Tokyo Detective Chronicles

Chapter 63 Fierce Battle

In the ordinary world, there is no distinction between day and night; time almost stands still here.

But the biological instincts remain: when tired, one should sleep; when hungry, one should eat.

This is the fourth day that Fushimi Iori has spent in this world. Judging from the movement of the three black hands on his watch, only about two hours and forty minutes have passed in the real world.

Previously, Fushimi had planned to resolve the two troubles entrusted to him by the river god as soon as possible, close the passage, and then return to the mortal world.

But Rin Miyazawa's condition was indeed terrible.

Although the wound on my thigh has been brought under control, my high fever has just subsided, and I am still very weak.

She tried to activate [Reproduction] once, but as soon as she managed to sketch a faint image, her face turned pale, cold sweat poured down her forehead, and she almost fainted again.

"It's okay, we can wait."

Fushimi made a decision; in his previously formulated plan, Miyazawa Rin's abilities were indispensable.

"It just so happens that I also need to prepare some things."

Miyazawa Rin breathed a sigh of relief, then looked a little embarrassed: "I'm sorry... I dragged you down."

"Eat something." Fushimi pushed the water and food towards him, his tone flat.

In the three days that followed.

Fushimi had observed the so-called trouble several times, and it turned out to be much more difficult than he had imagined.

Miyazawa Rin's recovery was faster than expected; the talisman was surprisingly effective, with necrotic tissue at the wound completely sloughed off and new granulation tissue growing at a visible rate.

On the morning of the third day, she was even able to stand up on her own and walk slowly while holding onto the wall.

Kohoshino seemed happier than anyone else about this.

She circled around Miyazawa Rin, her little face full of smiles, her dirty hair swinging with each movement.

He would reach out to help her every now and then, but he was afraid of hurting her, so his hand waved hesitantly in the air. In the end, he just carefully tugged at the hem of Miyazawa Rin's clothes.

"It's okay." Miyazawa Rin smiled and took her small hand.

Fushimi spent most of his time preparing talismans.

He retrieved all the materials from the shadows; since the worktable wasn't big enough, he simply cleared out his desk.

A blank sheet of paper was laid out, cinnabar was ground, a brush was dipped in the cinnabar, and intricate runes were drawn stroke by stroke.

Hoshino lay on the table, watching intently without blinking.

Sometimes, after Fushimi finishes drawing a piece, she will reach out her little hand and carefully touch the corner of the paper, then quickly pull it back, as if she has done something naughty, and secretly peek at Fushimi's reaction.

Fushimi usually pretended not to see it.

Later, she even had the leisure to teach Hoshino how to make talismans... The little girl was quite talented in drawing.

The afternoon of the fourth day.

Miyazawa Rin walked to Fushimi's side and said softly, "I've almost recovered."

Fushimi put down his pen and looked up.

The woman stood in the dim light, staring straight at him. Her face was still a little pale, but her eyes had regained their clarity.

……

It was once a sacrificial site for the Creation Cult...

The ruins are broken and charred beams and pillars leaning into the sand like the exposed ribs of a dead beast. Large patches of dark red stains are on the broken walls, oxidized and blackened by time.

The air here becomes viscous.

Countless eyes are watching from the shadows, and countless mouths are shouting in silence.

Fushimi stepped onto the sand.

The sand made a soft, crunching sound underfoot.

One step, two steps. The sand was unusually soft, like stepping on the skin of some living thing. Each step left a clear footprint, but the footprints would slowly disappear after a few seconds.

He walked to the edge of the ruins and stopped.

As was his custom, Fushimi took a handful of talismans from his person and threw them into the air; the white papers fell like withered leaves...

Where once the heart of the altar was now buried under sand, something is gently undulating...

Soon, blood began to seep from the sand.

The ground trembled violently.

It was a deformed being forcibly fused together from the flesh and soul of twelve humans. It was about three meters tall, with a slender body and a surface covered with honeycomb-like holes, from which a viscous black liquid was seeping out.

Twelve children's faces emerged from all directions of the monster.

Fushimi stared intently at the edge of the ruins, his face expressionless.

Twenty-four arms extend from different parts of the torso, each holding a different weapon... some are broken ribs, some are half a spine, and some are still beating hearts.

"Hiss... Ahhh—!"

