Chapter 366 The Birth of the Treasure Sword
This detour took a full half-day. The mountain path was rugged, and the soldiers were so exhausted they were foaming at the mouth. It wasn't until dusk that Lin Feng led his men to the front of Sikong Family Fortress.
However, the sight before him made his heart sink.
Sikongjia Fortress is not a traditional residence, but a giant foundry built against the mountainside. Towering chimneys belch smoke from one side of the fortress, while conveyor belts and pulley systems crisscross in mid-air, transporting ore to the mountaintop. The fortress walls are not made of brick or stone, but thick, cast iron! Atop the walls, not only are there archers, but also several strangely shaped, giant machines, gleaming with a cold light.
On the towering stockade wall, a large black flag embroidered with the words "Sikong" fluttered in the wind.
"This is no home, it's a fortress of iron!" Xu Tiande gasped.
"It is precisely because it is Iron City that it is worthy of hiding fragments." Lin Feng drew his sword.
"Lin Feng!" A booming voice rang out from the stockade wall. Sikong Xuan, the head of the Sikong family, dressed in a dark, close-fitting outfit, stood atop the high platform, his voice like thunder, "You led your troops to invade my stronghold, what are your intentions?!"
Lin Feng spurred his horse forward and shouted sternly, "Sikong Xuan! You have illegally altered the government-run mine, and three officials have gone missing. The evidence is now irrefutable! I am acting on imperial orders to arrest them. Hand over the fourth fragment immediately, and I can guarantee the lives of your entire family!"
Upon hearing this, Sikong Xuan laughed loudly, "A fragment? My Sikong family has been smelting iron for generations; that's just a rare piece of stubborn iron! You want it? Sure! Come and take it if you dare!"
Before the words were even finished, logs and rocks began to cascade down the mountain!
"Form ranks! Shieldbearers in front!" Lin Feng shouted.
The siege lasted all night.
The Sikong family's defenses were incredibly strong. They not only had well-trained private soldiers, but were also equipped with all sorts of unusual weapons—fire-breathing pipes, crossbows that could launch caltrops, and even a "Thunderbolt" that could produce a deafening roar that could shatter eardrums.
Lin Feng's infantry suffered heavy casualties at the Iron Wall, and it wasn't until dawn that they finally reached the top of the stockade and stormed into the stockade.
Lin Feng fought his way through the enemy lines, storming into the heart of the Sikong family's core workshop—the Forging God Hall.
Inside the Temple of Forging Gods, there were no statues of gods, only rows of enormous furnaces and forging hammers. Sikong Xuan had already retreated here, panting heavily, surrounded by dozens of loyal retainers.
"Lin Feng! How dare you ruin my century-old foundation!" Sikong Xuan's eyes were bloodshot.
"You're the one who started this trouble!" Lin Feng slashed down a family retainer with a single blow, pressing forward relentlessly.
"I have one condition," Sikong Xuan said, "otherwise we will fight to the last man and destroy the fragments."
"What do you want?" Lin Feng asked in a deep voice.
"It's very simple," Sikong Xuan said with a smile. "You withdraw your troops, and I'll give you the fragments. But you must come and collect them in person, and you can only bring one person with you."
This is both an open conspiracy and a trap.
Xu Tiande exclaimed urgently, "Brother, no! This is a trap!"
Lin Feng stared into Sikong Xuan's eyes. What he saw in those eyes wasn't killing intent, but an almost fanatical obsession. This man loved iron more than life itself; perhaps he didn't want to kill him, but simply wanted to…show off?
"Alright." Lin Feng dismounted.
He was accompanied only by his personal guards as he walked step by step toward the Temple of Gods Forging.
Sikong Xuan smiled with satisfaction. He pushed open the palace door and said, "Commander Lin, please come in. Let me show you what true 'forging' really is."
Inside the Temple of God Forging, only one complex mechanical device was slowly operating. At the center of the device, a fragment of outer space emitting a faint blue light was being held by countless tiny mechanical arms, undergoing some kind of microscopic polishing.
"See that?" Sikong Xuan stroked the machine, his eyes filled with fascination. "The imperial court only knows how to smelt iron, but only I know that there is such a thing as 'divine iron' in this world. I'm collecting these fragments not to forge swords, but to prove that human effort can overcome nature!"
Lin Feng looked at the fragment, which was only one step away.
"Give me the fragments." Lin Feng held out his hand.
"What's the rush?" Sikong Xuan suddenly pressed a button.
"Snap!"
The floor beneath Lin Feng's feet instantly flipped open, revealing a bottomless furnace! Fiery red light surged forth, threatening to engulf him!
