Tokyo: Magical Girl Shatters My Dream of Going Public

Chapter 39: Ropeless Climbing, Have You Trained Before?

Kanzaki followed the path marked by the drone and silently approached the outskirts of the apartment complex.

But problems soon arose.

Perhaps the previous reports of "ghosts" to the police had an effect.

Even though it was already 1 a.m., the security in this upscale community was still surprisingly tight.

The reception area or front desk on the first floor of each building is guarded by security guards, making it impossible for ordinary people to enter.

All the backdoors are under very strict electronic surveillance.

The doors used are all bank-grade security doors.

Even more surprisingly, the property management company somehow acquired guard dogs that patrolled the area in irregular, crisscrossing routes, leaving virtually no blind spots.

Kanzaki hid behind the bushes in the green belt, calmly observing through the gaps in the branches and leaves.

As a top special operations captain, he excels at infiltration, penetration, and breakthrough.

But all of those require the support of professional equipment.

And now, he has nothing in his hands... except for the combat suit he's wearing that defies common sense.

Forcibly breaking into a building or picking the lock is not difficult; the difficulty lies in how to completely avoid or disable the dense network of electronic eyes and the keen-nosed guard dogs, achieving true "silence."

He lay in the shadows for nearly ten minutes, his brain racing, simulating several plans, all of which were rejected.

The risk is too high, and the possibility of exposure is extremely high.

Just then, Kurokawa's voice came through the earpiece, calm yet tinged with a hint of mockery:

"Captain Kanzaki, do you have a stomachache? Or are you contemplating life? I've seen you squatting behind that bush for almost ten minutes."

Kanzaki ignored the other person's teasing and gave a concise, low-pitched report.

"Security is tight. There is extensive electronic surveillance and patrol dogs. Without specialized equipment, silent infiltration is extremely difficult."

"I see it." Kurokawa's voice remained calm, as if he had expected it. "Look up, look at the nine o'clock direction, the exterior wall of that building."

Kanzaki looked in the direction he was told.

Through the shared view of the drone and his own eyes, he saw the exterior of the apartment building, with the air conditioning unit platforms of each floor neatly arranged, as well as some metal brackets and pipes for maintenance.

"Ropeless climbing," Kurokawa's voice came through, "have you been trained?"

Kanzaki was taken aback.

He looked up again at the glass curtain wall of the towering, forty- or fifty-story building that seemed to reach into the night sky.

Ropeless climbing?

Or is it this kind of almost vertical, smooth-surfaced modern high-rise building?

Even if he had the most professional climbing tools and safety ropes, it would be impossible for him to do it!

This is blatant suicide!

But the next second, he stopped.

The equipment he's using now isn't "normal" to begin with.

"How exactly do we do it?" he asked in a deep voice, without questioning the possibility.

"Remove your current [Puppet Control Plugin] and replace it with the [Tentacle Regeneration Plugin] with the tentacle pattern," Kurokawa instructed.

Kanzaki immediately executed it.

With a flick of his finger along the edge of the slot on the side of the magic battery, he pulled out the black card and almost simultaneously forcefully inserted another card.

"Click."

A sound of perfect harmony rang out.

hum-

The shared drone's overhead view vanished instantly.

Instead, a completely new and extremely strange bodily sensation was introduced.

He could clearly "feel" that something was "growing" out below his shoulder blades.

It wasn't a physical entity, but rather four pale blue, semi-transparent tentacles made of energy!

Each one was about the thickness of a billiard ball, extending from his back and about three meters long.

Under his conscious control, it moved flexibly and slowly in the air, as if it were his own limbs.

The most amazing thing is that controlling them feels as natural and precise as controlling your own arm.

With a slight thought, his tentacles can perform complex actions such as grasping, wrapping, and whipping, with power and speed far exceeding the limits of his physical body.

This thing...

This immediately reminded him of the flesh-and-blood monster he had encountered at the experimental base.

With this thing... climbing really seems possible!

"Looks like you're adapting quickly," Kurokawa's voice came through. "Now, choose a building. Three options, see how lucky you are."

Kanzaki's gaze swept over the three apartment buildings in front of him.

Which building should we choose?

Just then, the automatic gate of the parking lot in the distance slowly rose.

A black luxury van drove in silently, followed the internal driveway, and stopped directly in front of the apartment building in the middle.

The car door slid open.

A slender, fully covered female figure walked quickly down the stairs.

A wide-brimmed baseball cap, large sunglasses, and a medical mask completely covered his face.

She kept her head down, walked hurriedly, swiped her card at the door, and quickly slipped into the lobby.

It's obvious that this is an artist returning home late at night.

