If I made you a special forces soldier, would you become a terrestrial god?
Chapter 14 The Divine Beast Reports, Shaking the Military
On the training field, sandstorms swirled and fell, bringing with them the smell of scorched earth and gunpowder.
The enormous crater, over ten meters in diameter with its glassy edges, resembled a gaping maw of an abyss gazing at the sky, silently recounting the devastating attack that had just occurred.
Gao Dazhuang subconsciously reached into his pocket for a cigarette, but after fumbling around for a while, he realized that the cigarette pack had fallen to the ground sometime earlier. He glanced down at it, then at the huge crater, and finally at the nonchalant Su Chen, before giving up on the idea of bending down to pick it up.
He Zhijun's Adam's apple bobbed violently. He felt that even though he was a seasoned reconnaissance battalion chief of staff who had seen many storms, the impact he had experienced in his decades of military career was nothing compared to what he was going through now.
enough?
That's more than enough! If that palm strike landed on the enemy's command post, it would probably blow up the underground bunker too! If it hit an aircraft carrier, it would probably pierce right through it!
"Enough...enough..." He Zhijun's voice was dry, as if it had been sanded. The way he looked at Su Chen had completely changed. It was no longer the look of a superior looking at a subordinate, nor an elder looking at a junior, but a look...like looking at a national totem, full of awe and fanaticism.
He whirled around and roared at the communications officer behind him, "Connect me to the military region headquarters! Top-secret encryption! Now! Immediately!"
The communications soldier jumped in surprise and scrambled toward the command room.
He Zhijun then looked at Gao Dazhuang, Chief of Staff Fang, and the others, his voice brooking no argument: "Everyone, seal off the training ground! Everything you saw and heard today, keep it all to yourselves! Anyone who dares to divulge a single word will be court-martialed!"
"Yes!" Gao Dazhuang and the others responded in unison, their voices trembling slightly.
He Zhijun strode towards Su Chen, his expression shifting several times before settling into a wry smile with a hint of ingratiation: "Captain Su, I apologize for asking you to rest at the command post for a while. This matter... is extremely serious; I must report it to Commander Gao personally immediately."
Su Chen nodded; he understood the reaction. The move he had made had far exceeded the scope of conventional warfare, rising to the level of strategic deterrence.
In the command center, the encrypted phone call was quickly connected. He Zhijun picked up the receiver, took a deep breath, and tried to keep his voice steady.
"Reporting to Commander Gao! This is He Zhijun!"
A strong, authoritative voice came from the other end of the phone: "Old He? How's the situation on your end? Have you brought Chief of Staff Fang and the others back?"
"Reporting to the commander, they've brought him back! Not only have they brought him back, but they've also brought back one...one..." He Zhijun stammered, realizing he couldn't find any words to accurately describe Su Chen.
"What? Stuttering like that, what kind of behavior is that!" Commander Fan's voice was somewhat dissatisfied.
"Report to the commander! A god!" He Zhijun finally roared out these two words.
Silence fell on the other end of the phone for a few seconds, then Commander Gao's voice, laced with suppressed anger, came through: "He Zhijun! Have you lost your mind on the battlefield? What nonsense are you spouting! What kind of supernatural things are you talking about!"
"Commander, I'm not making this up!" He Zhijun cried out anxiously, describing in rapid succession what he had just witnessed, "...Comrade Su Chen, the captain I reported on earlier! He was right there on my training ground, a hundred meters away, when he struck out with his palm, and a golden dragon, tens of meters long, appeared out of thin air, blasting our heavy weapons testing target... no, it blasted the target and the surrounding ground into a crater over ten meters in diameter and bottomless! Commander, even armor-piercing rounds could only leave a white dot on that target! Now, it's turned to dust!"
"..." On the other end of the phone, there was another deathly silence. This time, He Zhijun could even hear Commander Gao's suddenly heavy breathing.
A full half minute passed before Commander Gao's voice rang out again, each word seemingly squeezed out between clenched teeth: "He Zhijun, I'll ask you one more time, are you sure you're not hallucinating? Are you sure every word you say is true?"
"I swear on my own head, on the lives of everyone in my Wolf Fang unit! It's absolutely true!" He Zhijun said resolutely.
"Give the phone to Chief of Staff Fang!"
