The Prodigal Son

At the fourth watch of the night, Qin Yu, who was fast asleep with Nan Que'er in his arms, was suddenly awakened by a series of urgent knocks on the door.

Qin Yu suddenly jolted awake, hastily threw on some clothes, and ran towards the door without even putting on shoes.

Such urgent knocking at this time must mean something serious has happened.

"Thirteenth Master, urgent military intelligence!"

Sure enough, before Qin Yu could rush to the door, Qin Xiong's voice came from outside.

"Squeak..."

The door was quickly pulled open.

Qin Xiong was stunned for a moment when he saw Qin Yu's face shoved close to his.

"Have you received news from Yu Chan's side?"

Qin Yu asked hurriedly.

Qin Xiong snapped out of his daze and nodded, saying, "I just received news from them that Yu Chan's enemy forces are retreating towards Pangzhou overnight, with the Flying Fang Cavalry covering their rear!"

They've withdrawn!

Yan Wujiu was not blinded by anger and chose to leave Yu Chan.

Although they had long anticipated that Yan Wujiu might make this choice, Qin Yu was still a little disappointed when Yan Wujiu actually led his troops to retreat.

What he most hoped for was that Yan Wujiu would be blinded by rage and launch a mindless attack.

That way, they can maximize their advantage.

With Yan Wujiu's retreat, they could finally reunite with Xue Chengdao and the old man's forces, but that was all.

In fact, it did not cause much damage to Yan Wujiu's troops.

Disappointed, Qin Yu then ordered: "Order all generals to come here immediately for a meeting! Send someone to the Linjiang military camp to invite General Xue to come for a meeting as well!"

After saying that, Qin Yu went back into the house and picked up his clothes to put them on.

Ugh!

Yan Wujiu, why the hell don't you act impulsively?

Why don't you just go for it!

Seeing Qin Yu's expression, Nan Que'er, who had overheard his conversation with Qin Xiong, couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. "Look at you, you've gained such a huge advantage, yet you act like you've suffered a great loss."

"I didn't suffer a loss, but I didn't gain much either."

Qin Yu shook his head and chuckled, "We didn't drive Yan Wujiu away by force, we overwhelmed him with food!"

Now, let's see where Yan Wujiu will retreat to!

It would be better if Yan Wujiu led his troops to retreat towards Yanzhou.

If Yan Wujiu leads his troops to retreat to Huzhou, then they will have no choice but to switch from offense to defense.

Hopefully, the old man's side can put in a good job!

Anyway, before writing to Yan Wujiu, he had already ordered his men to cross Dajian Mountain and tell the old man about his plan.

If the old man and his men could quietly occupy Pangzhou and block Yan Wujiu's troops, they would make a huge profit!

After a moment of random thoughts, Qin Yu, with Nan Que'er's help, quickly dressed and gently kissed her lips: "I'm going to the meeting, you rest a little longer!"

"Okay, go ahead!"

Nan Que'er nodded, then reached out and gently rubbed Qin Yu's cheeks. "We've already achieved a tremendous victory by capturing Yu Chan without losing a single soldier. Don't look so miserable, cheer up!"

Those people are never satisfied.

Previously, they were still worried about how to capture the Jade Toad.

Now that they have been able to capture Yu Chan without losing a single soldier, they want to devour Yan Wujiu's troops.

"good!"

Qin Yu smiled, gave Nan Que'er a brief hug, and quickly headed to the council hall.

I'm definitely still happy.

However, Yan Wujiu's choice did not maximize his benefits.

To be precise, this is not disappointment.

It should be a regret.

Before long, all the generals, except for Xue Lie who was at the Linjiang military camp, had arrived.

While waiting for Xue Lie, Qin Yu briefly told everyone about the urgent military intelligence he had just received.

Everyone was somewhat disappointed to learn that Yan Wujiu ultimately did not choose to take a gamble.

"Damn it, Yan Wujiu is supposed to be a famous general of Yan, yet he doesn't have a single temper!"

"That's right, that's right..."

"What the hell are you thinking? It's precisely because he's a renowned general that he hasn't let anger cloud his judgment!"

"That's right! So you're not a great general! If it were you, you'd probably have wasted tens of thousands of troops..."

Disappointed as they were, the result didn't surprise them too much.

Without a doubt, Qin Yu's move must have infuriated Yan Wujiu.

But Yan Wujiu's ability to remain rational in such a state of rage already surpasses that of many others.

"Alright!"

Qin Yu raised his hand to stop everyone, "Now that Yan Wujiu has retreated, we need to prepare to advance towards Yuchan! However, we still need to leave some people to defend Wulin!"

Hearing Qin Yu's words, the generals of the Wudang Flying Army didn't seem to care.

They knew that staying behind wouldn't allow them to stay.

The Wudang Flying Cavalry are their main force!

However, the generals brought by Xue Lie all kept their heads down, afraid that if they made eye contact with Qin Yu, Qin Yu would order them to stay behind and guard the area.

While defending Wulin is a merit, it cannot compare to defeating the enemy.

Now that their situation is so favorable, who wouldn't want to go to the battlefield and earn some merit?

Qin Yu understood the generals' thoughts perfectly well, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Wulin was an important grain storage area for them, and there were also many defeated soldiers from the Yan state in the surrounding area.

With no one defending, our base can be raided at any time.

However, he didn't bother to worry about who would stay behind; he'd leave that to Xue Lie to decide!

After waiting for a short while, Xue Lie hurried over on horseback.

Upon learning that Yan Wujiu had retreated, Xue Lie also showed a look of disappointment.

Qin Yu looked at Xue Lie and said bluntly, "After dawn, we will advance towards Yuchan. Who do you think would be suitable to defend Wulin?"

"Xiang Shen, you're the one!"

Xue Lie did not hesitate and directly named his subordinate generals.

"General Xue..."

Xiang Shen raised his head and looked at Xue Lie with a bitter expression.

"This is a military order; you have no right to bargain!"

Xue Lie didn't give Xiang Shen a chance to argue, and said sternly, "I order you to lead your five thousand men to guard Wulin. If anything happens to Wulin, I will take your head!"

"This subordinate obeys!"

Xiang Shen dared not say anything more and had no choice but to accept the order.

"Okay, then that's settled!"

Qin Yu stood up. "Everyone, get ready. We'll eat at 2:45 AM and advance at 4:45 AM! I'll lead the Wudang Flying Army as the vanguard, and Xue Lie will lead the remaining troops to escort ten days' worth of provisions to Yuchan!"

"yes!"

The generals all rose to receive their orders.

Xue Lie followed Qin Yu out, sighing with regret, "Yan Wujiu is such a letdown..."

"..."

Qin Yu looked at Xue Lie with amusement, "Does he have to give us credit to make us feel good?"

"I'd like to!"

Xue Lie smiled casually, "By the way, Yan Wujiu was thoroughly outmaneuvered by you, he must be resentful! You'd better watch out for Yan Wujiu sending Fei Liao to launch a surprise attack!"

"Yes, I will!"

Qin Yu nodded slightly, "Our two departments will stay in constant contact!"

What Xue Lie said is entirely possible.

He then launched a surprise attack on Yan Wujiu.

It's perfectly normal for Yan Wujiu to want to retaliate with a counterattack!

If Yan Wujiu really wants to come, then let him come!

Although the Wudang Flying Army only has more than 17,000 men, they are not afraid at all if the Flying Fang Cavalry dares to come!

The Flying Fang Cavalry are elite, and so are they!

We all have two shoulders and one head, what's there to be afraid of!
