Nominal: Who isn't a son-in-law?

Chapter 52 To see who the truly remarkable figures are, look to the present!

'Pa pa pa'

Chu Shijun walked onto the stage, approached the podium, and picked up the microphone.

The applause from the audience remained enthusiastic, especially from the senior and junior students, whose hands were red from clapping, louder than ever before.

Seeing this, Chu Shijun could only reach out and press it down.

"Haha, Comrade Tiankuo, Shijun is very popular with the students." An old man next to Jiang Tiankuo said with a smile.

"Mr. Huang, this is all thanks to Shijun for doing a great job. He has lived up to expectations," Jiang Tiankuo said quickly.

At this moment, the applause stopped, and Chu Shijun spoke:

"Respected leaders, distinguished guests, dear teachers, alumni, and the new students of the Class of 1988 who have just entered the campus:"

good morning, everyone!

In this crisp autumn air, with the sweet fragrance of osmanthus blossoms, we gather on the beautiful campus of Handong University to witness this glorious moment of our centennial celebration and to warmly welcome our new students. I am Chu Shijun, President of the Student Union, and it is a great honor to stand here and, on behalf of all students, extend our sincerest blessings to the university on its centennial anniversary.

For a century, we have weathered storms and passed on our legacy. Looking back on the century-long journey of Handong University, it is a history of struggle that breathes with the nation and shares its destiny. From the arduous initial establishment to the vigorous development and enterprising spirit after the reform and opening up, generation after generation of Handong University members have upheld the original aspiration of "honesty, simplicity, ambition, diligence, and practice," cultivating the fertile ground of teaching and research, and standing at the forefront of the tide of serving society.

New students, you are fortunate to be here during the school's centennial celebration, becoming witnesses and contributors to this glorious history. This is both an honor and a responsibility...

As the president of the student union, I would like to promise everyone that the student union will always uphold the principles of "serving students, connecting with the school, and supporting growth," focusing on the needs of students and building bridges of communication...

This is my fourth year at Hanzhong University of Science and Technology. I can say that since coming here, I have only done two things: first, to study and seek truth; second, to serve my fellow students after being elected president of the Hanzhong University of Science and Technology Student Union.

Here, I would also like to offer a few expectations to the new students: First, uphold your original aspirations and carry on the school's spirit. I hope you will gain a deep understanding of the school's century-long history, remember the spirit of the school motto, integrate your personal dreams into the great tide of the school's development and national construction, and forge ahead like the older generation of Handa alumni…

I'd like to share a poem with you all: "This land is so beautiful, attracting countless heroes to bow down. Alas, Qin Shi Huang and Han Wudi, lacked literary talent; Tang Taizong and Song Taizu, somewhat inferior in poetic flair. Genghis Khan, the proud son of heaven, only knew how to bend his bow and shoot eagles. All have passed; to find truly remarkable figures, look to the present!"

The centennial celebration is a milestone, but more importantly, it's a new starting point. Standing at this new historical juncture, the future of Handong University needs to be written by us together. my country's reform and opening up has been a magnificent and sweeping undertaking; as students, we should…

Finally, I wish all leaders, teachers, and alumni good health and all the best! I wish the new students academic success and a bright future! May our beloved Handong University continue its century-long glory and write new chapters in the future!

That concludes my remarks. Thank you everyone!

After bowing to the podium and the people below, Chu Shijun steadily stepped down.

'Pa pa pa'

Below the podium, Gao Yuliang pondered Chu Shijun's words, "Our reform and opening up is magnificent," and the more he listened, the more he felt that it made sense.

Amidst the crowd, Hou Liangping, who was clapping along with everyone else, looked at the podium with shining eyes. "A true man should be like this! He can be replaced!"

Zhong Xiaoai clapped her hands enthusiastically, thinking to herself, "No wonder Grandpa told me to get along well with Senior Chu..."

……

After the meeting, Chu Shijun did not go back with the others, but went to see the principal and others with Gao Yuliang and Pei Qianqian.

At this moment, Jiang Tiankuo and others were accompanying some alumni to the school's teachers' canteen.

Seeing the group approaching, Jiang Tiankuo quickly waved, "Director Yuliang, over here!"

"Principal, former leader..."

"Haha, Mr. Huang, Mr. Lü, this is Director Gao Yuliang of our school's Department of Political Science and Law. Shi Jun is his outstanding student, and this is Pei Qianqian," Jiang Tiankuo introduced enthusiastically.

Standing with Jiang Tiankuo were Huang Wenjing and a square-faced middle-aged man, Lü Qingshan, the vice president, who was a graduate of Han University. The others were accompanied by the vice presidents and other school leaders.

"Hello, Mr. Huang, hello, Mr. Lü."

Gao Yuliang shook hands with each of them, and then it was Chu Shijun's turn.

"Haha, a great teacher produces outstanding students, and heroes emerge from among the young. I've been reading your books, Shi Jun, and today I'm finally meeting you in person. Not bad, not bad." Huang Wenjing looked Chu Shi Jun up and down and nodded to himself.

"Shijun, I'm practically your senior now. Seeing someone as outstanding as you among the younger students proves that the school's educational work is excellent. I also know Qianqian. And Yihong, that roughneck, has given birth to a beautiful daughter," Lu Qingshan said with a smile.

"Shijun, President Lü was also the president of the student union back then, and some of the rules and regulations of the union were set by him."

"Mr. Huang, Mr. Lü, I am honored to study at Han University. I am also very grateful to you two and all the seniors of Han University for the spirit that you have left behind, which inspires generations of Han University students to study hard and carry forward our spirit. I will also bring this spirit to my work and put it into practice, to contribute to the development of our country and to serve the people well," Chu Shijun said respectfully.

"Is this a pledge? Then I'll accept it," President Lü nodded and said in a deep voice, "I hope that ten or twenty years from now, you won't forget what I said today."

"It won't change in a hundred years!"

"A hundred years? Then we'd be old monsters, haha. How well we've done our job, the people will have something to say." Huang Wenjing said with a smile, "You and Qianqian are about the same age as my grandson, and I know Director Qi too, so you can call me grandpa, and the same goes for President Lü."

Lü Qingshan nodded.

"Hello, Grandpa Huang. Hello, Grandpa Lü."

Chu Shijun pulled Pei Qianqian along and bowed slightly together.

"Hello to you two, when are you planning to get married, you two golden couple?" Huang Wenjing asked kindly.

Pei Qianqian blushed slightly, while Chu Shijun said generously, "I've talked to Uncle Pei, and we plan to get married in a couple of years when our jobs are more stable."

"Sure, I'll get married and have kids once I have a stable job. I'll take it one step at a time. When the time comes, this old man will definitely go and have a taste of the wedding feast, haha."

Huang Wenjing nodded.

Beside him, Gao Yuliang stood like a lackey, his hands hanging naturally in front of him, a smile always on his face.

He's only here because of this student; look around, apart from the service staff, there's no one of lower rank than him.

He'll teach for another two years, and once Secretary Liang appoints him, he'll venture into the vast political arena. He doesn't boast about anything else, but at least he wants to leave his mark on the history of Handong.
