American Farmers: Facing a Cutoff at the Start
Chapter 64 Financial Advisor
Fett stared at the pale blue light screen, his mind racing with calculations.
Option one: Act out a sympathy video? While it might improve your acting skills and temporarily garner sympathy, going head-to-head with a behemoth like the IRS is like an egg hitting a rock.
"The IRS is the third largest armed force in the United States," and "Death and taxes are inevitable."
These two sentences are not just for show.
Their farm was already in dire straits; if these people were to keep a close watch on it, it would be adding insult to injury, and they would never be able to live a peaceful life again.
Option two is even more absurd. While kicking people out is certainly satisfying, the gun proficiency skill is also quite good.
But what use is gun proficiency if everyone's in prison working on sewing machines? You can't even touch a gun in prison!
When his gaze fell on option three, Fett's brow twitched slightly.
"Is there something fishy going on behind the scenes?"
The tree has only been sold for a few days? This inspection came too quickly and too deliberately; it really has a sinister feel to it.
These two don't seem to have any good intentions.
Looking at the farm that had instantly turned into chaos, Fett took a deep breath, slowly clenched his fist, and silently made a decision.
"Hey! What are you doing!"
Seeing that the customers had all run away, old Frank rushed forward to pull the bald man away.
"Don't drive all my guests away!"
The bald man sidestepped old Frank's hand and coldly warned:
"Sir, please watch your behavior. Obstructing law enforcement is a serious offense and can lead to imprisonment."
"Dad!"
Fett quickly stepped forward, grabbed old Frank's arm, and pulled him back:
"Don't act impulsively!"
"With those two standing there, we definitely can't do our business right now."
"Instead of confronting them head-on, let's resolve this issue first."
Old Frank was panting heavily, his chest heaving violently, clearly very angry. But looking at his son's determined eyes, he suppressed his anger, glared fiercely at the two inspectors, and said nothing more.
Fett turned around and looked at the two inspectors, his face expressionless.
"Alright, since you want to investigate, then investigate."
"But it's too cold here, and it's not convenient to look at the account books."
"Let's go inside, we'll investigate slowly."
The bald man glanced at Fett, seemingly surprised by his cooperation, but still nodded, maintaining his arrogant demeanor.
"Can."
"But don't try anything funny. Just cooperate with our investigation."
Ignoring his threat, Fett stepped aside and gestured for them to proceed, leading the two toward the main house.
As he passed Lyra, Fett gently patted her shoulder and whispered:
"Don't worry, take care of everyone, I'll handle them."
Lyra bit her lip and nodded worriedly as she watched Fett lead the two uninvited guests into the house.
As soon as you enter the house, you are greeted by a wave of warmth.
Fett asked the two to sit down at the dining table in the living room, and then went to the kitchen to fetch two glasses of water and brought them up.
"What are your names?"
"What exactly do you two want to investigate?"
Fett sat down opposite them, his fingers interlaced on the table, looking at them calmly.
Old Frank sat to the side, glaring angrily.
The bald man didn't touch the glass of water; instead, he took a stack of documents from his bag and spread them on the table.
"I am Richard, a senior inspector, and this is my colleague, Tom."
The young man named Tom had a square face and looked somewhat kind.
"We received a report that your farm has recently had a large number of undeclared cash transactions."
Richard tapped the table, his tone curt:
"Now, please show us all your sales records and ledgers from previous years."
"Also, bring out all the cash you received; we need to count it."
Fett keenly noticed this:
Previous years' sales records and ledgers?
Why didn't you check before, and now you're coming to our door?
He didn't directly retort to Richard, but instead turned to look at the young man beside him:
"Mr. Tom, I'd like to ask you two, the report you received concerns about our cash transactions for selling trees these past few days, is that correct?"
Tom hesitated for a moment, then nodded: "Yes, mainly about the recent large cash flows."
That's strange.
Fett shrugged, looking puzzled:
"Since the report concerns events from the last two days, is it normal for Mr. Richard to immediately demand to examine all our past accounting records?"
Tom was taken aback and subconsciously glanced at Richard beside him. He also felt that Richard's behavior today was a bit unusual and too aggressive.
He swallowed hard, and hesitated before speaking:
"Well... normally, for specific reports, we only need to check the accounts for the relevant time period. However..."
He glanced at Richard's increasingly dark face, and his voice trailed off:
"Mr. Richard probably wanted to investigate more thoroughly, in order to... to prevent any other omissions."
"To prevent omissions?" Fett sneered.
"Mr. Richard, what is it? Please speak plainly."
Fett picked up his water glass and rubbed the inside. "We're just a small farm. We only sell trees once a year, and no one has ever come to check on us before."
He raised his eyelids and looked directly into Richard's eyes:
"You didn't even get a break on the weekend, coming over so early in the morning."
"Is this some kind of 'finding problems even when there aren't any' approach?!"
"They must have received some particularly urgent instructions?"
"I wonder which important person is so concerned about our small business?"
Richard was taken aback by the question, his eyes instinctively darting away for a moment before he straightened his face and slammed his hand on the table in a fit of anger:
"I'm a senior inspector! I can investigate however I want! That's my right!"
"We received a tip-off! It has nothing to do with any important figures!"
"I'm warning you, saying things like that can have legal consequences!"
"Stop talking nonsense! Hand over the ledgers right now! Or else I'll..."
Fett remained seated calmly in his chair and said unhurriedly:
"I was just saying it casually, Mr. Richard, why are you so agitated?"
"If you two are truly acting in accordance with the rules, then let's proceed according to the regulations."
"Richard!"
Tom, who was standing nearby, seemed to sense something was wrong and couldn't help but speak up to remind them, "We're just doing a normal check, it's best to follow the rules."
Hearing Tom's words, Richard's expression turned grim, but he restrained himself somewhat. Fett already understood the situation.
Sure enough, someone was sabotaging things behind the scenes, and Richard had obviously received a bribe or some instructions, while Tom was completely unaware of it.
The person who can command the IRS is no small fry.
He smiled, leaned back, and spoke with greater ease:
"Since Mr. Richard is being so dutiful, I can't refuse to cooperate."
He took out his phone and waved it:
"However, we are just ordinary farmers. It's better to leave professional matters to professionals."
"To avoid any misunderstanding, I'd like to have my financial advisor speak with you."
