Disorder in marriage

Jiang Jin waited for Gu Yunmo to agree to his resignation, but he simply looked out the window, rolled down the window, and lit half a cigarette.

After taking only a couple of puffs, he pressed his exposed, pale wrist against his brow and rubbed it listlessly.

The smell of smoke lingered in the carriage for a long time, and listening to his heavy breathing, Jiang Jin didn't dare to move.

"You've been with me for so many years, you know I don't have many friends. To a large extent, work is my friend. Every employee at Gu's is like family to me."

Jiang Jin really didn't want to use the word "heartache" to describe Gu Yunmo, but when he heard him say that, he felt even worse than if Gu Yunmo had scolded him.

"I always thought that the luckiest thing after I met Yan Fei was that I got you to be my assistant."

Jiang Jin slowly raised his head. "President Gu... I'm so sorry!"

Gu Yunmo raised the hand holding the cigarette. "Jiang Jin, you like Yan Fei, and whatever you do for her is your own business."

"But you hurt Ji Shanmei, wronged Xiao Zhi, and schemed against both of them. These things can't be resolved by just an apology and resignation."

Jiang Jin pursed his lips. "I understand. I will try my best to make it up to you."

Gu Yunmo's expression was indifferent. "The company and family are my bottom line, especially Yan Zhi. No matter how much we argue, she still gave birth to my child."

He flicked off his cigarette ash. "If you can remember this in the future, I won't pursue this matter any further."

Jiang Jin was flattered and it took him a while to realize that Gu Yunmo was giving him a chance.

"Mr. Gu, thank you! I will definitely do my best!"

"Okay, let's drive."

Jiang Jin started the car and glanced back at the firm that Yan Zhi and her friend ran before leaving.

Fortunately, Yan Zhi didn't get into any serious trouble this time, otherwise he would have felt too guilty towards Gu Yunmo.

"Mr. Gu, what about Sister Fei? Are we just going to leave her alone?"

After a while, Gu Yunmo's magnetic yet indifferent voice came from the back row.

"She has my card; please get it back for her. Also, her current place seems a bit far from the school; please let her find a new apartment herself."

Jiang Jin could tell that this meant Yan Fei's financial support was going to be reduced.

But this was a lesson Yan Fei deserved, and he nodded in agreement, "Understood."

"Also, you had someone injure Ji Shanmei's leg. Starting tomorrow, you will go to Shenzhen to take care of Ji Shanmei until she recovers."

Jiang Jin did not plead for himself, only replying, "Yes."

......

The next day, Yan Zhi and Gu Yunmo returned to the old house. She had stayed at Xia Linglong's house the night before, and when she arrived at the Gu family's old house, Gu Yunmo was already there.

"Xiao Zhi, why are you only arriving now? We've been waiting for you for ages!"

The old lady always started by blaming, which Yan Zhi was used to.

She explained, "A client in one of the cases encountered a sudden situation, so I went over to handle it."

With Gu Yunmo's help, Old Mrs. Gu took a walk along the stone path in the courtyard.

"We're not short of money at home, and we don't need you to go out and work to earn that meager wage. Now that you've married into our Gu family, you should focus your attention on the family! Look at Yunmo, he's been so busy with work these days, he's lost so much weight. As his wife, why don't you even care?"

Yan Zhi lowered her head and listened to the reprimand, "I will definitely pay attention in the future."

Grandma Gu turned and looked her up and down. "Also, I heard you went on a business trip to Shenzhen with Yunmo. Why did you come back early?"

Yan Zhi didn't know whether Gu Yunmo had reported it or the old lady had gotten the news herself.

If she makes another excuse about having work to do, the old lady will definitely make her stop working.

"One of Yunmo's employees had an accident over there, and I couldn't help much, so I came back first."

Grandma Gu raised an eyebrow and patted Gu Yunmo's hand. "Yunmo, is that so?"

Yan Zhi secretly breathed a sigh of relief when she heard him say yes.

Grandma Gu didn't press the matter further. Anyone with eyes could see that the two of them were up to something, but she was too lazy to bother with it. As long as the couple were of one mind, they could manage to get by.

Yan Zhi chatted with her for a few more minutes before going to the kitchen to help prepare lunch.

The old lady then called Gu Yunmo to the study and handed him a stack of documents.

"I did find out about what you asked me to inquire about last time. Wei Dinglian came to my house several times, and she probably sensed something was wrong. She hasn't come to see me much these past few days."

The old lady walked with difficulty, leaning on her cane and slowly sitting down on the armrest of the solid wood sofa.

Gu Yunmo flipped through a few pages. The first few pages contained information about Yan Zhi's parents. Her parents started from scratch and at their peak, they were among the top 100 richest people in China.

Yan Zhi was born around that time. The old lady recalled, "At that time, Yan Zhi's parents didn't actually plan to have children; they were childless by choice. But when Yan Zhi was born, her parents felt it was an auspicious sign and insisted on bringing her into the world no matter what."

Gu Yunmo asked, "And then?"

The old lady flipped through the documents and showed him a will that Yan Zhi's parents had drafted earlier.

"Before she became pregnant with Yan Zhi, the couple had promised that all their assets would go to her younger brother's family, including real estate and companies, which would all belong to Yan Fei in the future."

"But unexpectedly, they got pregnant with her child again, and the baby was born and they took all the money. Do you think Yan Fei's parents wouldn't hate Yan Zhi?"

The old lady gave a mocking laugh. "That's just human nature! Although I understand Wei Dinglian and his wife quite well, I'm still glad you married Yan Zhi back then!"

Gu Yunmo lowered his eyes and glanced through all the information. "Xiao Zhi... is she not doing well in the Yan family?"

The old lady shook her head. You can easily find out the truth about this by asking around. Only Yan Zhi herself knows the truth.

"She still has the inheritance left to her by her parents, so the Yan family doesn't dare to neglect her. But to say that they treat her well is definitely impossible, after all, she's not their biological daughter."

Gu Yunmo suddenly remembered that Yan Zhi seemed like a completely different person whenever the Yan family was mentioned.

Perhaps the Yan family really did something to hurt her, otherwise she wouldn't hate them so much.

Only now does he finally begin to understand Yan Zhi's feelings.

Grandma Gu, too, although she didn't like Yan Zhi, believed that every grievance had its cause and every debt its debtor, and that all the grudges had their reasons, so she was willing to forgive Yan Zhi.

"It's good that you can understand her now. I know you two have been giving each other the cold shoulder lately, and Xiaozhi has even moved to a friend's house. If you continue like this, when will I ever be able to hold my great-grandchild?"

Gu Yunmo's Adam's apple bobbed. "Grandma, I didn't want this to happen either."

The old lady gestured for him not to worry, "Both Old Zhou and Old Qin called me."

Gu Yunmo's expression suddenly changed.

The old lady said earnestly, "This child, Niannian, was sent by God to make amends to you and to help you."

"Yunmo, if you still want to give Xiaozhi a try, then seize this opportunity."
