Rejecting Tsinghua and Peking Universities: I Will Lead Harbin Institute of Technology to World Lead
Chapter 60 Drug Application and Confidentiality Agreement
"You must be Lin Feng?"
Xiao Xiao looked up, her eyes blurry with tears, at the young man who had suddenly appeared before her. He was younger and more composed than she had imagined. He had short black hair and a sharply defined face, but what was most striking were his eyes—deep, calm, like cold stars in the night, yet carrying a strangely reassuring power.
"That's right, I am Lin Feng." Lin Feng nodded slightly, his gaze shifting to the closed operating room door. "How is Senior Sister doing now?"
His voice wasn't loud, but every word was clear and forceful.
Xiao Xiao's tears welled up again. She wiped her face haphazardly with the back of her hand, took a deep breath, and finally said, "Ranran... has stomach cancer. Late stage."
When she uttered the last two words, her voice was almost completely drained.
Lin Feng raised an eyebrow slightly.
Stomach cancer.
It wasn't the injury he expected, but cancer.
This answer instantly eased his tense nerves. Not because the illness wasn't serious, but because—he could cure it.
The Dawn Project has been proven successful, and Phase I clinical trials have been completed. Although the drug is still under top-secret protection, Professor Qi should still have some samples in reserve.
"I understand." Lin Feng's voice remained calm. "Wait here for me a moment, I'm going to make a phone call."
He didn't explain further and turned to walk towards the corner of the corridor.
Xiao Xiao stared blankly at his retreating figure, not reacting for a moment. Shen Moran's parents also looked up, a hint of doubt flashing in their bloodshot eyes—why make a phone call at a time like this?
Lin Feng walked to a place far enough away from the operating room, making sure no one was around, before taking out the specially made encrypted phone from his pocket.
The casing is dark black with no brand logos, except for a small red indicator light flashing in the upper right corner.
He pressed a series of complex key combinations, the screen lit up, and automatically entered the encrypted communication interface.
After three rings, the call was connected.
"Elder Qi, I am Lin Feng."
"Xiao Feng?" came Old Qi's slightly surprised voice from the other end of the phone. "Why are you calling at this hour? What happened?"
"I need to apply for an anti-cancer drug," Lin Feng said bluntly. "A friend of mine has late-stage stomach cancer and is currently undergoing surgery."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone.
"Location?"
"Surgery in progress at Beijing Hospital."
How urgent is the situation?
"The doctor said... to prepare the family mentally."
Another silence followed. Lin Feng could hear the rustling of papers on the other end of the phone—Old Qi was probably reviewing the clinical trial data.
"Alright." Old Qi's voice rang out again. "I have approved your application. There are currently seven spare samples in stock. I will immediately arrange for someone to send one to the hospital in Beijing."
He paused, his tone becoming serious: "But you must understand, this drug is still under top-secret protection. All related data, effects, and even its very existence must not be leaked."
"I understand." Lin Feng had already come up with a plan. "I will have the security department come over immediately, and all personnel involved must sign the highest level of confidentiality agreement. The injection process will also be carried out in an absolutely controlled environment."
"Okay." Old Qi was efficient and decisive. "I'll contact the director of the Beijing hospital right now and have them prepare to receive the medicine. The delivery person will arrive within an hour, carrying a special pass."
"Thank you, Professor Qi."
"No need to thank me." Old Qi's voice was unusually gentle. "You developed the drug, so you have the right to do so. However... Xiao Feng, although this drug has performed well in clinical trials, individual differences will always exist. You should be prepared for that."
"I see."
The call has ended.
Lin Feng put away his phone and turned back to the operating room door.
"Brother Zhao," Lin Feng lowered his voice, "Contact the security department and have them bring over three copies of the highest-level confidentiality agreement as quickly as possible. Also, arrange for two people to set up a temporary cordon around the hospital, covering the entire floor."
"Yes." Zhao Weiguo didn't waste any words and immediately took out another communication device.
One minute later, the command was issued.
Lin Feng then walked towards Xiao Xiao and Shen Moran's parents.
"Xiaoxiao." He looked at the young woman first, "These two must be your parents, senior?"
Xiao Xiao nodded quickly and introduced, "This is Uncle Shen, and this is Aunt Wang."
The middle-aged couple stood up, their eyes still filled with despair, but they managed a forced, polite nod. Mr. Shen's hand trembled slightly, while Mrs. Shen gripped her husband's arm tightly, as if it were her only support.
