Primordial Era: Reborn Kong Xuan, Steady Cultivation
Chapter 13 The Idea of Earning Merit
At this moment, Kong Xuan, with his mid-stage Golden Immortal cultivation, has already begun to touch upon and comprehend the omnipresent power of the laws in the primordial world.
To reach the Taiyi Golden Immortal level, one must refine the five elements within one's chest, harmonize Yin and Yang, and deeply integrate with the laws. The Daluo Golden Immortal level, on the other hand, requires profound understanding and mastery of at least one or several laws.
At this level, what determines the level of one's cultivation is no longer the amount of spiritual energy accumulated, but rather the depth of one's understanding of the laws of the Great Dao and the subtlety of their application.
Reincarnation is like a basic "resource," which is necessary, but it is no longer the only, or even the most important, bottleneck.
The demand for "advanced resources" that can directly assist in comprehending laws, tempering the primordial spirit, and consolidating the foundation of the Dao will gradually become more prominent.
The essence of "Dan Dao" is to purify, blend, and sublimate the essence of various spiritual herbs through special methods and rules, so as to create "elixirs" with more concentrated and powerful effects, and even with unique Daoist charm.
Such skills will only be urgently needed and gradually developed when the essence of heaven and earth gradually becomes relatively scarce due to the passage of time and over-harvesting, or when higher requirements are placed on the "quality" and "specialization" of the efficacy of medicinal herbs.
The current prehistoric world is clearly not yet at that stage.
While everyone was still squandering the abundant gifts of the beginning of time, naturally no one bothered to study how to carefully manage and extract every bit of potential from the elixir.
Having understood this, Kong Xuan felt a sense of clarity.
Although I can only use these medicinal herbs roughly for the time being, my efforts are not in vain.
Firstly, it serves to replenish the treasury for unforeseen needs. Secondly, when one's cultivation level is higher, or when the Dao of Alchemy flourishes and one has the opportunity to learn the relevant methods, the value of these carefully collected materials will increase many times over.
However, Kong Xuan would never consider using fragments of the Jade Disc of Creation to deduce a complete alchemical system out of thin air.
Not to mention the enormous amount of Heavenly Dao merit required to create a branch of the Great Dao from scratch, the preciousness of merit itself would not allow him to consume it in such a way.
His fundamental principle is that his need for merit is bottomless.
Although the Five-Colored Divine Light has deduced the subsequent path of tempering with the innate Yin-Yang and Five Elements Qi, his ambitions go far beyond that.
Although the Five-Colored Divine Light is said to be able to sweep away and overcome anything, it can only work within the Five Elements; otherwise, its power will be greatly reduced.
Therefore, in the future, it is necessary to integrate Yin and Yang, and achieve the goal of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements, so that nothing can be cleaned.
The Five Elements Radiance Scripture currently only reaches the peak of the Taiyi Golden Immortal realm. To reach the Great Luo realm or even the higher Hunyuan realm, the cultivation method must continue to advance, and each step requires countless merits.
"Alas, the merits and virtues of Heaven have endless uses, but the way to obtain them is truly difficult." Kong Xuan couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
He took stock of himself and realized that all the small inventions and creations he had made in his past life that allowed him to "shortcut" his way to gain initial merit had already been exhausted on the island of his birth.
If similar things are repeated now, Heaven will be moved, but the merit bestowed will probably be negligible, or there may be no response at all.
If one were to imitate ordinary cultivators and accumulate merit little by little through long years of good deeds and regulating the earth's veins, the efficiency would be too low, and it would be like trying to quench a thirst with water from afar.
After much deliberation, a relatively feasible destination gradually emerged in his mind, yet one that presented both risks and opportunities: the boundless sea of blood.
As for establishing a religion and spreading the Dharma, and recruiting many disciples, it is certainly one of the great ways to gain merit and good fortune, but Kong Xuan respectfully declined to do so.
Once a sect is established, it forms deep karmic ties with countless disciples. The rise and fall of the sect and the grudges among its disciples are all tied to the sect, leading to endless troubles and making it difficult to find peace.