Chief of Staff Fang took the phone and recounted in detail, without reservation, their entire process of being ambushed, rescued by Su Chen who slaughtered a reinforced company from the front, the subsequent rescue of the Ninth Company, and their rendezvous with Kang Lei's troops, wiping out an entire reinforced enemy battalion. His narration was calmer than He Zhijun's, but the amount of information it contained was far more terrifying.
When Chief of Staff Fang hung up the phone and handed the receiver back to He Zhijun, the atmosphere in the command room had become extremely tense.
Commander Gao on the other end of the phone remained silent for a longer time.
After a long silence, his voice finally broke the stillness, carrying an unprecedented sense of awe and excitement: "Pass on my orders!"
He Zhijun straightened up abruptly: "Yes!"
"First! Immediately raise Comrade Su Chen's security clearance to the highest level! SS level! All related materials are to be sealed! No one is allowed to access them except for you, me, and a few core members of the Military Region Standing Committee!"
"Second! From this moment forward, Wolf Fang Base is on Level One alert! Your mission is no longer to fight on the front lines, but to ensure Comrade Su Chen's absolute safety at all costs! A single hair on his head is more important than your or my life! Do you understand?!"
* "clear!"
"Third!" Commander Gao's voice paused, a tremor he himself didn't even notice, "Tell Comrade Su Chen that after the war, I...I want to personally go to the Wolf Fang Base to see him! I will personally award him the medal! The Dragon Nation has produced such a pillar of strength; it is a blessing for our army and a great blessing for the nation!"
The pillar that stabilizes the sea!
This assessment caused everyone in the command center who heard it to feel a sharp pang in their hearts.
"Furthermore..." Commander Gao added, "The soldiers he brought back—the Ninth Company and his own platoon—will all be temporarily incorporated into your Wolf Fang unit, under the unified command of Comrade Su Chen. Consider them his personal guard. Give them the best treatment and the best equipment! Everything is for his comfort!"
"Yes! Mission accomplished!" He Zhijun roared, veins bulging on his neck.
The communication was cut off. He Zhijun put down the phone, let out a long breath, and felt that his back was soaked with cold sweat.
He turned to look at Su Chen, who was sitting calmly in the corner drinking tea, and forced a smile that looked more like a grimace.
"Captain Su... Captain Su, you heard the commander's orders, didn't you?"
Su Chen put down his teacup and nodded: "I heard you. Thank you for your hard work, Captain He."
This calm and composed attitude made He Zhijun even more convinced that this man was definitely not an ordinary person.
He strode over and personally refilled Su Chen's teacup, his posture extremely humble: "It's no trouble at all! It's what we should do! If you have any requests, just say so! If you need anything, just tell me, and I'll dismantle the entire Wolf Fang base for you!"
Standing to the side, Gao Dazhuang, Chief of Staff Fang, and the others, seeing their leader's fawning manner, all kept their eyes down, pretending not to see anything.
Just kidding, who would dare to object to a humanoid divine beast that can unleash a golden dragon dozens of meters long with a single palm strike?
Let alone Captain He, even they themselves now look at Su Chen as if he were a living ancestor.
Lei Keming, the arts and culture soldier who had been so loud and boisterous earlier, saying that Su Chen had violated Newton's laws, was now hiding outside the door, secretly taking notes in a small notebook and muttering to himself.
"Observation subject: Su Chen. Characteristics: Suspected of possessing supernatural energy, capable of materializing into a dragon-shaped energy body. Preliminary speculation: The principle of his energy release may be related to dark matter, quantum entanglement... No, that's not right, this pure destructive power is more like..."
Before he could finish his reasoning, Gao Dazhuang slapped him on the back of the head.
"What are you writing down! Do you want to be dissected and studied? Have you forgotten the Commander's orders? Go write your self-criticism!"
Lei Keming covered his head and ran away looking aggrieved.
Inside the command post, Su Chen looked at the overly attentive He Zhijun and couldn't help but feel both amused and exasperated.
He knew that from this day forward, his position in the army had undergone a complete transformation.
He was no longer an ordinary soldier, or even an ordinary officer.
He is the ace of the Dragon Kingdom, an irreplaceable strategic weapon.
It is that pillar, powerful enough to stir up the winds and clouds of the world, the pillar that stabilizes the sea!
