Chapter 261 A makeshift troupe

Back in his apartment, Jason's bone mask slowly peeled away, revealing a face full of doubt.

He casually tossed the mud-covered pistol onto the sofa, then looked at Li Zhen, who was leaning against the wall with a relaxed expression, his tone and eyes full of suspicion.

"Will this really work? What if Wilson makes a mistake? Wouldn't this all be a complete waste of time?"

Li Zhen loosened her hands, did not answer directly, and shook one finger.

"Why are you so nervous? I want to kill the mastermind even more than you do."

"But seriously, Wilson surprised me. Where does his acting talent come from?"

Jason spat, raised his arm and sniffed. The rain and mud had left him with a strong stench, which somehow activated some of the strange and wonderful superpowers he had previously retained.

The heat evaporated, the armor billowed, and the filth and odor were instantly cleaned.

"How would I know he was such a good actor? The Riddler didn't have any training before he debuted, but he's still a master actor from Gotham. Who can say for sure?"

It seems to be a response to Li Zhen's earlier statement that Gothamites are all dangerous elements. Jason, as a local, even made a rare self-deprecating joke at the end.

Li Zhen laughed twice.

"I was originally planning to have Rachel find any soul skilled in acting to possess his body."

Who would have thought that this bald, fat man who ran a dry cleaning shop would confidently tell Li Zhen and Jason that there was no need to do that, and that he could definitely play the victim.

Li Zhen couldn't help but sneer when she recalled Wilson's confident assurances.

Then he briefly discussed a script with Wilson and chose the location where the most new targets converged from the enemy's decoys that Jason had scanned before the second modification of the radar, as the theater.

Red Hood and Wilson staged a thrilling chase scene involving a serial killer.

"I must say, his victims acted much more naturally than your psychopathic killer."

Jason's face darkened upon hearing this, and he instinctively wanted to retort, but after recalling his own exaggerated lines, he swallowed his words back.

He had to admit that Wilson's terrified appearance, his desperate eyes, his trembling body, and his disheveled escape were exactly like those of a real victim being hunted down.

Jason even had a moment of doubt, wondering if Wilson hadn't completely cleared the virus from his body, or if his brain had been eaten away and he had lost his memory, and if he really thought he was being hunted down.

Looking back at myself, I really had a brain fart at the time. Not only did I cooperate with Li Zhen's outrageous plan, but I also delivered an extremely embarrassing line.

It's well known that people from the Bat family are accustomed to silence, and Jason, in particular, would kill a hundred people in one night without uttering a sound.

After a moment of silence, Jason was still somewhat worried.

"But this script is too hastily written. There's not much foreshadowing or detail. What if Wyman notices the flaws?"

"He was once the strategist of the Dark Elite, a figure who worked for Darkseid."

Li Zhen shook her head.

"To deal with a smart person, or rather, a guy who thinks he's smart, you don't need to devise overly complicated tactics."

"Trap schemes that are too complicated have too many intermediate steps, which not only makes them prone to errors, but also wastes too much of our time because of our painstaking planning."

After all, what they need now is speed, accuracy, and ruthlessness.

"Wyman never imagined that I would so recklessly trespass into Apokolips and actually manage to obtain a badge from Disad that could locate him."

That guy is most likely still observing from the shadows.

They assumed Jason was still being harassed by the superpowered group he controlled.

"Our goal now is to catch him off guard and bring Wilson directly into his field of vision."

Jason nodded, then couldn't help but ask again.

"But that guy is just an ordinary citizen after all. No matter how good his acting is, can he hold out once he really enters Wyman's lair? Even my bat database doesn't have any records of how many tricks Wyman has up his sleeve."

Jason gestured.

"Who knows, maybe he knows magic?"

"Don't worry, I'm not that careless."

Li Zhen tilted his head to the left, and then, to Jason's horrified gaze, Rachel's small head, draped in a gray hood, popped out from his neck.

The girl quickly scanned her surroundings, nodded to Jason, and then darted back inside.

"I've had Rachel secretly cast a soul-protecting spell on Wilson to prevent Wiman from using mind-reading or similar methods to spy on his thoughts."

The scene shifts to a dark and damp basement.

The air was filled with a faint smell of blood and disinfectant.

