Disorder in marriage

Chapter 33 There's No Reason Not to Believe You

Yan Zhi's brain seemed to freeze; she stood there stunned, and Ji Shanmei waited for her to speak for a long time without getting a response.

Unconvinced, she dialed again, only to be told the number was not in service.

It was still possible to get through during the day.

At that time, Chen Jiayi's condition was not abnormal, and she never expected that she would suddenly cancel her phone number.

"Mrs. Gu, if you're not going to cause me any trouble, I'll head back now."

Yan Zhi pinned all her hopes on her, "Ji Shanmei, how did you know I fell into the river today!"

A flicker of panic crossed Ji Shanmei's face, which Yan Zhi noticed.

She quickly moved in front of Ji Shanmei, blocking Ji Shanmei's path.

"I'm not letting you leave until you explain yourself clearly today."

"I don't know what you're talking about, are you crazy?"

Seeing that Ji Shanmei still wanted to hide it, Yan Zhi simply made things clear.

"Chen Jiayi provoked me during my childbirth and intentionally tried to kill me and my child! When I confronted her, she said that you instructed her to do it!"

Ji Shanmei also sensed something was wrong. "What did you say?"

The surface of the swimming pool was calm just a moment ago, but now it suddenly has several ripples.

Yan Zhi's expression was grave, a shadow falling over her entire face. "Now that Gu Yunmo knows about this, do you think you can escape?"

Ji Shanmei raised her voice, "I don't know this Chen Jiayi at all! How dare she slander me!"

After saying that, she immediately glared at Yan Zhi, "You wouldn't have said anything bad to President Gu, would you? Without any evidence, just this little bitch's accusation, don't try to pin it on me!"

Yan Zhi showed no surprise, and was even somewhat speechless at Ji Shanmei's inability to grasp the situation.

"If you were behind this, Chen Jiayi wouldn't have needed to cancel her phone number. The fact that she's run away means someone else was pulling the strings behind the scenes. You and I have both fallen for their trap!"

Ji Shanmei fell into deep thought; clearly, she already had someone she suspected.

"Ji Shanmei, I'm asking you one last time, how did you know I fell into the river?"

Ji Shanmei's eyes darted left and right, "I...I..."

"Can't you see? Someone's using you behind my back, trying to incite my hatred towards you. Do you really want to be used as a target? Telling me what you know is also helping yourself!"

Yan Zhi's words brought Ji Shanmei back to her senses, and she took a step back.

"How could you possibly help me? Others are using me, how noble are you? I won't tell you, and I'm not going to be a fool and let myself be used as a target! Go ahead and blame me, I don't believe President Gu will believe your one-sided story!"

After saying that, she walked past Yan Zhi and left.

Yan Zhi didn't know whether to call her foolish or shrewd, but her reminder was more than enough. Ji Shanmei should have a clue about who wanted them to fight to the death.

She called Xia Linglong and asked her to inquire about Chen Jiayi's whereabouts.

After finishing her phone call with Xia Linglong, she went downstairs and bumped into Gu Yunmo as soon as she stepped out of the elevator.

He hurriedly put on his clothes, his face grim. Yan Zhi instinctively asked, "What's wrong? What happened?"

Gu Yunmo said anxiously, "Ji Shanmei was pushed down the stairs... Where were you just now?"

Yan Zhi was stunned. If she were to reveal that she had gone to see Ji Shanmei, Gu Yunmo would definitely assume that she was the one who pushed Ji Shanmei down the stairs.

"I'll go take a look too."

Gu Yunmo and Yan Zhi arrived at the scene. Ji Shanmei was curled up on the ground screaming. The hotel staff were afraid of causing further harm, so they did not dare to move her.

The ambulance was already on its way, but Ji Shanmei's lower leg was severely deformed and likely fractured.

"President Gu!"

The moment Ji Shanmei saw Gu Yunmo, she burst into tears, crying, "Help me! Help me!"

Gu Yunmo squatted down beside her. "Did you hurt your head?"

Ji Shanmei could only shake her head and cry, "I don't know, it hurts...it hurts so much."

"Where does it hurt?"

"My whole body hurts so much, Mr. Gu, am I going to die? Please save me! I don't want to die! Waaah..."

Gu Yunmo calmly comforted her, "Don't worry, the ambulance will be here soon. Just hang in there a little longer, I promise you'll be alright."

Ji Shanmei nodded, then caught a glimpse of Yan Zhi out of the corner of her eye, and her expression immediately changed drastically. "Mrs. Gu! Why did you push me!"

Everyone looked at Yan Zhi.

Yan Zhi pointed at herself, "Me? I hurt you?"

Ji Shanmei lay on the ground, "You're the one who called me out. I thought you were going to talk to me about something, but instead you pushed me down the stairs!"

Yan Zhi's worst fears came true; she had a bad feeling all night.

Gu Yunmo stood up, turned to her, and asked in a deep voice, "Did you do this?"

Yan Zhi straightened her back. Gu Yunmo had no doubt about Ji Shanmei's words. It turned out that Yan Zhi was such a treacherous and vicious person in Gu Yunmo's mind.

She scoffed, "The burden of proof lies with the accused. She claims I pushed her, but where's the evidence?"

Ji Shanmei struggled to lift her head off the ground and said weakly, "Mr. Gu, Mrs. Gu said that I instructed that person named Chen Jiayi to provoke her, but I don't know this person at all!"

Yan Zhi watched her perform quietly.

"I've already explained to my wife, but no matter what I say, she won't believe me! I never expected her to wrong me like this! She even pushed me down the stairs to vent her anger!"

Yan Zhi confronted her, "I wasn't even there when you fell down the stairs! You say I pushed you, then check the security footage. Also, I never suspected you were responsible for me almost falling into the river, but now, I think there's something very wrong with you."

Ji Shanmei looked at Gu Yunmo with a wronged expression, "Mr. Gu, you must give me justice! I didn't do any of those things at all. And about my wife falling into the river, I wasn't even there. How could I possibly know she fell into the river?"

She was lying, but Yan Zhi had no evidence to prove it.

She now deeply regrets not recording that phone call.

As a lawyer, I have never experienced what it feels like to be unable to defend myself.

Gu Yunmo, who had been silent until now, spoke up, his tone unreadable: "I will check the surveillance footage. Xiao Zhi, you should go back to your room first."

Yan Zhi remained motionless, oblivious to the stares of those around her. "Gu Yunmo, do you believe me?"

Gu Yunmo's deep eyes flickered, his arm tensed unconsciously, he pursed his lips, and said calmly and coldly, "You are my wife, I have no reason not to believe you."

Upon hearing this answer, Yan Zhi's feelings were as complicated as if a spice jar had been spilled.

If she weren't Mrs. Gu, she would mean nothing to him.

Before leaving, she glanced at Ji Shanmei on the ground. "Let me make a bold prediction: there's probably no CCTV footage of Manager Ji falling down the stairs. This will most likely end up blaming me anyway. It's okay, I just hope Manager Ji doesn't forget every word she said today. I'm a very vengeful person."
