Huang Lingyue stood at the entrance of the photography studio, carrying an insulated bag.

She wore a dark gray sweater today, and her long hair was draped over her shoulders, which made her face look even whiter.

She stepped forward, scrutinized Lin Ran for a while, and asked curiously, "What happened to your face?"

Lin Ran touched her face and looked in the mirror. To cover up the dividing line, she had applied a bit too much makeup, making her look excessively white, which did look a little strange.

"I had some makeup on for filming."

Huang Lingyue nodded, didn't ask any more questions, and handed over the insulated bag directly.

Lin Ran's lips twitched, but he didn't take it, his tone tinged with regret: "I just ate, although it was a bit rushed, but at least I had something to eat."

Huang Lingyue pouted: "So, did I do all that for nothing?"

Just as Lin Ran was about to speak, Ye Li appeared from behind. She had been eavesdropping behind the monitor, and this was the perfect opportunity.

"Boss lady!"

She greeted Huang Lingyue warmly, but her eyes were fixed on the insulated bag: "What's this?"

"I made my own lunch."

Ye Li's eyes lit up, and she turned to look at Lin Ran with an incredibly innocent expression: "Boss, didn't you already have lunch?"

"Um."

"So, this meal..."

Lin Ran looked at Huang Lingyue, a hint of difficulty on her face, and said in a slightly conciliatory tone, "How about we give it to Ye Li? She's been filming on set all day, busy since six in the morning, and hasn't even had a chance to drink water."

Huang Lingyue was stunned for a moment, clearly not expecting this turn of events.

Ye Li was also stunned; she really didn't expect her boss to pick up on this so quickly.

Lin Ran continued, his tone incredibly sincere: "As the boss, I can't bear to see my employees go hungry. Ye Li usually works very hard, so this meal is a good opportunity to win her over."

Huang Lingyue looked at him, then at Ye Li.

Ye Li stood to the side, staring longingly at the insulated bag, her desire no longer concealed.

She had already eaten lunch, so this little bit of food held no appeal for her; what she longed for was a call from her crush.

Huang Lingyue was silent for two seconds, then handed over the insulated bag: "Here you go."

Ye Li accepted it, her face beaming with delight: "Thank you, boss lady!"

Huang Lingyue nodded, but showed no intention of leaving.

Ye Li hugged the insulated bag, looked at Huang Lingyue, then at Lin Ran, her eyes full of question marks.

Lin Ran remained expressionless: "Eat it, don't let it get cold."

Ye Li: "...Now?"

"What else? They made it themselves, and they even take the lunchbox back after they've finished eating."

Ye Li's expression visibly froze for a moment.

But she had no choice but to open the insulated bag and lay out three lunch boxes: braised pork, stir-fried vegetables, and seaweed and egg drop soup.

It looked really good; the braised pork was a bright red, the green vegetables were vibrant and appealing, and the soup was still steaming.

Huang Lingyue stood to the side watching, her face expressionless, but her eyes held a hint of anticipation.

Ye Li picked up her chopsticks, took a piece of braised pork, and chewed it.

She was a little puzzled as to how a dish could be made so that the meat was meat and the soup was soup, with the flavors of the meat and soup completely separated, but it was still edible.

She looked up at Huang Lingyue and smiled, "Delicious!"

Huang Lingyue's lips curled up slightly.

Then Ye Li picked up a piece of green vegetable with her chopsticks and chewed it. Her expression became a little strange, first confused, then suspicious.

No, why does the romaine lettuce smell like lavender?

Lin Ran almost burst out laughing when he saw Ye Li tugging at his clothes and sniffing everywhere.

Huang Lingyue looked at her: "What's wrong?"

Ye Li swallowed with difficulty, trying to maintain a smile: "N-nothing, it's just... this vegetable has a rather unique flavor."

"Special?" Huang Lingyue frowned slightly. "I followed the recipe and made stir-fried seasonal vegetables."

Ye Li took a deep breath, picked up another piece of green vegetable with her chopsticks, and forced herself to eat it.

Then came the third bite.

The fourth bite.

Ye Li was in agony, but she still had to wear a smile on her face.

Finally, the plate of vegetables was empty.

Ye Li looked at the bowl of soup, a hint of despair flashing in her eyes.

"There's also soup," Huang Lingyue said.

Ye Li picked up the bowl and took a sip.

Sweet.

The seaweed and egg drop soup was surprisingly sweet.

She couldn't hold back her emotions any longer.

Three words flashed before my eyes: arsenic

Huang Lingyue looked at her: "Isn't it good?"

"Delicious!" Ye Li almost said through gritted teeth. "Especially delicious! This is the first time I've ever had such a...unique seaweed and egg drop soup!"

She finished the soup in one gulp and put down the bowl.

Huang Lingyue nodded, looking quite satisfied. She glanced at Lin Ran, who was filming, and said, "Then I'll be going."

Ye Li quickly waved her hand, "Thank you, boss lady!"

Huang Lingyue turned around, walked out of the photography studio, and her figure disappeared at the door.

The moment the door closed, Ye Li slumped into her chair, her expression instantly crumbling.

Half an hour later, Lin Ran came down from the stage, looking like he was still not satisfied.

Floral shirt, silver chain, hair combed back, revealing forehead.

He felt he was a born actor.

In those few minutes, he wasn't Lin Ran, nor Momo's boss, nor anyone's boyfriend or ex-boyfriend. He was a thoroughly bad person, cheating people out of money and sex, without any guilt or burden, saying whatever he wanted and laughing however he wanted.

That feeling was strange, but also very enjoyable.

He realized that bad guys could act with such impunity, and he finally understood why there were so many villains in reality.

"Boss," Ye Li's voice came, sounding somewhat unsteady.

"Can you explain to me why that vegetable smells like laundry detergent?"

Lin Ran didn't say anything.

"And why is that soup sweet? Why is the seaweed and egg drop soup sweet?"

Lin Ran remained silent.

If looks could kill, he would probably be torn to pieces by Ye Li by now.

"You knew all along?"

Lin Ran nodded.

"Boss, tell me the truth, were you secretly laughing to yourself over there?"

Lin Ran withdrew the smile from his lips, his expression unchanged: "No."

Ye Li stared at him for three seconds, her eyes clearly showing disbelief, but she didn't pursue the matter because she had more important things to do.

She took out her phone, unlocked it, and handed it to Lin Ran.

"Boss, you promised me you'd get his phone number for me."

This time, Lin Ran readily agreed: "Okay, wait."

He started typing.

Ye Li leaned closer to take a look, but Lin Ran blocked her with his arm. "Don't rush."

Two minutes later, my phone vibrated.

Lin Ran returned the phone to her.

Ye Li looked down and saw a new reply in the chat interface—a phone number.

Her eyes widened, as if they were about to pop out.

"Holy crap, boss," her voice trembled, "how did you get it?"

Lin Ran didn't answer, but simply scrolled up the chat history and then turned the screen towards her.

Ye Li leaned closer to take a look.

The dialogue went like this:

Ye Li: Brother, you're so handsome, can I have your phone number?

Male actor: You have no updates on Momo, no face, I won't give it to you, I'm a looks-obsessed person.

Ye Li: My face is having an allergic reaction lately, so I won't be taking pictures of my face.

Male actor: Ugly is ugly, stop arguing, get lost.

Lin Ran: But I'm sassy

Male actor: Please save this phone number.