"Uncle and Aunt, my name is Lin Feng. I am a junior of Senior Sister Mo Ran, and I am also from Shancheng." Lin Feng bowed slightly, his attitude respectful and sincere.
Upon hearing the words "people of Shancheng," Shen's father's eyes flickered slightly, and his gaze toward Lin Feng became more affectionate, since they were both from Shancheng.
"Child, what you just did..." Shen's father's voice was extremely hoarse.
"I have a way to save my senior," Lin Feng said directly.
After he finished speaking, the corridor fell into dead silence.
Xiao Xiao's eyes widened, Shen's mother's hand clenched tightly, and Shen's father's lips trembled, but he couldn't make a sound.
"What...what did you say?" Xiao Xiao was the first to react, her voice trembling.
"I said I have a way to treat my senior's stomach cancer," Lin Feng repeated firmly, "but there's one condition—everyone who knows about it must sign a confidentiality agreement."
"Sign! We'll sign!" Shen's mother almost lunged forward, but her husband pulled her back in time. Her voice was already trembling with tears. "We'll sign anything to save Ranran! We'll sign!"
Mr. Shen gripped his wife's hand tightly and looked at Lin Feng: "Son, you're not just trying to comfort us, are you? Late-stage stomach cancer... We've consulted experts both domestically and internationally..."
"This isn't just comforting words," Lin Feng interrupted him. "I can't go into the specifics. But I can guarantee that once the agreement is signed, the hospital will act immediately."
"Child, you..." He wanted to ask something, but didn't know where to begin.
"Uncle, please believe me." Lin Feng looked into his eyes. "I wouldn't joke about my senior's life."
Just then, hurried and orderly footsteps came from the end of the corridor.
Three staff members in dark uniforms walked quickly over. The one in the lead was a middle-aged man in his forties with a serious face, carrying a silver metal box in his hand.
Zhao Weiguo went up to him, exchanged a few words in hushed tones, and the other man nodded before walking straight toward Lin Feng.
"Mr. Lin, the agreement has been brought." The middle-aged man opened the metal case and took out three thick documents. "As instructed by my superiors, I am responsible for the signing and supervision of this agreement."
He handed the documents to Shen's father, Shen's mother, and Xiaoxiao respectively.
Each document has more than twenty pages, with the words "Top Secret" printed in bright red and a complex number printed on the cover.
Xiao Xiao turned to the first page, glanced at it, and held her breath.
The "Confidentiality Agreement for Persons with Knowledge of Top-Secret Projects"—below the title are densely packed clauses, ranging from the duration of information blackout to penalties for violations, each one so stringent it's suffocating.
She looked up at Lin Feng.
The young man remained standing there calmly, as if everything happening before his eyes was within his expectations.
"All the terms are standard templates." Lin Feng noticed her hesitation. "I know there are many restrictions, but this is the necessary procedure. If you're willing to save your senior, then sign."
Mr. Shen had already put on his reading glasses and was quickly skimming through the key clauses. His hands were trembling so badly he could barely hold the pen, but he still read on word by word.
"Uncle, Aunt..." Xiaoxiao looked at the two elderly people.
Mr. Shen took a deep breath and took off his glasses.
"sign."
He picked up the pen and signed his name on the last page. Shen's mother followed suit, her hand trembling so much that the writing was almost illegible, but she finally finished.
Xiao Xiao gritted her teeth and signed her name as well.
The three agreements were retrieved and placed in a metal box. The middle-aged man nodded to Lin Feng: "Mr. Lin, the agreement is now in effect. From this moment on, those who have knowledge of the matter will be bound by confidentiality regulations and subject to supervision."
"Understood." Lin Feng looked towards the operating room. "When will the supplies arrive?"
"It's already on its way." Zhao Weiguo glanced at his watch. "It should take about forty minutes."
"Okay." Lin Feng turned to Shen's parents and Xiao Xiao. "Uncle, Aunt, Xiao Xiao, now that the agreement has been signed, let's go to the lounge next door and wait. We'll leave this to Brother Zhao and the others."
"But..." Shen's mother still wanted to stay at the operating room door.
"Auntie," Lin Feng's voice was gentle but firm, "Trust me, and trust your senior. She'll be alright."
Perhaps it was the unwavering certainty in those eyes that was so convincing, or perhaps it was the desperate clinging to any straw that she was unwilling to let go of, but Shen's mother finally nodded.
The group walked towards the lounge on the other side of the corridor.
Lin Feng walked at the back, glancing back at the still-lit red light on the operating room door.
Senior, hang in there a little longer.
The medicine is coming soon.
