Chapter 152 Slaying Evil and Immortals
Three days have passed, and the events in Fawcett City have finally spread.
The fact that the Crime Syndicate is virtually identical to the Justice League members, along with the corresponding characters and the emperor who destroyed the Eye of Heaven, has made many people in this world feel uneasy.
Li Zhen was invited to participate in a UN investigation meeting on the Justice League via projection.
Actually, Li Zhen wasn't really interested in this kind of meeting, but Martian Hunter personally visited him after the incident.
Rachel's concealment magic on the villa did not fool one of the world's most powerful mental beings.
However, Martian Manhunter still gave her face by first informing Lee Jung of his intention to visit through the Justice League's communications, and then choosing a location far from the villa, over the sea.
"While the Crime Syndicate has nothing to do with you, Emperor Gent has essentially exposed the Vitrumians to the world."
"Although we will help you, you can't hide it forever. The United Nations of Earth is not made up of ordinary people as you think. Back in the 1960s, they established a superhero organization that was directly responsible to the United Nations."
Hearing this, Li Zhen was quite surprised, because there was no related content in his past life memories of what the Martian Hunter said.
Perhaps it's a setting from the original comic, but Lee Jung isn't exactly a hardcore researcher.
Seeing Li Zhen's surprise, the Martian Hunter even handed him a document.
"Global Guardians? Composed of a superhero appointed by each member state."
While Li Zhen was looking down at the document, the Martian Hunter continued speaking.
"The main questioner appointed by the United Nations this time is Dr. Mist, the captain of the Global Guardians. His true identity is an African elf who has lived for more than 10,000 years. You don't want him to personally lead the team to bother you."
Batman's voice came through the earpiece that Martian Manhunter handed him.
"Doctor Mist's control over magic is almost on par with Doctor Fate's; Rachel's concealment magic is not enough for him."
"However, I have already compiled a complete script for you. You just need to recite the script when Dr. Mist asks you a question."
Li Zhen's gaze, as she flipped through the documents, fell upon the hero appointed by one of the United Nations member states.
"Will all of these global guardians participate in this questioning?"
Martian Manhunter raised an eyebrow, but since he didn't have eyebrows, he only raised one side of his dark green brow bone.
"Only representatives from five countries will participate."
Li Zhen handed the data book to the Mars Hunter and rubbed her face.
"Okay, I'll go. Just remember to let me know when the time comes."
The Martian hunter caught the data book that slipped from his chest, somewhat bewildered, and stared blankly at Li Zhenfei's departing figure.
Based on his impression of Jeongte from their brief previous contact, he thought Lee Jeong would be difficult to persuade.
Two days later, Li Zhen sat on the projection device that Nightwing had personally delivered.
However, he didn't dare put the projection device sent by the Bat family into Rachel's villa. Instead, he disassembled the shell of his own spaceship, reassembled it, and placed it at the bottom of the nearby sea.
While this wouldn't prevent Batman from finding out exactly where he lived, it was better than having a bunch of unnecessary listening devices in his house.
After putting on the device and settling into a comfortable position, Li Zhen's blue-glowing figure appeared in the conference room of the watchtower.
This was the first time he had ever sat down at the conference round table in the watchtower, albeit only via projector.
Looking back, it was clear that the Justice League was almost entirely present, while Aquaman and Wonder Woman, like him, participated via projection.
Soon, a projection screen appeared directly above the conference table.
There are six people on the screen, with a bald old black man sitting in the main position, who should be the so-called African elf who has lived for more than 10,000 years.
Dr. Mist first read out some routine terms, and then began to ask questions about the events that had occurred in Fawcett City a few days earlier.
The entire meeting was incredibly boring, filled with the same rigid bureaucratic jargon that Li Zhen had predicted, and the main respondents were basically Superman, Batman, and Cyborg.
The meeting mainly involved inquiring about the origins of the Crime Syndicate, or why those guys looked and had abilities so similar to the Justice League.
Li Zhen almost fell asleep the whole time.
Despite his theoretically superhuman stamina and energy, the boring meeting still made him sleepy.
Lee Jung only perked up slightly when the question of Emperor Jung's destruction of the Heavenly Eye Society and the killing of Amanda Waller was brought up.
Then, representatives of superheroes from five countries in the United Nations and Dr. Mist took turns asking Li Zhen questions.
Li Zhen remained expressionless as she answered fluently, perfectly following the script that Batman had prepared for her in advance.
Until the only Asian face among them spoke.
"Whether Vitrum actually exists is not of much concern to us; we simply hope to know your attitude toward Earth."
Li Zhen turned her head to look at the spirited questioner.
It was impossible to tell whether the other person was male with feminine features or female with masculine features; their appearance was extremely refined and sophisticated, and even by listening to their voice, it was difficult to discern their specific gender.
"This is—"
Dr. Mist raised his hand slightly and took the initiative to introduce himself to Li Zhen.
"This is Zhou Zanxi, a representative from China."
Li Zhen squinted at the name tag with the pinyin name on the other person's chest, and a smile suddenly appeared on her lips.
"Oh, I quite like your country's culture, Zhou—Zhou Zhanxie, Zhou Zhanxian?"
Zhou Zhanxie, who had initially maintained a completely business-like attitude, suddenly narrowed his eyes.
China sends superheroes on a rotation system, and she just happened to be in this batch serving at the United Nations.
But those Westerners could never pronounce her real name clearly; it wasn't even a simple matter of pronunciation.
This is a cultural issue.
Only a Chinese person, knowing both meanings of her name, can accurately pronounce those two syllables.
What's going on? Doesn't the UN say it's aliens?
She stared intently at Li Zhen, hoping to glean something from her micro-expressions, but Li Zhen's composure was impeccable, making it impossible for her to capture any useful information.
"Just call me Zhou Zhanxie."
Li Zhen nodded.
"I certainly have a friendly attitude towards Earth, and although I've never stated that I want to be a superhero, evil is not my choice either."
Zhou Zhanxie nearly crushed the armrest of the seat on the other side of the projection.
The word "evil" wasn't something she said casually, especially after she knew exactly how her name was pronounced.
Aliens — interesting.
"Very well, I think I have no problem with Mr. Gente."
The meeting then fell into a repetitive atmosphere of rehashing old arguments.
Dr. Mist also asked the Justice League at the end if they could vouch for Lee Jung's existence.
Batman nodded.
"In the Justice League's proposal to the United Nations to establish a branch, the Teen Titans, which we intend to set up in the United States, have decided to appoint Mr. Gentle as a lifetime instructor."
Li Zhen absentmindedly hummed, then looked up in surprise.
What did Batman just say?
