Siheyuan (courtyard house): My name is Shazhu!

"What did the Women's Federation say? It's about dividing the property after a divorce."

"It's Yi Zhonghai's problem; the property should be divided equally. Also, people from the Women's Federation and the Military Control Commission are saying that Yi Zhonghai's actions constitute a crime and he could be sentenced to two years in prison."

"Do you have a complete idea of how much money Yi Zhonghai has?"

"It's less than 43 million. He used to have gold and silver dollars. The country doesn't allow individuals to hoard them. He took them away early the year before last. I don't know where he hid them."

There were fourteen small yellow croakers and one hundred and six silver dollars. He said it was money he had earned before, and some was left by his father. He told me not to ask any more questions. Tan Guilan explained it very clearly.

He Yuzhu felt that a two-year sentence was too lenient. He wanted to make Yi Zhonghai lose everything first. If he was sentenced now, how could he intercept the remittances?

Next year, go see He Daqing and leave him ten million. Make sure He Daqing sends more money every year. The more money you embezzle, the faster he will die.

"Aunt Tan, have you thought about life after the divorce?"

"If I find a good man, I'll remarry. I'm only thirty-seven this year, not even forty. If I can't find a good man, I'll adopt a child." That's how I plan for the future.

"Do you plan to get your hands on all of Yi Zhonghai's money? Including gold and silver dollars."

Pretend you don't know about the gold and silver; don't tell anyone. At the very least, they'll be confiscated; at worst, you'll be arrested.

Yi Zhonghai might be sentenced to prison. Let him use the remaining money to buy you to drop the charges against him—that is, you settle things with him privately. If he's not sentenced, he'll still have his job, and he can save money again.

You only received a little over 2,100 yuan, which is rather little. It's only enough for you to live on your own for 30 years. If you get married, it will be better, as you can use his money. You can also spend your own money occasionally.

Without a man, adopting a child might not be enough to raise the child to twenty years old. Prices are not cheap now, so your life can't be too bad. With 40 million, it should be enough for you.

"You must hide the gold and silver dollars well and keep them for future use," He Yuzhu advised Tan Guilan.

"That's fine, I understand. We can't let Yi Zhonghai get away with this. He won't be sentenced, he'll still have his job, and he'll switch with me."

He has a job, so can I ask for a monthly allowance? People these days are rarely kind; there's nothing they won't do, only things they can't imagine.

"Discuss it with him, get it written down in black and white, so he won't go back on his word later. It seems you could also help him cook and clean to earn money; the decision is yours."

"I understand. The deaf old lady came to see me this afternoon and, as expected, advised me not to sue Yi Zhonghai and to drop the case, saying that I was unemployed and needed Yi Zhonghai..."

She said a lot, but it all boils down to one thing: drop the case! She should live a good life with Yi Zhonghai. These past two years, I've taken care of her for nothing; I've only been speaking up for Yi Zhonghai.

I also saw through her selfish motives. I didn't leave the courtyard house because I originally wanted to take care of her for a few more years. She doesn't lack money, but she's getting old and needs someone to take care of her. So I'll just forget about it in the future." Tan Guilan said self-deprecatingly.

"The deaf old lady is selfish, and you know that. If she pays you to be her caregiver and the price is right, why not go? Being a caregiver is a respectable job."

Given your age and education level, finding a decent job is almost impossible. You need money for retirement and raising children. Why wouldn't you earn money if you have it?

"That makes sense."

After speaking, he took Tan Guilan to He Yushui's house. They had bedding available; it didn't matter whose bedding they used. He Yushui's bedding needed to be re-fluffed.

"Brother, is Aunt Tan borrowing my house because she's getting a divorce from Yi Zhonghai and wants to live separately?"

"Yi Zhonghai is a big bad guy, but Aunt Tan is a nice person. I can lend her the house. I'll go back to live there in September." He Yushui remembered the time she lived alone.

"Rain, why do you think Aunt Tan is a nice person?"

"I feel like my brother is very good to me. I also feel that Aunt Tan is very kind to us. Since Dad passed away, she has shown us no malice, but rather goodwill," He Yushui replied.