Kanzaki's gaze unconsciously followed it for a moment.

Kurokawa's voice came through the earpiece again, very confidently:

"Looks like we don't need to choose anymore, let's just pick that one."

"What's the reason?" Kanzaki asked in a low voice, not blindly listening to Kurokawa's words.

"The residents who called the police three times before... were all women." Kurokawa paused for half a second. "Moreover, the women who called the police were scattered across three different buildings. I even suspect that the magical vengeful spirit has some ability to fly and can move around on the rooftops of the three buildings."

Kanzaki's gaze swept across the almost level rooftops of the three buildings under the night sky.

The distance isn't far; for a flying monster, that's certainly possible.

"Is it possible that the other party is moving through underground tunnels?" He subconsciously raised another possibility from the perspective of infiltration.

"I've seen the original building plans for this area. The underground only contained separate parking lots and infrastructure, with no interconnected pathways. That possibility can be ruled out."

Kanzaki nodded, his last doubts dispelled.

This inference is the most reasonable.

Moreover, they wanted to blend into the crowd in the building, avoiding being seen by cameras.

Aside from underground, the roof is the most likely location.

"receive."

He no longer hesitated.

Taking a deep breath, the four dark blue energy tentacles on his back suddenly sprang out, like giant pythons with life, their front ends instantly hardening and deforming to form a climbing structure with suction cups and barbs.

Swish!

A tentacle shot out like lightning, precisely gripping the edge of an air conditioner outdoor unit platform on the fourth-floor exterior wall. Another tentacle followed closely behind, hooking onto a metal drain pipe bracket higher up.

Kanzaki bent his legs slightly and exerted force.

The tentacles contracted, generating a tremendous pulling force, and he was lifted up lightly and quickly!

At first, my movements were a bit clumsy, and I needed to get used to the coordination between my tentacles and my body.

But after climbing just five floors, the feeling of complete control, as if it were an extension of one's own arm, was completely achieved.

The tentacles extend, grasp, and alternately exert force, with the rhythm becoming faster and smoother.

His figure rose rapidly outside the smooth glass curtain wall, like a black phantom defying gravity.

Kurokawa's voice suddenly cut in through the earpiece, urging, "You need to hurry. You have thirty seconds. The security team downstairs with dogs is coming around to the back of this building."

Kanzaki's eyes narrowed.

The four tentacles on its back suddenly burst forth with an even stronger dark blue light, and tiny energy ripples continuously erupted from their gripping points.

Its ascent speed suddenly increased, almost turning into a vertical upward afterimage!

Six seconds.

Five seconds.

The last six floors!

three seconds.

He could even faintly hear patrol dogs barking downstairs.

With one last burst of strength, the tentacles yanked him upwards!

Kanzaki used the momentum to curl up, performed a clean somersault, and landed steadily on the waterproof and heat-insulating layer of the 45th floor rooftop.

The tentacles retracted instantly, the energy aura dimmed, and they quietly disappeared beneath the suit.

Almost simultaneously, the patrol team downstairs looked up at the top floor, found nothing, and continued their patrol.

The infiltration was accomplished with ease.

But the next second, a slight, stabbing headache suddenly came from my temples.

coming.

Kanzaki slowly raised his head, his gaze sweeping across the empty rooftop.

Then, the frame freezes.

Not far ahead, on the low eaves of the wall near the edge of the building, a strange shadow was crouching.

Its main outline is blurred, seemingly blending into the night.

But the most eye-catching feature is the pair of "wings" that unfold behind it.

It wasn't feathers or flesh, but a bizarre structure made up of countless yellowed, torn, crumpled and unfolded postcards, haphazardly glued together, making a faint "rustling" sound in the night wind.

Seemingly sensing the arrival of the uninvited guest, the strange figure turned its "head" very slowly...

Or rather, it turned around the part connected to the body.

An absurdly long, unevenly thick, grayish-white "neck," resembling that of a mollusk, silently rose from its crouching body and twisted.

Kanzaki slowly raised his head, following the increasingly high neck.

The neck stretched at least twenty meters, its surface glistening uncomfortably wet in the moonlight, twisting and reaching towards Kanzaki.

At the top of this terrifying neck, there was no mouth, nose, or hair.

only one.

A huge, round eye covered in bloodshot veins!

That eye was fixed on Kanzaki, the pale moonlight on the rooftop and Kanzaki's dark figure reflected deep in its pupil.

The air seemed to freeze.

Kanzaki slowly exhaled the breath he had been holding, his voice, though kept extremely low beneath his mask, clearly transmitted back to his earpiece.

"President, you were right. I've found my target."

In a building bustling with people, the rooftop is indeed the only blind spot...
