The Prodigal Son

When the remaining enemy forces on the battlefield were wiped out, the soldiers of the Wudang Flying Army all felt as if they had survived a catastrophe.

"We won!"

It's unclear who shouted first, but soon everyone joined in with a roar.

"We won!"

"We won!"

Soon, a deafening roar of cheers erupted on the battlefield.

Yuan Dingguo's old wounds had not yet healed when he suffered new ones.

But he was completely unaware of the pain in his body, and followed the soldiers of the Wudang Flying Army in raising their arms and shouting.

As he roared, Yuan Dingguo suddenly knelt on the ground with a thud, his eyes filled with tears.

Revenge has been achieved!

They finally avenged their brothers from back then!

Back then, the Wudang Flying Cavalry was almost scattered.

Today, however, they directly annihilated their arch-enemy, the Flying Fang Cavalry.

From this day forward, there will be no more Flying Riders in the world!

In contrast to the excitement of the Ning army, the surrendered Yan soldiers were all dejected.

Seeing the corpses scattered all over the ground, some people couldn't help but burst into tears.

They wept for their fallen comrades, and also for the state of Yan.

Anyone with a bit of foresight knows that with this defeat, they won't be able to hold onto their remaining 30,000 troops.

Including previous losses, the Great Yan has lost 200,000 troops!

In two months, an army of 200,000 was wiped out.

The Yan Kingdom... is finished!

"We won! Qin Yu, we won!"

Nan Que'er was also infected by the cheers of the Ning soldiers and excitedly hugged Qin Yu and cheered.

"Yes, we won!"

Qin Yu let out a long breath and a smile appeared on his face.

Although it was a Pyrrhic victory, they should celebrate!

They defeated the Flying Tiger Cavalry and the famous Yan general Yan Wujiu, completely thwarting Yan Wujiu's plans.

The dead cannot enjoy the joy of victory.

But those who are alive deserve to enjoy this joy and honor!

Just as Qin Yu was filled with emotion, a person covered in blood walked towards them.

At first glance, Qin Yu almost didn't recognize this person.

Upon recognizing Ning Huang, Qin Yu couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine as he looked at him. "Senior Ning, don't you want to go wash up first? You look rather frightening."

"How much better can you be yourself?"

Ning Huang gave a soft snort.

Qin Yu looked down at himself, then gave an awkward smile and asked, "Are you hurt?"

Indeed, I'm not much better than him.

He was covered in blood!

"Minor injury."

Ning Huang didn't care at all, cursing and saying, "That bastard Wei Zhui, he really has the nerve to run away! Yan Wujiu fought to the death, and he still has the nerve to run away! Next time I see him, I'll chop him to pieces!"

"Did Wei escape?"

Qin Yu was surprised.

"They escaped, but they're basically useless now."

Just as Ning Huang was about to speak again, a soldier galloped up on horseback, "General Qin, General Xiong Quhu is critically wounded!"

Upon hearing the soldier's words, Qin Yu's expression changed, and he immediately mounted his horse: "Lead the way! Que'er, come with me!"

Nan Que'er leaped up and quickly mounted her horse.

However, they hadn't run far when another soldier came to report: "Commander Qin, General Pei has been killed in battle..."

Qin Yu's heart skipped a beat, and he tentatively asked, "Pei Xiao?"

"yes!"

The soldier nodded, his voice trembling with tears.

Qin Yu's expression changed slightly. He tried hard to suppress his grief and instructed, "Que'er, go and help save Xiong Quhu. I'll go check on Pei Xiao..."

"good!"

Nan Que'er glanced at him worriedly, then spurred her horse and followed the soldier in front of her away.

"lead the way!"

Qin Yu snorted softly.

Led by that soldier, Qin Yu quickly arrived at the left flank.

At this moment, the battle here has ended, and the soldiers are cleaning up the battlefield.

Pei Xiao's body was moved to the side.

By the time Qin Yu passed by, Pei Xiao was already lifeless.

Qin Yu dismounted and slowly approached Pei Xiao.

Pei Xiao had multiple injuries, and the blood had already congealed.

Unconsciously, the scene of their first meeting appeared in Qin Yu's mind.

Pei Xiao, Xiong Quhu, and Han Chong went from being unconvinced by him to following him through countless battles.

Along the way, they all made outstanding contributions.

Now, Xiong Quhu is critically injured and on the verge of death, while Pei Xiao has died in battle.

A fierce battle ensued, resulting in the loss of two key generals.

This battle was fucking awful!

After a long while, Qin Yu slowly raised his head and asked the soldier beside him, "How did Pei Xiao die?"

The soldier lowered his head and replied, "General Pei encountered an enemy general, and the two engaged in a fierce battle. General Pei, severely wounded, perished along with the enemy general..."

"Okay, go ahead and do your thing!"

Qin Yu waved his hand, slowly sat down beside Pei Xiao's corpse, tore off a piece of cloth from his body, and tremblingly wiped the blood off Pei Xiao's face.

Ning Huang lowered his eyelids and looked at Qin Yu, saying indifferently, "Generals are bound to die on the battlefield! Once you embark on this path, you must be prepared to die on the battlefield at any time, including you and me!"

"I know."

Qin Yu responded blankly, "I just wanted to do something for him."

Everyone understands the reasoning.

But he still couldn't be as indifferent to death as Ning Huang.

Especially when facing a general who had fought alongside him all the way.

If Pei Xiao hadn't died in battle, he would have been at least a third-rank general after this war.

"So many problems!"

Ning Huang approached Qin Yu with a look of disgust, "Instead of wasting time working for the dead, why not work for the living!"

"I……"

Qin Yu was rendered speechless by Ning Huang's retort.

"That's how it is."

Ning Huang remained calm. "If I die on the battlefield one day, you don't need to do anything for me. Just burn me to the ground—that's the cleanest solution!"

"Alright."

Qin Yu nodded slightly, "It just so happens that I've been eyeing your precious sword for a long time. If I burn you, I won't have to take your precious sword with me in the burial."

"Go to hell!"

Ning Huang laughed and scolded in an annoyed tone.

Qin Yu looked up, his face full of helplessness. "See, you were the one who said it. I'm helping you make arrangements for your funeral, and now you're not happy about it."

"Bullshit, I'm not dead yet!"

Ning Huang snorted, "If you want to covet my treasured sword, wait until I'm dead!"

"They're all the same."

Qin Yu raised his cheeks and grinned.

But that smile looked forced no matter how you looked at it.

"Get out! Get out!"

"I need to go heal my wounds, I can't be bothered to waste my breath on you!"

"Damn it, I must have owed you something in my past life!"

"I've been injured three times in the year I've been by your side, and you still have your eye on my precious sword..."

Ning Huang spoke as he walked away into the distance.

Watching Ning Huang depart, Qin Yu continued wiping the blood from Pei Xiao's face, muttering a sigh, "After this battle, the merits of all of you will be enough to earn you marquises!"

"Why the hell couldn't you just hold on a little longer?"

"You fucking died before dawn."

"Now, I can only ask His Majesty to posthumously confer upon you..."

He knew Pei Xiao couldn't hear what he was saying, but he continued talking to himself.

Even generals cannot escape death on the battlefield.

It's a truth that everyone knows.

But seeing Pei Xiao, who had died in battle, still made him feel choked up.

Suddenly, he understood why some people, when visiting graves, would always speak words to a withered grave that the person inside would never hear...