All twelve mouths opened simultaneously, emitting a sharp hiss.

Even with the talisman used to block it, Fushimi still felt a violent dizziness, as if his eardrums were about to be pierced.

He stepped forward, his right hand making a grasping motion, and a sharp ice spear hovered in the air.

Clearly, he was not prepared for close combat against a monster of this size, and could only keep conjuring ice spears from the air to shoot at the monster.

But this monster has twelve heads, each thinking its own thoughts, and its twenty-four arms effortlessly block Fushimi's attacks, leaving no blind spots in its field of vision.

They are always on guard against potential dangers in their surroundings.

At that moment, it hurled a heart toward Fushimi, which exploded instantly. Fushimi narrowly avoided the splattering blood by using his shadow.

He reached into his robes with his left hand, and a bell appeared in his palm.

The bell is covered with runes, and the clapper is a small finger bone.

He shook it gently.

"jingle--"

The clear sound of bells echoed, clashing with the monster's roar.

The monster's movements paused noticeably.

Then the expressions on all twelve faces contorted simultaneously. It seemed to be enraged, and its twenty-four arms swung, whistling as they slammed down on Fushimi!

"Tsk."

Fushimi clicked his tongue and quickly retreated.

Twenty-four arms crashed down like a storm, each impact creating a deep crater in the sand and sending sand flying everywhere.

Using the acceleration and blurring of his shadow, Fushimi darted and weaved through the gaps in his arms, his movements so fast that only afterimages remained.

They'll be worn down if this continues.

Fushimi dodged while observing the monster's movement patterns.

Its attack pattern is very simple, relying purely on physical strength... but its movement pattern is noticeably sluggish. Its twenty-four arms are arranged in pairs, each performing different tasks, but their coordination is very poor, and they often interfere with each other.

If you launch an attack directly, you will definitely be blocked.

Therefore, he needed to first draw the attention of all the monster's heads to himself...

Fushimi rang the bell again; he had extensive experience dealing with this type of monster.

"jingle--!"

The bell's sound had a mind-disrupting effect; the monster's movements paused again, its twenty-four arms briefly became chaotic, and then a more intense rage erupted...

It charged straight at him.

Using his ability to move around, the terrain, and the monsters' abilities, he lured the monster to the spot where he had previously scattered the talismans. Due to the anger aroused by the bell, it was completely unaware of what was happening beneath its feet.

Fushimi kicked off the ground.

The monster's arm came after him from behind, and bone spikes almost pierced his back.

At the last moment, Fushimi rolled to the side, his arm grazing Fushimi's shoulder as he crashed to the ground with a loud thud, creating a shallow crater.

He stood up and slapped the talisman on the paper with his right hand!

"Imprisonment!"

Dozens of talismans activated their binding force simultaneously, and a large number of golden chains rose from the ground one after another, relentlessly and without regard to cost, saturatingly wrapping around the monster's arms, torso, and even head.

At this distance, it simply cannot respond in a timely manner.

The deformed monster roared and struggled, the chains creaking.

Fushimi stopped at the edge of the altar, breathing heavily.

But he did not rest.

Quickly form hand seals while chanting mantras.

Three enormous ice pillars rose from the ground, blocking the monster's path...

The shadows surged beneath their feet, transforming into dozens of black tentacles that coiled around the monster's body, further reinforcing the confinement.

With the right hand loosely clenched, the airflow begins to swirl.

The breeze initially stirred the sand, but quickly turned into a howling wind that swirled around the icicles.

The three forces activated simultaneously, trapping the monster in place, rendering it completely immobile.

The monster roared angrily from all twelve mouths at the same time.

More black liquid gushed from the holes in the torso. The liquid was highly corrosive and dripped onto the sand, emitting a pungent white smoke. The icicles and golden chains hissed.

They'll be out of trouble soon.

Fushimi took a deep breath and took out a stack of talisman paper from his pocket, about fifty or so sheets.

He raised both hands.

The talismans scattered into the air as if drawn by a force, but instead of falling, they hovered around him under the control of the Tengu's power, slowly rotating.

The runes on the paper lit up one by one, their spiritual light intertwining and making the slightly dim ruins appear bizarre and surreal.

Fushimi formed hand seals, his fingertips tracing intricate patterns.

