Chapter 88 There is no perfection

"Boss, your account just received an email."

In the conference room of Lex Luthor Corporation, Luthor's secretary suddenly knocked on the door and walked to the head of the room, whispering something in Lex Luthor's ear.

Luther frowned.

Generally, he doesn't like to be disturbed during meetings.

But Eve Terschmarkt was handpicked by Luther; she was an extremely intelligent woman who rarely did anything foolish.

Therefore, the importance of this email clearly far exceeds that of the meeting that Luther chaired at the company.

After rising to offer a brief apology to the other LexCorp shareholders, Luther followed Eve out of the conference room.

"What email?"

"From the government, Boss, I think it still needs your personal review."

Luther took the tablet from Eve, tapped it to open it, and after reading the first line of the email, he looked up and glanced around.

He then instructed Eve to inform the shareholders in the conference room.

"Cancel today's meeting. Tell them I have more important urgent business to attend to, and also arrange a plane for me to go to New York."

Ignoring Eve's troubled expression, Luther grabbed the tablet and quickly left.

He first returned to his private office, then walked to the bookshelf and activated the hidden elevator concealed behind it.

The elevator carried Luther all the way to the fifteenth basement level of the Lexcorp complex.

In reality, the Lex Group's publicly disclosed architectural plans only include five underground floors.

Only Luther himself knew the correct way to access the other hidden underground levels, and each level was different; he was the only one who knew all the routes.

In this layer, there are only five researchers who were lured in by Luther with high salaries or other means.

Their main research projects involve the genes of various superhuman or non-human creatures that were defeated by Metropolis's Superman in the past.

Originally, even Luther himself didn't take this project very seriously.

Even if Lex Luthor discovers the secrets of these guys' genes, he'll be able to defeat them, but it's unlikely he'll achieve the effect Luthor wants.

If it weren't for the fact that the fifteenth underground level still holds a small portion of the genetic samples of the parasitic demon and Zod, the Kryptonian general who came from outer space, given Luthor's personality, he probably would have canceled the project on this level long ago.

However, something happened a few days ago that revitalized the gene project here.

Although Luther did not obtain the specific details of what happened from the surveillance footage near the scene of the incident.

Lexcorp, however, collected biological samples of hundreds of alien races from several nearby blocks.

Metropolis is, after all, Luthor's territory. Even if Batman were to hack into and delete the nearby surveillance footage beforehand, it would still be a problem.

But the walls of more than ten streets and even dozens of high-rise buildings were covered with the blood of various aliens, as if a mural shop had been opened.

Even without finding the slightest trace of surveillance, Luther could deduce that there was definitely a superhuman-like figure present at the time.

Because Superman usually doesn't leave such horrific traces of killing.

Superman isn't completely non-violent; he will also kill when aliens invade Earth.

But Superman doesn't have such a brutal fighting style.

Under the heat field, most of the flesh and bones were evaporated completely. Even if a little remained, it would be impossible for it to turn into a paint mess.

Obtaining such a rich collection of gene samples at once not only gives the research project on the fifteenth underground level valuable material to preserve.

Those researchers who were originally listless every day were now as energetic as if they had been injected with chicken blood.

After obtaining these abundant samples, a research report with new findings would be sent to Luther's private email almost every half hour.

Of course, Luther barely looked at it.

Corrosive bodily fluids, radiation-resistant skin, and invisible light vision are not very appealing to Luther.

What he really wanted was a sample of the guy who had defeated hundreds of unknown alien creatures.

Luthor had a premonition that the hidden, unknown entity would be a key factor in helping him defeat Superman.

Of course, Luther is now down here for other reasons.

How is your research progressing?

Seeing that the investor had come down to inquire about the progress, four of the five researchers looked up and began to report to Luther in a flurry of voices.

Although they had sent a detailed update report to Luther's email address just twenty minutes earlier, spurred by the money and the endless stream of research inspiration, they didn't care whether Luther looked down on them.

"We have successfully integrated more than twenty newly extracted genes into the original embryos cultivated using parasite and Kryptonian genes."

One of the youngest male researchers, with messy curly hair and freckles on his nose, was particularly excited.

"Although not all biological samples can be used to extract genetic abilities that can be accepted by the parasite, it is estimated that at least thirty more can be extracted from the remaining unstudied samples."

The researcher was gesticulating wildly.

"It will be incredibly powerful, possessing over a hundred superpowers; it's practically a culmination of human imagination, a perfect being!"

Luther quietly watched the researcher who, being young, didn't quite know how to control his emotions.

"Stimulate the embryo to grow, and then remove it."

"What?"

The young researcher was taken aback.

Then an incredulous look appeared on his face, and he subconsciously refuted his sugar daddy.

"Why?! It's not finished yet! It's not mature enough! It hasn't reached perfection!"

Several other slightly older researchers tried to pull this arrogant young man away.

But he seemed to have gone mad and abandoned his colleagues with whom he spent every day.

"Why would you do something so stupid! Luther! You shouldn't be the kind of person who takes the goose that lays golden eggs and makes soup out of it!"

Luther ignored the noise and instead frowned, raising his arm to glance at his watch.

He strode up to the young researcher, leaning forward slightly until their faces were almost touching.

The researcher, who was about to continue roaring, was intimidated by Luther's aura and instinctively leaned back to avoid him, taking several steps back.

Luther looked at him coldly.

"You have no idea that there is no such thing as perfection in this world, and you've wasted my time—"

But before Luther could finish speaking, the middle-aged researcher who had been silent from the beginning, just looking down at the electron microscope, and who had gotten up and left when things got noisy later, returned.

He was carrying a transparent glass jar, the jar's exterior of which was fitted with metal devices for continuously emitting a special magnetic field.

Right in the center of the glass jar was the embryo that could have gained even more superpowers.

He handed the jar to Luther.

Luther gave him an approving look, took the jar, and turned to leave the underground laboratory without hesitation.

After Luther left, the young man who had been intimidated by Luther slipped and fell to the ground in pain, frantically pulling at his already messy curly hair with both hands.

"Why take it away in advance? We don't have any more Zod samples."

The composed middle-aged researcher glanced at him.

"With Superman around, we have as many Kryptonian gene samples as we need, not to mention we already have a sample of the parasite—our experiments can be halted at any time until we obtain a third sample of equal value."

Some young people don't understand.

"What could possibly compare to the value of the former two?"

The middle-aged researcher gave him a mocking look and pointed to his temple.

"That guy who beat hundreds of invading alien lifeforms to a pulp with just his fists and feet, did you really think those alien samples LexCorp found just fell from the sky?"
