America: The neighbor's wife is so incredibly hospitable!
Chapter 74 Aya
"Therefore, we must be polite."
Chen An looked out the window at the increasingly desolate scenery.
The asphalt road has been replaced by a gravel road, and the fences on both sides have disappeared, replaced by a more pristine dense forest.
"But if politeness doesn't work, then we need to have the means to be 'impolite'."
He patted the long box containing the gun next to his seat.
After driving for an hour.
A huge wooden archway appeared ahead.
Several dried bison skulls hung above, with a few crooked words written on them:
[Grizzly Bear Territory, No Trespassing]
Under the archway, two Chevrolet Suburbans in police colors lay across the road.
Four dark-skinned, long-haired Indian tribal policemen in khaki uniforms.
He was holding an AR-15 rifle, staring coldly at the two foreign vehicles.
"parking."
One of the lead police officers raised his hand.
Ironhead stopped the car and rolled down the window: "Hey guys. We're here to visit Chief Sam. We have an appointment."
"Outsiders are not welcome here. Especially white people driving big cars like this... or whatever."
The policeman glanced at Chen An, who was sitting in the passenger seat, his eyes filled with vigilance and hostility.
"Turn around. Now."
The atmosphere instantly became tense.
The Titan security guards in the car behind had their hands on the stun guns in their arms.
Chen An opened the car door and got out.
The cold wind blew his black overcoat.
He didn't raise his hand or make any provocative gestures; instead, he calmly walked up to the policeman.
"Tell Chief Sam."
Chen An's voice wasn't loud, but it could travel far in the open field.
"I am Chen An, the new master of Sunset Stream. I bring greetings from the depths of the earth."
As he spoke, he gestured for Tie Tou to move the insulated box down and open the lid.
Several strange, silvery-white fish without eyes were swimming in the water.
The policeman glanced at the fish in the box, and his previously indifferent expression instantly changed.
"This is... a demon-faced trout?"
He drew a strange symbol on his chest, and his gaze toward Chen An changed from hostility to surprise, and even a hint of awe.
"Was this taken from the 'devil's throat'?"
"That's right." Chen An nodded. "Those are the blood vessels of Mother Earth."
"I think the chief would like to try this long-lost flavor."
The police officer was silent for a few seconds, then picked up the walkie-talkie and spoke a few words in a local dialect that Chen An couldn't understand.
After a while.
"Release them."
The police cleared the way, but still warned, "Only this one car can go in."
"The other bodyguards need to stay outside. And hand over all your guns."
"Tie Tou, you guys wait outside," Chen An instructed.
"Boss, this..." Tie Tou said with some concern.
"It's alright. When in Rome, do as the Romans do."
Chen An handed the Glock pistol to Tie Tou, keeping only the Winchester rifle, which he had given as a gift, in the box.
The Raptor started up again and drove into that mysterious reserve.
………………
The center of the reserve wasn't filled with tents as Chen An had imagined.
It is a small town scattered with various wooden houses and modern prefabricated houses.
Although it appears somewhat poor, it exudes a tenacious vitality.
The car stopped in front of a huge log cabin at the far end of town.
An old Native American with a wrinkled face and white hair braided in an exquisite braid sat in a rocking chair on the porch, holding a beautifully carved pipe in his hand.
This is Old Sam, the chief of the Grizzly Bear tribe.
"young people."
Old Sam did not get up, but instead looked Chen An up and down with his cloudy yet sharp eyes.
"I heard you're also a 'Child of the Earth'? Although your skin color is similar to mine."
"But you have a very strong... smell of money on you. It stinks."
"Money really stinks, Chief."
Chen An wasn't angry. He took the insulated box and gun case off the car and put them on the ground.
"But sometimes, money can buy blankets to keep warm, fix leaky roofs, and enable children in the tribe to receive a better education."
Chen An opened the gun case.
The silver-plated Winchester M1894, engraved with a bison motif, was displayed in the sunlight.
Old Sam's eyes lit up.
This is a good thing; it's the romance of the Old West.
"The gun is nice. But I don't need it."
Old Sam exhaled a smoke ring. "I know what you're here for."
"People from TerraPower came last month. They wanted to build a dam upstream on that river, and I chased them away. The same goes for you."
"Water is life. We will not sell our rivers to people who want to dump poison into them."
Their attitude was very firm.
"I don't want to build dams, nor do I want to pollute the environment."
Chen An opened the insulated box. "I just wanted to borrow some water. In exchange, I brought this."
Upon seeing the blind trout, Old Sam finally sat up straight.
With trembling hands, he reached into the water and touched the fish's body.
"It really is it... the Demon Trout."
Old Sam muttered to himself, "That fish has been gone for fifty years."
"Legend has it that they only appear when the earth's anger subsides."
He raised his head and gave Chen An a deep look.
"You were able to catch it, which means the earth approves of you. But..."
Old Sam then changed the subject.
"A few fish cannot buy the right to draw water from a river. It has been the lifeblood of our tribe for hundreds of years."
"What do you need?" Chen An asked.
"we need to……"
Just then.
The rapid sound of horses' hooves interrupted the conversation.
"Giddy up! Giddy up!"
A magnificent chestnut-red horse galloped out from the woods not far away.
A hot young Native American girl, wearing a deerskin fringed vest and jeans, sat on horseback.
She wasn't using a saddle; instead, she rode a bareback horse, her long hair dancing wildly in the wind like a raging fire.
She was actually holding a modern composite bow in her hand.
"Grandpa! We can't give these white people... or these outsiders even a drop of water!"
The girl pulled on the reins, and the spirited horse reared up.
Its forelegs slammed down half a meter in front of Chen An, kicking up a cloud of dirt.
Wild horse.
Wild people.
Chen An took a half step back, squinting as he sized up the uninvited guest who had suddenly barged in.
She is beautiful.
She's not as voluptuous as Sarah, nor as urbanly stylish as Jessica.
She has healthy tanned skin and toned muscles.
Especially those legs, so powerful they seemed capable of crushing a person's ribs.
Her features were deep and wild, and her eyes gleamed like a wolf.
"This is my granddaughter, Aya."
Old Sam explained, his tone tinged with pride.
"He is also the best hunter in the tribe and the future heir to the tribe."
Aya dismounted with the agility of a cougar.
She walked up to Chen An, a little taller than Jessica, and exuded a wild, aggressive aura.
"It's you?"
Aya looked Chen An up and down. "I heard you're a 'sharpshooter'? You even chased away those bastards from Smith's gang?"
"It's just for self-preservation," Chen An replied calmly.
