arrived by now."
Lin Feng looked towards the shadowy valley beyond the camp, blurred by the wind and snow, as if searching for some signal. "If Agula and his men successfully draw away some of the pursuers, the camp will be in chaos. Old Ghost's men will see this and try to rescue the princess. Now, we need to create opportunities for them and create enough chaos."
"I see!" Urna felt a wave of relief, followed by a renewed tension. But it was still extremely dangerous; failure, or if Old Ghost's men failed to arrive in time…
"There's no time to hesitate." Lin Feng looked at her, his gaze deep. "Do you trust me?"
These three short words carry immense weight.
Without any hesitation, Urna nodded emphatically: "I believe you."
"Okay." Lin Feng said no more and gestured to Agula and Bagen.
The two understood each other, tightened their fur coats and bows and arrows, and like two snow foxes, silently slid along the snow slope to the right.
Lin Feng, with Urna in tow, crouched low and, using the rocks and snow as cover, made his way to the edge of the steep cliff on the left.
They finally reached the bottom of the cliff, only twenty-odd steps away from the two small tents, separated by a row of wooden racks piled with miscellaneous items and several tethered warhorses.
They lay hidden behind a snowdrift, sheltered from the wind, and could clearly hear suppressed sobs and the sounds of whipping and shouting coming from inside the tents. It was indeed a place where prisoners were held! Judging from the sounds, there were quite a few.
Lin Feng winked at Ulna and pointed to a half-open gap on the side of the tent, blown open by the wind and snow. Ulna understood, and the two of them moved swiftly closer, like ghosts, using the shadows of the wooden frame and the tent.
Just then!
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
A piercing shriek suddenly rang out from the right side of the camp, near the valley entrance!
Three rockets, like shooting stars, trailing bright flames, accurately struck several Black Wolf Guards drinking and laughing beside the largest campfire at the camp entrance! The rockets pierced their flesh, instantly igniting their fur coats! A piercing scream suddenly tore through the night sky!
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
"Right slope! Fire arrows!"
"Protect the horses! Form a battle formation!"
The entire camp erupted in chaos! Exclamations, roars, the sound of weapons being drawn, and horns blaring mingled together!
Most of the Black Wolf Guards were drawn to the sudden attack, grabbed their weapons, and rushed to the right side of the camp, blindly firing arrows up the hillside.
Agula and Bagen made their move! And they timed it perfectly!
Chaos arrived as expected!
"Now!" Lin Feng shouted, leaping out from behind the snowdrift like a tiger released from its cage, heading straight for the nearest small tent! Urna followed closely behind, her scimitar already drawn.
Two guards at the tent entrance were looking to the right in disbelief at the chaos, completely unaware that death would pounce from the shadows behind them!
Lin Feng's dagger flashed like a viper's tongue, instantly slicing open one man's throat while simultaneously kicking another away, sending him crashing into half of the tent! Urna finished off the struggling guard with a final blow.
The two rushed into the tent. The tent was dimly lit and filled with the stench of blood.
