The fire in the side compartment suddenly intensified.
The armed men outside were stunned by this sudden and brutal attack, and their formation was torn open on the spot.
This grand scene took An Ran by surprise.
Chen Zheng simply said...
"See that?"
"When people are pushed to the limit, they can be quite formidable in a fight."
An Ran couldn't help but reply.
"You still have the mind to teach me?"
Chen Zheng glanced at her.
"Practical teaching, guaranteed to teach and learn."
Upon hearing this, An Ran was so angry she laughed.
Who is this person?
This can all be considered high intensity.
But it was precisely this sentence that relaxed her tense nerves a little.
Using the firelight and the chaos, the two pushed their way through.
An Ran easily shot down one of the men who was trying to set up a gun on a high vantage point.
Chen Zheng charged into the crowd, his fists and feet swift and clean, knocking down those who stood in his way.
Several Chinese laborers also took advantage of the chaos to escape, covering their heads and rushing outside.
The middle-aged man almost left his sister behind again; he circled around in the fire and pulled the little girl out.
The gunfire outside intensified.
Holden has already led his men to the outer perimeter of the mine.
As soon as An Ran rushed out the door, she saw Holden's men retreating not far away.
Holden himself was standing next to a pickup truck, holding the black briefcase in his hand.
LC-7.
An Ran paused involuntarily.
A thought flashed through her mind: if she chased after them, she might be able to get the file box.
But behind her were Chen Zheng and the people she had just rescued, and the mine was in complete chaos.
Once she chased after them, the group scattered; if they got entangled, no one could escape.
The decision was made in a split second, but in hindsight, it carried significant weight.
An Ran's eyes darkened, and she hesitated almost without hesitation.
"I'm not going to pursue it anymore."
"Withdraw the men, leave."
She grabbed the little girl and yelled at the middle-aged man.
"Take the people and run towards the ferry."
Chen Zheng glanced at her, said nothing, and simply raised his gun to shoot out the headlights of the car that was chasing from the other side, creating another patch of darkness for everyone.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the group rushed out of Black Vulture Slope.
The mountain road was difficult to traverse, and sporadic gunshots were still chasing from behind.
An Ran stayed by their side the whole way, protecting them until they all arrived at the abandoned ferry crossing outside the mountains, by which time the sky was already turning white.
The river breeze is cool.
The little girl huddled in her brother's arms, trembling.
The two Chinese laborers slumped to the ground, panting heavily.
An Ran then squatted down, took out a first-aid kit, and began to treat everyone's injuries.
She had been on edge the whole way, and only when she came to Chen Zheng did her hands begin to tremble slightly after she had finished dealing with everyone else.
Chen Zheng looked up at her.
"You did the right thing this time."
Upon hearing this, An Ran paused involuntarily.
Her tense nerves finally relaxed, and her eyes felt a little hot.
But she remained defiant.
"I'm just too lazy to collect your corpse."
"If he really dies, I'll have to carry him back. What a hassle."
Chen Zheng chuckled softly.
Then he raised his hand and gently rubbed his thumb against the side of her face, wiping away a streak of black ash.
Upon seeing this, An Ran's breath caught in her throat, and she glared at him.
"Keep your hands to yourself."
Chen Zheng hummed in agreement.
"OK."
"It's mainly because it's too dirty, which affects the viewing experience."
An Ran almost strangled him with a bandage.
Just then.
Suddenly, the sound of an engine came from the river in the distance.
The sound was rapid and getting closer.
The two looked up at the same time.
On the river where the mist had dissipated, a speedboat sped downstream, leaving a trail of white waves.
The man standing at the bow of the ship was none other than Holden.
And what he was carrying in his hand was that black file box.
Upon seeing this, An Ran's eyes immediately turned cold.
Holden stood at the bow of the speedboat, carrying a black briefcase, not even bothering to hide, and even tilted his head to glance in their direction.
It's clearly a provocation.
He had already guessed Chen Zheng and his group's origins.
They even guessed that they came for the egrets and the CIA behind them.
An Ran tensed her shoulders, raising the gun barrel half an inch, having already calculated the angle in her mind.
The river isn't very wide, the wind is blowing to the left, and the speedboat isn't at full speed yet. If it really comes down to a fight, we might have a chance.
If we really wanted to give chase, there was a rotten wooden boat tied to the abandoned ferry crossing. Whether we could catch up with it was another matter, but we could at least catch its tail.
Just as he raised his hand, Chen Zheng pressed down on the gun barrel.
"lay down."
An Ran clenched her teeth.
"They can fight."
"Being able to fight doesn't mean you should fight."
Chen Zheng stared at the river and said in a low voice, "If we chase them now, what will happen to the wounded and the children?"
Holden's speedboat kicked up white waves as it deliberately slowed down and passed through the middle of the river, clearly showing off to them.
"He dares to run around so openly, he's most likely trying to lure someone in."
"If you rush out headlong, what will happen to the people behind you?"
Anran understood.
The more I understood, the more tight my chest felt.
They were right in front of us, they were almost able to pin someone down on this river, but we had to stand there and watch them sail away.
She gritted her teeth and slowly lowered the muzzle of the gun.
Holden stood at the bow of the ship, carrying a suitcase; even his back view looked incredibly irritating.
The speedboat quickly entered the downstream waterway, its roar fading into the distance.
An Ran stood still, her face still tense.
Chen Zheng glanced at her but didn't say anything, only glancing at the few people who had just been rescued behind him.
"Don't just stand there at the ferry crossing, let's go somewhere else."
The abandoned fishing shed is not far from the ferry crossing, nestled against a patch of rotten reeds.
It looks quite dilapidated from the outside, but it can barely keep out the wind from the inside.
As soon as the group went inside, An Ran's expression returned to calm.
I may be angry, but I still have to get the work done.
As soon as she entered the room, she raised her hand and pointed at people.
"Zhou Cheng, your sister stays with you. Sit in the corner and don't run around."
"You, the one who was shot in the left arm, first press on the wound and tighten the bandage."
"Sir, go to the doorway, but don't stand still. Report any noise you hear."
"You two, wipe away the footprints outside, and cover the bloodstains with mud, making sure there's no shininess."
"That little girl is being watched; don't let her get frightened again."
After a few words, the people in the shed calmed down immediately.
Zhou Cheng was stunned for a moment, then quickly nodded and pulled his sister behind him.
Another Chinese laborer, clutching his wound, had been struggling with his legs, but now he forced himself to stand up.
When you're busy, your mind isn't so chaotic.
An Ran squatted down and continued to rummage through the first-aid kit to make sure she had any other supplies.
Then he looked up at Chen Zheng and paused involuntarily.
How did this guy manage to do that? He was captured and locked up, yet he wasn't injured at all.
Surely it's not that those thugs had a change of heart and didn't beat him up?
When Chen Zheng saw her looking over, he raised his chin.
"Get back to your work."
She didn't say anything, but turned around and examined Zhou Cheng's sister's wrist first.
The rope had been too tight, and the skin had been torn in several layers.
The little girl's eyes were still red, and she shrank back, not daring to speak.