I've heard people say before that little brats have this ability.

.......

The next day, before eight o'clock in the morning, He Yuzhu and his sister had not yet gotten up, and the courtyard was in a mess.

I got up, got dressed, and opened the door to find thirty people gathered in front of Yi Zhonghai's house.

The door to Yi Zhonghai's house has been opened. People from the Women's Federation and the Military Control Commission should go in to look for him.

Less than three minutes later, Yi Zhonghai was taken out of his home by two soldiers.

As soon as he stepped out, Yi Zhonghai stopped and said loudly, "Comrade, I admit it's my problem. I can't have children. I don't need to go to the hospital for a checkup."

Comrade Tan Guilan, let's discuss this. We can get a divorce now; there's no need to trouble the comrades from the Women's Federation and the Military Control Commission.

Yi Zhonghai felt that the situation was quite serious. If he was forced to undergo a medical examination, he might lose his job. The worst part was that he was also required to go inside and smash rocks, which would ruin everything.

He could see that, and knew clearly, that if he said this, Tan Guilan would definitely divorce him. Being honest with her was more negotiable than being honest with the Military Control Commission.

"Yi Zhonghai, you bastard, you finally admitted that it was your fault."

Do you know how many times I've cried in secret? Do you know how it feels to be pointed at and gossiped about when I go out? Do you know how painful it is to be called a hen that can't lay eggs?

You knew the truth all along, yet you concealed and deceived me for over ten years. What kind of life have I lived for these past ten years? Do you even know? You are utterly devoid of conscience...

Tan Guilan burst into tears instantly, crying and loudly questioning Yi Zhonghai.

Everyone present sighed. It wasn't that Yi Zhonghai didn't know whose fault it was, but that he had been deceiving his wife all along. Anyone would find it hard to resist.

Yi Zhonghai is a man beyond most people's imagination; a man who was once devoted to his wife suddenly became a man who deceived her for over ten years.

He still uses his wife's reputation to show that he is great and a good man. In the past, many people respected him for not abandoning his wife who couldn't have children.

"Comrade Yi Zhonghai, since you admit that you have been deceiving Comrade Tan Guilan, I agree to grant you a divorce, which is now in effect. Go to the Military Control Commission to dissolve your marriage."

The assets will be divided equally... Do either of you have any objections to this?

"No," they both answered in unison.

"Next, Yi Zhonghai's deception of Comrade Tan Guilan for more than ten years constitutes a crime. Yi Zhonghai will be brought back to the Military Control Commission for handling by the comrades of the Military Control Commission."

"I'll distribute the property to you first, then I'll send Yi Zhonghai to the military control commission," a woman from the Women's Federation said loudly.

"Comrade...comrade, could you give me ten minutes? Let's go back inside and talk for a few minutes, just ten minutes." Yi Zhonghai tried to save himself.

The leading comrade from the Women's Federation nodded to Tan Guilan and said, "You have ten minutes to explain what you have to say."

He Yuzhu and the comrades from the Women's Federation all thought that Yi Zhonghai wanted to settle the matter privately. They reasoned that Yi Zhonghai was morally corrupt and wouldn't be sentenced to more than two years, so the Women's Federation agreed to let them settle the matter privately.

It's unclear what Yi Zhonghai and the other man said. Seven or eight minutes later, the two men came out.

"Thank you to the Women's Federation and the Military Control Commission comrades, thank you for helping me seek justice. Divorce is a certainty; you've deceived me for over ten years, can we please let it go?"

"Okay." The woman leading the women's federation gave the two of them a deep look, knowing that they had settled things privately.

They didn't care that Tan Guilan received compensation; she was an unemployed woman who needed money.

"I'll divide the marital property first, then I'll go and register my resignation. Comrade Yi Zhonghai, although Comrade Tan Guilan will no longer sue you."

However, your character is questionable. Starting tonight, you will be attending a month-long training program at our Women's Federation. Report to the station after your shift at the steel rolling mill.” The Women's Federation personnel did not resort to criminal measures.

"Yes, yes, I will definitely study hard." "At least I kept my job. With a job, I'll have money too."