To make the performance more realistic, Wilson, who had actually lost a lot of blood, slowly opened his eyes.

His consciousness was still somewhat hazy, and his head was dizzy.

He subconsciously moved his whole body, and a dull pain came from his calf, making him frown.

He looked down and saw that his calf was wrapped in thick bandages, with faint traces of blood seeping through them. There were also many blood-stained cotton balls and medical equipment scattered around him.

Wilson tried to sit up and looked around for a while.

The basement was very simple, with only a worn-out single bed, a small table, and a few boxes piled with miscellaneous items.

The lighting was dim, with only a faint light bulb overhead emitting a yellowish glow.

His face showed just the right amount of confusion and vigilance, his eyes held a hint of fear, his lips trembled, and he whispered a low gasp.

Now it's time for a typical person to be suddenly rescued and wake up in an unfamiliar environment.

Wilson thought to himself.

"Is anyone there? Who's there?"

Wilson knew perfectly well that this was all part of a plan, but the expression on his face showed no sign of feigned sincerity.

As a die-hard Batman fan, he had fantasized more than once in his uneventful life over the past ten years about being an ordinary citizen caught in the eye of a supervillain's chaos, and then Batman would descend from the sky and rescue him.

Every night, after the dry cleaners closed, Wilson would linger in the empty shop for a while.

His balding Mediterranean head and slightly protruding beer belly did not make Wilson feel intimidated at this moment.

He used the dozens of washing machines around him as a camera lens, repeatedly reenacting various scenes of Batman rescuing him.

This was his own little hobby, and unexpectedly, it has now actually come in handy.

Even if Li Zhen and Jason racked their brains, they couldn't figure out how this seemingly ordinary dry cleaner owner had developed such outstanding acting skills.

A short while later, the wooden door at the top of the stairs creaked open.

A woman dressed in ordinary casual clothes and with a gentle face walked down.

Holding painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, and new bandages, with a gentle smile on her face, she walked step by step to the bedside, gently...

He gently pressed Wilson down as he tried to get up quickly, his voice soft and magnetic.

"Don't worry, you're safe now."

As she spoke, she carefully unwrapped the old bandage on Wilson's calf, which was stained with blood, her movements very skillful and precise.

"We saw you being chased by that motorcycle killer, so we found a way to distract him and rescue you."

"You were shot in the calf. Although the bullet has been removed, you still need to rest and avoid moving around too much."

The woman skillfully disinfected and treated Wilson's wound, then carefully wrapped it with a new bandage.

She then handed Wilson two bottles of pills and a glass of water.

Wilson did not answer.

He looked at the glass of water, swallowed hard, and a look of wariness appeared in his eyes.

"You? Who are you?"

The woman froze.

"We're just like you. We're people who awakened superpowers after the virus. Now there are a lot of clandestine intelligence channels in Gotham. Everyone knows that there's a psychopathic killer in a red helmet who's hunting down people like us, so we have to stick together for mutual support."

Wilson blankly accepted the medicine bottle and water glass, looking as if he was trying to process the information.

A few seconds later, Wilson looked up in confusion.

"I think I remember now, you guys found a car and ran over that damn pervert—but how come I remember seeing the guy driving get beaten to death? Wasn't he one of you?"

Li Zhen, who was monitoring Wilson's performance through Rachel's magic and telepathy from afar, immediately raised an eyebrow, once again impressed by the guy's superb acting skills.

No, this isn't acting anymore, this is practically a born spy.

Wilson's unexpected question left the woman stunned. She then turned her head away, and after a moment's hesitation, her voice was filled with sorrowful earnestness.

"Yes, John, John sacrificed himself."

When she turned her head, the woman's face was also impeccably covered in tears.

Li Zhen, who was supposed to be acting on her intuition, was somewhat dumbfounded.

Why does it feel like the other side is also a makeshift operation?

After this comparison, Wilson's talent is just too good; the opponents simply can't handle it.

At this moment, the black-robed man who had been hiding in the shadows slowly emerged from the darkness, nervously monitoring Wilson's reaction in the basement with his mental energy while wiping the cold sweat from his forehead.

"Did they see through it? They're manipulating too many dark entities at once, and they can't react to everything."
