Chapter 146 Damn Smoke

The scene froze on the last frame of the emperor being swallowed up.

Immediately afterwards, the emperor easily tore open the gap between the trans-temporal flow and nothingness (which was actually just a manifestation of memory consciousness), and stepped into the void where there was nothing to rely on.

His self-sunlight shone on Li Zhen and Rachel, who had watched the whole thing.

At this moment, the emperor's eyes were neither chaotic nor angry; the black and white of his eyes were clearly defined, and even most of his usual emotions had disappeared.

exhausted?

despair?

Li Zhen felt it was more like a lifeless emptiness.

The three fell into an awkward silence until Li Zhen noticed that the emperor's gaze was more focused on Rachel.

"I thought you would at least hold a grudge."

Li Zhen pulled Rachel closer to her, raising an eyebrow and teasing her.

The focus of their gaze slowly shifted to Li Zhen's face.

"Resentment—Reverse Lightning?"

The emperor's face showed no change in emotion, as if he had no interest in even twitching a few facial muscles.

"You don't hate him?"

Li Zhen was somewhat surprised.

"Back in reality, you would completely lose your mind whenever you saw Reverse-Flash. With a body strength that was on par with mine, you were willing to endure my attacks and keep getting injured, all you could think about was catching up with Reverse-Flash."

The emperor finally took more diverse actions.

He shrugged.

"The Hypertime Stream is not a place I can set foot in. In my timeline, I fought and struggled with the Parallax Demon's consciousness for too long, wasting too much energy and opportunities for evolution. In the end, I was no match for the abilities a normal Parallax Demon should have."

Li Zhen frowned. The other person's mind seemed to have finally cleared up, and the wealth of memories he should have possessed was beginning to be almost the same as his own.

The emperor raised his finger and pointed to his brain.

"The only reason I survived in the Hypertime Stream was because of my last bit of resentment towards Reverse-Flash—in fact, my true thoughts should still be lingering in the Hypertime Stream even now."

"But you clearly arrived in the reality I'm in?"

"It's just one of me who arrived. Infinite time has infinite possibilities. From the moment I was drawn into it, I appeared synchronously in every time period."

"The fallen me, the conscious me, the resentful me."

"Me at eight hundred years old, me at one thousand years old, me at ten thousand years old."

"I had countless attempts, and it just so happens that I succeeded at the age of 1105."

Li Zhen's eye twitched.

"And then you just put me in there to die without any hesitation?"

Even emperors admit they can't stand normally in the time-traveling world. If Li Zhen, who could barely contend with the fully formed Doomsday, went in then, wouldn't he be swept away by the waves?

Unexpectedly, the emperor shook his head.

"It is precisely because you are not assimilated by the hyper-time flow that I have a chance of success."

He stretched out his still large palm and made three strokes in the blank space that seemed empty but was actually a memory.

"An existence that is absolutely weaker than the trans-time flow will be completely annihilated once it enters. Its meaning will be divided and recorded by countless times, like paint that has been submerged in a river. It cannot be said that it does not exist, but it is difficult to reassemble."

"Someone like me can barely maintain consciousness, but I am also swallowed up by the trans-temporal flow, becoming an infinite number of 'me's' in infinite time, drifting along and eternally sinking."

"Then there's Parallax Demon Hal Jordan. Yes, although I didn't observe him directly, like a fish in water that can only vaguely sense movement on the shore, I can know of his existence. He stands above the hypertime stream and can pay a certain price to intervene in a reality he wants to enter."

"Fish cannot switch places with the water flow."

"On that line, you were there too—that's why I was able to—but from the moment I had this thought, I realized there was no one around me—"

"So even though I succeeded, you should actually be—just you—"

When the emperor's penultimate sentence was uttered, Li Zhen felt a ringing in his ears and his mind became hazy.

He shook his head, scratched his ear, and looked completely bewildered.

"What did you say?"

Li Zhen then looked at Rachel, who was equally bewildered and even more dizzy than Li Zhen.

The emperor was stunned. After a few seconds, he shook his head and revealed a slightly helpless smile.

