Chapter 113 The Workplace Bible
"My boss once said something to me that I still find very helpful."
Xia Chan sat on the conference table in room 108, legs crossed, holding a cup of milk tea in her hand, her expression utterly inscrutable.
Across from her sat several new freshmen, all staring at her with eager anticipation, their thirst for knowledge palpable.
The cicada cleared its throat:
"If you say a female college student works as a bunny girl at a KTV, you would definitely think she is indecent. But if you say she works at a KTV at night and studies hard during the day, you would think she is very hardworking."
"If you feel tired as soon as you start work, your boss will definitely think you lack ambition. But if you say you're not feeling well but still insist on coming to work, then your boss will think you love your job, and then they'll promote you, give you a raise, and give you stock options, right?"
Xia Chan looked at the group of people nodding repeatedly and was quite satisfied: "So—"
"You must take sick leave when you are not sick."
"Why, Sister Xia Chan?"
"If you're really sick, then you have to come to work properly. Bringing medicine or whatever you don't need, you have to let your boss see that you're so sick but still insist on working."
She took a sip of her milk tea and continued to explain, "Actually, what you're doing is called paid sick leave. You can take sick leave after you've recovered at the company, so you can go out and have fun."
"Is that clear now?"
Xia Chan said smugly, "How about that? I told you you could learn real things from your Xia Chan sister, right?"
However, after waiting for a long time, there was no reaction from the crowd, and several people were giving her meaningful glances, which puzzled her.
Xia Chan frowned: "Why do you all look at me like that?"
"Understood." A soft voice came from behind.
Xia Chan froze, slowly turned around, and found Lin Ran standing behind her, looking at her expressionlessly.
Xia Chan nearly spilled her milk tea: "Boss...boss? When did you get here?"
Lin Ran did not answer the question.
He simply looked at her, his eyes as calm as a stagnant pool.
"Paid sick leave, right?"
Xia Chan swallowed.
"You'll take sick leave after you've fully recovered, right?"
The cicada shrank its neck.
"You're not feeling well but you still insist on going to work, is it so the boss will promote you, give you a raise, and give you stock options?"
The cicadas had almost shrunk under the table.
Lin Ran nodded: "I'll write up what you've summarized into a document and share it in the group so everyone can learn from it."
Xia Chan's face turned pale.
However, Lin Ran didn't dwell on it any longer and instead went to sit down in his seat.
"How's the company registration process going?"
Xia Chan paused for a moment, then quickly crawled out from under the table.
"Almost there! All the materials have been submitted, and we're just waiting for approval. If all goes well, we should be able to get the certificate by the weekend."
Lin Ran nodded and didn't say anything more, and Xia Chan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Just then, Lin Ran's phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID and frowned slightly.
I don't want to answer.
He put his phone on vibrate and put it back in his pocket.
It had only been quiet for two seconds when my phone started vibrating again.
Lin Ran sighed and answered the call.
"Feed? Teacher Qin?"
"Come to the meeting right now. I'll be waiting for you in my office."
"Hey? Teacher Qin? Your signal isn't very good. I'm out of town right now, I might not make it in time..."
"Enough nonsense! I just got back from Dean Wang's. I know you're at school right now. Come over for a meeting immediately, or I'll contact your parents!"
Lin Ran: "..."
"Okay, I'll be right there."
After hanging up the phone, Lin Ran slammed it on the table: "Damn it."
You wait until my nephew and niece are born. If it weren't for the fear of her contacting Lin Feng, he would have already dealt with that woman.
And then there's Wang Lijun, that disrespectful old man, how come he's still gossiping everywhere at his age?
He has a ton of things to do himself, how could he possibly attend some stupid class officer meeting?
That's absolutely infuriating.
Lin Ran left the house grumbling.
Conference room on the third floor of the School of Economics office building.
When Lin Ran pushed open the door, there were already thirty or forty people sitting inside.
He glanced around and didn't recognize anyone except He Yuwei and Sun Xiaoyu, but he could roughly guess that they were class officers from other classes in the 10 cohort of the School of Economics.
A few people glanced up at him, then looked down again and went about their business.
No one greeted him, and no one asked who he was.
He Yuwei and Sun Xiaoyu looked surprised, both wondering why their elusive class monitor had decided to attend the meeting today.
Lin Ran didn't mind. He found a corner seat, leaned back in his chair, and prepared to leave after the meeting.
There were people talking in the middle of the table, their voices quite loud, as if they were afraid others wouldn't hear them.
"Yuwei, have you seen Lin Ran from your class recently?"
Lin Ran's ears twitched.
The speaker was a boy, wearing a neatly ironed shirt and with his hair gelled; he was clearly the kind of person who paid a lot of attention to his appearance.
He Yuwei looked up at Lin Ran and saw that Lin Ran shook his head at her. She was stunned for a moment.
"I've never seen him before. I've only seen him a few times since the start of the semester."
The boy slapped his thigh and raised his voice a few decibels: "I knew it! What's the use of a class monitor like this? He does nothing, just occupies the position without doing any work, making everyone else suffer."
He paused, looked at He Yuwei, and his tone suddenly softened:
"Yuwei, your class is so lucky to have you. The Youth League Secretary does the work of the class monitor and also has to clean up his messes. It's too hard for him."
Sun Xiaoyu whispered from the side, "Actually, it's okay. If there are any issues in the class, we can discuss them together."
The boy immediately chimed in, "Isn't that because you guys are so capable? If it were anyone else, things would have been in chaos long ago."
"Let me tell you, being a class monitor means taking responsibility. Since the start of the semester, I haven't missed a single class meeting, and I've attended every class officer meeting. Need help from the class monitor? I'm always here. Unlike some people who are class monitors in name only, you never even see them."
"I'm not bragging, but I've managed to handle all those troublemakers in our class. I treated them to meals and drinks, and now they're all obedient. Being a class monitor requires skill; what's the use of just being a figurehead?"
Lin Ran leaned against the corner, his face expressionless.
He glanced at the boy and noticed that his eyes kept glancing towards He Yuwei while he was talking.
Damn it, you dead simp.
You can pursue He Yuwei, fine, but why are you stepping on me?
He glanced at He Yuwei and Sun Xiaoyu again.
He Yuwei wore a polite smile, but her eyes were unfocused, clearly lost in thought. Sun Xiaoyu, sitting next to her, was engrossed in her phone, also showing little interest in what was being said.
Lin Ran picked up the kettle on the table, poured a glass of water, and then secretly flicked some earwax into the glass.
Then he stood up, walked through several rows of chairs, and went to the boy's side: "Dude, I've been watching you talk for ages, are you thirsty?"
Damn it, my grandma always said that if you eat earwax, you'll become mute. I'll poison you to death.
The boy paused for a moment, then looked up at him: "Uh... I don't think I've seen you before. Which class are you in?"
"It's nothing, I'm just here to sit in on the proceedings."
The boy didn't think much of it, picked up his water glass and took a sip: "Thanks, I didn't expect you to be such a nice person."