"Lin Feng, you're too naive!" Sikong Xuan laughed. "As long as you die here, the remaining three fragments will be mine sooner or later!"
At the critical moment of life and death, Lin Feng smiled. He had already taken precautions.
The moment the floorboards flipped open, he lightly touched the machine with his toes, used the momentum to somersault backward, landed in front of the machine, and then quickly exited through the palace gates.
Sikong Xuan removed the fragment from the machine and put it in a brocade box.
Sikong Xuan was a craftsman who often participated in blacksmithing. He possessed astonishing strength, and wielding a thirty-pound hammer, he charged out of the palace gate towards Lin Feng, seemingly determined to fight to the death.
Lin Feng sneered, "As you wish!"
The two clashed instantly. But who was Lin Feng? He was a fiend who had crawled out of mountains of corpses and seas of blood.
In just three rounds, Lin Feng spotted an opening, slapped the heavy hammer away with his sword, and with his other hand, he reached out like lightning and snatched the brocade box!
"Give it to me!"
The brocade box was heavy in his hand. Without hesitation, Lin Feng kicked Sikong Xuan several feet away, sending him crashing into the forging hammer mechanism behind him.
"No—!" Sikong Xuan roared in despair.
Lin Feng didn't even glance at him, and swiftly opened the brocade box.
Inside the box, lined with purple silk, was a fragment of extraterrestrial light embedded in the very center, emanating a chilling, eerie glow. The fragment was entirely black, with edges as sharp as knives, and exuded a menacing aura.
The fourth one is here!
"Hahaha!" Lin Feng laughed loudly, his voice shaking the roof tiles. "Sikong Xuan, thank you!"
He mounted his horse, clutching the last fragment in his arms, feeling his blood boil.
All four pieces are now complete.
The modified furnace can finally be lit!
Yanshan Mine.
The night was as dark as ink, except for the area where Furnace No. 7 (Type C) was located, which was brightly lit and bustling with people. This area had been completely surrounded by Lin Feng's personal guards.
Lin Feng dismounted, the brocade box in his arms feeling cold against his clothes. The four fragments were finally complete.
"Lord Garrison Commander!" Mo Yan was already waiting in front of the furnace, his eyes sunken, clearly having been working non-stop for the past few days. Behind him were a dozen or so selected craftsmen who kept their mouths shut.
"How's the stove?" Lin Feng got straight to the point.
"Reporting to Your Excellency, as per your orders, all critical components have been inspected and repaired." Mo Yan pointed to the furnace body. "Now, everything is ready, except for the 'mother metal'."
Lin Feng took a deep breath and walked onto the platform.
"Let's begin," Lin Feng said.
Mo Yan nodded solemnly and led Lin Feng back into the passage leading to the underground core. This time, there were no pursuers, no fighting, only the low hum of the machines.
Upon arriving at the hemispherical core control room, Lin Feng took out the four fragments from his pocket.
"Please place the fragment into the furnace core slot, sir." Mo Yan's voice trembled slightly; this was the ultimate test of his life's work.
Lin Feng stepped forward and inserted the four fragments one by one into the complex metal groove.
"High-temperature injection!" Mo Yan shouted, forcefully flipping the main switch.
"boom--!"
High temperatures are injected into the furnace.
"Temperature is normal!"
"Report! The furnace core temperature is about to exceed the critical point!" Mo Yan suddenly shouted. "Sir, we need to decide now—should we forge the substance produced in this furnace into a knife?"
Without hesitation, Lin Feng said, word by word: "Knife."
He wanted a knife. A knife that could protect the peace of this Iron Wall City, a knife that could cut through all injustice in the world.
"Initiate grouting!" Mo Yan abruptly pulled down the last control lever.
"Buzz—!"
A blinding beam of light slowly flowed into the mold. Within that light, the outline of a long sword could be vaguely seen slowly taking shape.
Then the longsword was placed in the ice chamber for quenching.
As the light faded, Mo Yan, with trembling hands, opened the hatch.
A blast of cold air swept in, instantly lowering the temperature in the entire control room. In the afterglow of that brilliant energy, a long sword lay silently.
Lin Feng stepped forward and reached out to grasp the hilt of the knife.
The blade is narrow and straight, with a deep dark blue color throughout. The edge of the blade swirls with light, as if sealing the entire starry sky within it.
"What a fine knife!" Lin Feng exclaimed sincerely.
Mo Yan stared intently, his eyes filled with a mixture of fervor and despair: "With this sword, all weapons in the world can be rendered useless. Lord Garrison Commander, what is the name of this sword?"
