Su Wanqing instantly understood Sun Chengwu's meaning, stood up, rubbed her stomach, and said, "I'm so full, Ataya, come for a walk with me."

Ataya didn't notice the mother and son behind her. She greeted them and then left with Su Wanqing.

After they all left, Sun Chengwu said to Ollie, "As long as I live, I guarantee they'll be alright."

Ollie trusted Sun Chengwu a lot. He pulled Sun Chengwu into the house and said, "Come with me."

Sun Chengwu followed him back to the room.

Ollie pulled an oilcloth bag out of the cupboard, handed it to him, and said, "This is for you."

The oilcloth bundle was heavy, and Sun Chengwu asked curiously, "What's in it?"

He opened the oilcloth bag, and a brass-colored bullet fell to the ground with a crisp clinking sound.

The metal lump inside revealed a dark corner, and the black muzzle emitted the smell of machine oil.

Sun Chengwu's hand trembled, and he almost dropped it.

It's a gun.

Ollie picked up the bullets that had fallen to the ground and said, "You have to wrap these bullets in tarpaulin, make sure they don't get wet, and definitely don't hit them."

This gun was given to me by the village chief when he went out to sea, so I could use it for self-defense.

Do you know how to use it?

Sun Chengwu looked up at Ollie, "You...I..."

He had never used a gun.

Every Chinese boy dreams of having his own gun when he is young.

We folded paper, made spear shafts, and made bamboo tubes.

Those who can afford it will also buy toy guns.

But those weren't real guns.

When Sun Chengwu first touched this cold, heavy iron lump, his first reaction was that it was heavy, much heavier than he had imagined. He found it difficult to aim with one hand, let alone keep it horizontal for a long time.

He shook his head and said, "I can't."

Ollie skillfully removed the magazine. "Come on, let me teach you. Press these two places together, and the magazine will fall off. That's how you load the bullets..."

He demonstrated it once, and then with a click, the magazine went into the gun.

He disengaged the safety and said, "Don't put your finger on the trigger, or it might go off accidentally. When you're holding it normally, don't disengage the safety; keep your finger behind the trigger."

Holding a gun with both hands, if you shoot with only one hand the first time, you are very likely to injure your wrist.

This gun has a lot of recoil and isn't very accurate, but it can penetrate armor at close range, which is common with Russian weapons.

Here, you give it a try.

Sun Chengwu's hands were trembling with excitement.

He followed Ollie's method, opening the magazine, loading, unloading, then closing the magazine, disengaging the safety, pulling back the bolt to chamber a round, and gripping the gun with both hands.

He thought his grip on the gun was perfect, but Ollie stepped forward, slapped his elbow with his palm, and then lifted his hand up slightly. "Relax your arm, don't tense it, so you can release the recoil when you fire."

Sun Chengwu gripped the gun, feeling its heavy weight, and his heart beat faster than usual.

Ollie patted him on the shoulder, gesturing for him to place the gun on the kang (a heated brick bed) covered with animal hides. "Come on, I'll teach you how to disassemble the gun."

As he spoke, Ollie skillfully pulled a small latch above the trigger guard, and then pushed a pin in the middle of the gun outwards.

With a soft "click," the upper housing loosened.

As Ollie disassembled the gun, he explained, "This is a disassembly latch, also called a receiver pin. Its function is to secure the upper and lower receivers together."

Press it down, pull out the pin, and the upper and lower receivers can be separated. This is the first step in disassembling the gun.

Ollie pulled the pin out completely and set it aside. Then he gripped the handguard, lifted it gently, and pulled it forward. The entire upper part separated from the lower part where the grip and trigger were located.

He picked up the separated upper part, pointed to the dark metal tube, and said, "This is the gun barrel; the bullets are fired from here."

The inside of the gun barrel has spiral grooves called rifling, which make the bullet spin, fly more steadily, and hit more accurately.

The quality of the barrel determines the accuracy and lifespan of a gun.

Remember to wipe off the engine oil for maintenance.

If you don't have engine oil, use deer oil.

The Arctic is too cold; it will damage the gun barrel.

He flipped the gun over to reveal a long, rectangular structure encased in a metal handguard: "This is the gas system, which ensures the gun can fire in bursts; otherwise, it would only fire one round at a time."

Ollie pulled out the thin metal connecting rod: "This is the piston connecting rod, the one that was pushed by the gas combustion earlier."

It transfers the power of the combustion gases to the bolt carrier.

Then, he pointed to a complex metal slider fitted onto the rear half of the barrel: "This is the bolt carrier, the core of the entire automatic cycle."

The piston rod pushes it backward, which in turn causes the bolt to move backward, extracting the empty cartridge case from the chamber.

Then the recoil spring will push it back, pushing the bolt to advance a new bullet into the chamber.

Listen to the sound I make when I take it apart; that "cracking" sound is mainly from it moving.

Ollie's movements were very skillful, and it was clear that the chieftain was training him not only as a successor, but also as a soldier.

Ollie removed the bolt carrier and bolt together, and pointed to the small, claw-like protrusion at the front of the bolt, saying, "This is the extractor. Its function is to grab the bottom edge of the cartridge case when the bolt is retracted, and eject the empty cartridge case from the chamber."

He then pointed to a circular flat surface on the bolt, "This is the firing pin exit, hidden inside the bolt."

When the bolt is fully locked, pulling the trigger will eject the firing pin, striking the primer of the bullet, igniting the propellant, and propelling the bullet out.

Ollie lowered the upper receiver and picked up the lower half. This part was relatively simple in structure, mainly consisting of the grip, trigger, and magazine well.

He pointed to a metal box slot above the grip, "This is the magazine well, and the magazine goes in from here."

The magazine itself is a separate feeding mechanism; a spring inside pushes the bullets upwards one by one, delivering them to the height that the bolt can catch.

He pointed to a small lever behind the trigger: "This is the safety. When it's up, it's in the safety position, the trigger will be locked and cannot be pulled. When it's down, it's in the firing position."

Remember, never prepare to fire. Once your finger is off the trigger, engage the safety.

Finally, he pointed to the inside of the connection between the stock and the grip, "There's a recoil spring inside, which is responsible for returning the bolt carrier and bolt to their original positions and chambering a round."

It's long and hidden inside the stock, so you can't see it when you disassemble the gun.

After Ollie finished explaining, he quickly reassembled all the parts in order, and with a few crisp "clicks," a complete gun reappeared in front of Sun Chengwu.

Ollie pushed the gun in front of Sun Chengwu. "Come on, follow my steps, take it apart and put it back together."

Sun Chengwu felt like he was listening to gibberish when Ollie spoke, but he had a strong learning ability and began to try to disassemble the gun.