"I said, because you have resistance to time, I was able to replace you, and I know that you will return to that universe sooner or later. In the infinite possibilities of development, everything has already shown signs. The timing of your return is only a matter of time. And I, whose consciousness is not clear, desperately want to take this opportunity to take revenge."

Li Zhen pondered for a moment, recalling the years when the black-robed superhero flew her like a kite.

Even the bio-field that Superman in black robes protects him at all times has evolved to adapt to and develop its own force field.

Despite having adapted to the particle impacts of the spacetime chaos, it seems that they haven't gained any significant improvement.

It turns out it's something as invisible and intangible as time resistance.

"Then you now—"

"Hating Reverse Flash is pointless now."

The emperor clenched his fist; a surge of emotions still lingered within him, directed at the Parallax Monster and the Triple Demon.

After all, the emperor, once he regained his senses, had already learned the truth.

But then he gave up.

The emperor placed certain hopes on Li Zhen.

"One piece of advice: don't make the same mistake I did. The energy of the emotional spectrum is usable, but never rely on it. This doesn't just apply to Parallax Demons. Even if I made all the right choices from the moment I stepped into the negative space, my maximum potential would still be weaker than that of Parallax Demons."

"The summit has already been occupied by those who have already reached it, so the upper limit is essentially locked. Besides, with the help of the evolution of the emotional spectrum—I doubt that's the right route for you."

Li Zhen waved her hand dismissively.

"I have never had any great ambitions. Compared to people of your level, my humble ideals are nothing more than contentment with modest wealth."

"Brother, as a long-lived species, I feel that a lifespan of tens of thousands of years is a bit too long, let alone living in a world where even superhumans have unpredictable fates."

The emperor smirked, seemingly amused by Li Zhen's words.

But his smile quickly vanished, and finally, in the darkness of shattered memories, he turned away.

When Li Zhen and Rachel opened their eyes, a small amount of time had already passed in reality.

Shazam is seriously injured and unconscious. Superman, wearing a mask and barely regaining some strength, is fighting with Superman. The clash of their fists and kicks stirs up the Kryptonite dust that is about to touch the ground.

Batman and Wonder Woman, who has returned to the battlefield, are fighting against Sea King and the Ringwright, while Owl crouches not far away, seemingly operating some strange little device.

The emperor, who had also awakened, turned around, much to the astonishment of the Syndicate members.

But the owl seemed to suddenly breathe a sigh of relief.

A beggar, completely bound, was teleported to Night Owl's side.

He ripped the sack off the man's head and removed the covering from his mouth and nose.

"Although the cleanup will be a problem, he definitely has the ability to clear the battlefield."

As the dilapidated beggar breathed in the fresh air, he suddenly shouted out a spell that was both familiar and inverted to everyone else.

"Zansha!"

Seeing the appearance of a powerful figure who was theoretically capable of confronting an emperor, Night Owl's confident expression suddenly vanished.

Because the emperor's expression did not change at all; he simply turned his head to look at Constantine hanging on the magic gate.

"How long are you going to keep up this pretense?"

Constantine, whose face had been deathly pale, raised his head with a hint of horror and looked at the emperor with some surprise.

Then the down-on-his-luck magician, who should have been drained of blood, raised his wrist, which had been pierced by the Heavenly Stone Hook, and snapped his fingers.

Constantine vanished from the doorway after a flash of golden magical light, replaced by a bewildered copperhead serpent who had been teleported from a thousand miles away by a displacement spell.

He seemed completely confused as to why he was struggling frantically, but his wrists were firmly held in place by two stone hooks.

"Why did I suddenly get here?!"

"Huh? Constantine? Help me!"

Standing by the door, Constantine ignored the other party's pleas for help. Instead, he leisurely took out a camel cigarette from the inner pocket of the Copperhead suit and lit it amidst the crackling electricity that filled the battlefield after Zamsa's transformation.

Constantine leisurely exhaled a smoke ring, while the emperor turned to look at Li Zhen.

"Would you like to see something big?"