The Three Pure Ones served as a cautionary tale. Originally of the same origin and with deep affection, they were likened to "red flowers, white lotus roots, and green lotus leaves." However, once they each established their own great sects, due to differences in doctrine and infighting among their disciples, especially in the vortex of the Investiture of the Gods, they eventually turned against each other, becoming enemies. Even the sages ended up being controlled by Heaven and unable to easily enter the mortal world.
If even the Three Pure Ones, with their profound background and cultivation, are like this, how could I, with my meager cultivation, dare to easily step into this quagmire of cause and effect?
As for joining the soon-to-be-established Celestial Court or the future Demon Court, while in the early stages one can share in the Heavenly Dao's merits and fortune by "following the dragon" in the initial establishment of power, this is tantamount to voluntarily jumping into one of the most terrifying blood and flesh millstones in the history of the Primordial World, the Great Tribulation of the Lich King.
In this calamity, apart from the saints who reside high above the heavens, who can guarantee a safe retreat?
Even powerful figures like Di Jun and Tai Yi, who possessed terrifying treasures like the Hetu Luoshu and the Chaos Bell, were virtually invincible below the level of saints when they joined forces. Yet, they still perished in the end, their true spirits barely surviving.
Kong Xuan wanted to avoid this devastating calamity that was destined to be horrific and sweep across the world, so he dared not get involved.
In contrast, the journey through the Blood Sea, though not without its challenges, offered a more controllable opportunity for "speculation."
The Blood Sea was formed from the navel of the great god Pangu. It is a place where endless filth, slaughter, and vengeful spirits gather in the primordial world. It is the most yin and evil place in the world, and also the place where endless karma and cause and effect are deposited.
If one can purify some of the vengeful spirits and resolve some of their karma, the resulting merit from the Heavenly Way will surely be considerable.
More importantly, this is the first lecture at Zixiao Palace, and the Lord of the Blood Sea, Styx Ancestor, has most likely already gone to listen to the teachings.
While they are away from home, sneak into the edge of the Blood Sea, proceed with caution, and purify some of the surrounding resentment of the dead. The risk is relatively low, but the merit gained may far exceed ordinary accumulation.
"But I wonder if those scriptures for guiding spirits, passed down through the ages, will truly be effective in this primordial sea of blood?"
Kong Xuan pondered to himself.
He had indeed heard of some methods for liberating the souls of the deceased and purifying resentment in his previous life when he was a mortal.
When visiting temples and Taoist monasteries, one might occasionally hear the Diamond Sutra or the Sutra of Salvation. At the time, one would simply take it as ordinary incense smoke and forget it after hearing it.
But now that he has become a Golden Immortal, his mind is clear and he can see even the smallest speck of dust. All his past experiences, what he heard and saw, even the most casual glance or the most blurry noise, are now recalled with perfect clarity and detail. He can also roughly restore the words and syllables of those scriptures.
However, those were ultimately teachings passed down among mortals after the immortals and gods disappeared, which could appease ordinary souls or have some effect through the power of faith and incense.
But what kind of place is the Blood Sea?
That is the final place where the turbid energy in the body of the Great God Pangu, the endless killing, sins, resentment and unwillingness since the beginning of time have finally gathered and settled!
The vengeful spirits within, having been tainted and eroded by the endless sea of blood over countless years, have long since become filled with malevolent energy and unwavering obsession, almost demonic beings.
Ordinary scriptures, when faced with such overwhelming malevolent energy and karmic force, are probably like a gentle breeze brushing a mountain ridge, unable to shake it in the slightest.
"However, under the laws of Heaven, all methods may have commonalities."
The fact that those scriptures have been passed down through generations and recited by all beings may in itself align with some of the most basic principles of 'purification,' 'soothing,' and 'guidance.'
Even if its effect is minimal, it's still a starting point, a direction.
More importantly, if one can convert the Blood Sea without relying on the precious deductive power of the Creation Jade Disc fragments, but solely with these readily available scriptures, the meaning would be entirely different.
"It's worth a try," Kong Xuan decided.
Even if the final result is not good, or even if it has no effect at all, it is just a matter of spending some time to understand and ponder.
If it succeeds, even if it's only initially effective, it means he can gain a lot of Heavenly Dao merits in a short period of time, and its long-term value may be no less than that of a Primordial Spiritual Treasure.