The talisman started moving.

One after another, like weary birds returning to their nests, they gathered in front of him.

They were connected end to end, fitting together, piecing together and combining in the air, finally forming a dragon made of talisman paper, with more than fifty talisman paper layers upon layers surrounding his body.

"go."

Fushimi murmured.

The talisman shot out with a whoosh, drawing a dazzling trajectory in the air before heading straight for the monster in the center of the altar!

The first talisman was pasted onto the monster's torso.

The second one, the third one...

A massive amount of talisman paper covered every corner of the monster's body, completely enveloping it.

"Exorcise!"

The words fell.

"laugh--!!!"

The blazing white light engulfed the monster!

Wherever the talismanic light that slays evil spirits reaches, the black flesh melts and evaporates like wax, revealing the pale, twisted bones beneath.

All twelve mouths opened at the same time, and the hiss turned into an extremely shrill scream.

But he's not dead yet.

This thing has an incredibly tenacious vitality.

Fushimi frowned, seemingly getting impatient.

He raised his right hand, palm up.

The water vapor in the air quickly condensed, forming an ice gun about two meters long above the palm.

The remaining dozen or so talismans flew up automatically and stuck to the surface of the ice spear one by one. The runes lit up one by one, giving it multiple attributes such as warding off evil, penetrating, and exploding.

Fushimi gripped the butt of the gun.

Stepping, twisting the waist, throwing, accelerated by the spiraling airflow.

A streak of light pierced the sky.

"puff--!!!"

The ice spear pierced the deformed heart with precision, emerging from the monster's back, accompanied by large amounts of black blood and bits of flesh. The immense momentum pinned it to the broken wall behind the altar.

The gun vibrated and emitted a low hum.

The monster's movements suddenly stopped.

The expressions on the twelve faces froze, the empty eye sockets and the holes in the torsos stopped leaking liquid, and the writhing flesh gradually stiffened.

Even after reaching this point, it still didn't die...

Such severe burns and penetrating wounds would be fatal to ordinary creatures, but they were insufficient for this monster forcibly fused from resentment and flesh.

Fushimi made a hand seal and uttered a single word:

"burst."

The talisman wrapping the ice spear simultaneously emitted a blinding white light.

"BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM—!!!"

The series of explosions drowned out everything.

Its body swelled and twisted like an overinflated balloon, and finally exploded into pieces with a deafening roar.

Chunks of flesh and blood fell like rain, hitting the sand with muffled "thuds".

Black blood soaked into the sand, and the air was filled with a strong smell of burning and fish.

The aftershocks of the explosion swept outwards, raising dust and obscuring visibility.

The dust settled slowly.

"Cough cough..."

He coughed a few times, spitting out a mouthful of bloody saliva; his psionic energy was somewhat depleted.

In the distance, in a safe corner, Miyazawa Rin released Hoshino, whom she had been protecting in her arms.

Her eyes twitched as she stared at the charred mark in the center of the altar, recalling the incredibly intense battle just now, and she gasped for breath countless times... She then looked at Fushimi, her lips moving as if she wanted to say something.

In the Special Affairs Division, monsters of this caliber require at least a level one squad to work together to minimize casualties.

"Isn't this guy ridiculously strong?"

"By the way, wasn't the method exactly the same as what happened on the train back then?"

Just then, the air around Miyazawa Rin distorted.

The azure light converged and condensed into a blurry phantom... a projection of the River God of Bailuchuan.

His hands were still bound by chains, but the expression on his face was more lively than before.

The old man turned his face to the side, with a slight upturn at the corners of his mouth.

"Well done, son... I was just thinking of coming to help you, but I didn't expect you to handle it so cleanly and efficiently. You're truly remarkable."

His voice rang out, carrying a hint of approval.

"But if you had been just a fraction of a second slower, we could have had a whole bunch of old, weak, sick, and disabled people here..."

Fu looked at Him expressionlessly.

Miyazawa Rin took a half step back, pulled Hoshino closer to Fushimi, her face clearly saying, "Stay away from this weird old man who appeared out of nowhere."

The river god seemed amused by her reaction, and the projection trembled slightly.

Fushimi ignored him; he had more important things to do next. He looked at Miyazawa Rin.

She immediately understood what Fushimi meant.
