Guyver Armor: KAP-2

Chapter 18 Entering the Depths of the Ruins Base

Kamino Tsubasa breathed a sigh of relief, confirming in his heart that there was no mistake.

"That's right, the secret passage built by the resistance organization in the original story is indeed hidden here."

He knew perfectly well the origins of this passage.

That was five years ago, at the headquarters of the Kronos organization in Arizona.

At that time, the twelfth Beast God, Richard Geo, learned about the "Unit-Kap" clone and secretly prepared a plan that could overturn the entire world.

Its deeply hidden and terrifying plot was accidentally discovered by Professor Shinichiro Yamamura, who was then the base's second chief scientist.

In order to stop Geo's madness and save the world from crisis, Professor Yamamura made a shocking decision—to launch an armed rebellion.

Under Professor Yamamura's persuasive explanation, the four "experiments" who should have been destroyed—the "Beast God Prototypes" that Kronos had specially cultivated in the early stages to create the Beast God Body exclusive to Geo—unhesitatingly chose to follow him on the path of rebellion.

The rebellion was timed precisely when Richard Geo was in a comatose state during his Beast God Body induction period. They planned to kill Geo when he was at his weakest, ending the crisis at its root.

However, the plan was eventually exposed.

Just as they defeated the beastmen guarding the gate and were about to break into Geo's synthesis room, several beast gods rushed to the scene, and a fierce battle broke out instantly.

Although the four prototypes of the Beast God Generals all possessed considerable combat power, they still had an insurmountable gap compared to the real Beast God Generals.

Furthermore, the lack of the crucial core organ, the "Beast God Crystal," prevented them from sustaining combat, and the rebellion ultimately ended in a crushing defeat.

Three of the four Beast God prototypes died on the spot, and Professor Yamamura also sacrificed himself while covering the evacuation.

Only the least injured prototype, Murakami Masaki, managed to escape from Kronos's inescapable trap by feigning death, thanks to the desperate cover provided by the others and his familiarity with the base's terrain. He became the sole survivor of the rebellion.

Although Professor Yamamura failed, his legacy has been carried on by researchers such as Yoshio Odagiri and Toshiaki Hayami, who are now at the Menakamiyama base.

They infiltrated the organization, maintaining secret contact with Masaki Murakami, who had escaped years ago, and silently awaited the opportunity to strike back.

This underground secret passage was prepared for this purpose.

Based on an underground maglev train track that had been abandoned more than a decade ago, they spent several years secretly building this passage that connects directly to the interior of the Mena Shinsan base.

As a time traveler who knows the future, Tsubasa Kamino's original plan was to establish contact with the resistance organization by contacting Masaki Murakami, who is now disguised as a freelance journalist.

However, the whereabouts of that beast god in the early stages of the trial were too mysterious, as elusive as a ghost, and impossible to find in the short term.

The opportunity was fleeting, and the approaching enemy was imminent. He had no time to wait and could only rely on his memory to come to him.

Recalling this point, Tsubasa Kamino took a deep breath, suppressed the surging thoughts in his heart, and, holding onto the cold metal handrail, slowly disappeared into the dark space below the well.

He casually dragged the stone cover over his head back to its original position and put it back on. The cold touch spread from his fingertips to his limbs and bones, and the crisp sound of his footsteps echoed in the long well.

After descending to the bottom of the well and passing through a narrow, dark passage, the view suddenly opened up before us.

The dim emergency lights flickered, illuminating a huge underground space large enough to hold hundreds of people.

"drop--"

The overhead monitor detected the unusual activity, and a red warning light suddenly lit up.

Kamino Tsubasa, however, appeared confident and unhurriedly took out a roll of banner from his backpack and slowly unfurled it in front of the monitor camera.

On the banner, four powerful characters stood out prominently in the dim light, gleaming with a bright glow—

"Murakami Masaki!"

To ensure the other party could see it clearly, Tsubasa Kamino even made a version with a glow-in-the-dark feature.

He adjusted his posture to make his silhouette appear tall and mysterious in the surveillance footage.

"I apologize, Mr. Murakami, whom I have never met before."

He glanced at the blurry reflection in the camera lens, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Since I can't find you in person, I'll just have to borrow your name for now..."

On the other end of the camera, in the monitoring room at the bottom floor of the heritage site.

The glow of the fluorescent screen reflected in Toshiaki Hayami's bloodshot eyes. He clenched his fists tightly, his voice trembling with excitement: "Great! It's someone sent by Mr. Murakami!"

A young researcher wearing glasses next to him pushed up his slipping glasses, his face also filled with unbelievable elation:

"This passage was secretly opened up by us with great effort; no one except our core members knows about the entrance! Anyone who can find this place must be one of Mr. Murakami's trusted confidants!"

"Is the time for a counterattack finally coming..." another middle-aged researcher with gray hair murmured to himself, his eyes reddening.

"Quiet down!"

Hayami Toshiaki took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, but his tone was urgent. "Kawaki, quickly inform Director Odaki! Tell him that Mr. Murakami's messenger has arrived!"

"Also," he paused, glancing at the blurry figure of Tsubasa Shinno on the monitor screen, and added, "Immediately arrange for a two-person team with a level-two spare case to go to the secret passage to provide backup. Keep communication open and be careful!"

The researchers responded enthusiastically, and the monitoring room instantly filled with the sounds of keystrokes and communications. Long-suppressed emotions were ignited by the sudden surge of hope, and everyone's face beamed with anticipation for the future.

Half an hour later, the heavy sound of rolling wheels came from the depths of the quiet passage.

Hidden inside a huge metal equipment box, Tsubasa Kanno was pushed by two seemingly fully armed guards as he swaggered into the ruins base.

The inside of the box was lined with a thin layer of cushioning. He slowed his breathing and his ears clearly picked up the sounds from the outside world: the buzzing sound of the huge, heavy alloy gate slowly closing made his eardrums vibrate.

The equipment box was pushed through a long corridor, with emergency lights on both sides casting a dim yellow glow.

Through the gaps in the enclosure, one could occasionally glimpse the mottled scratches on the walls and the exposed pipes. In addition to the smell of disinfectant, there was also a faint metallic rust smell in the air.

They moved slowly forward, passing through a network of sky corridors, and boarded a huge central elevator.

Finally, he was led into a spacious laboratory—the Relics Research Department, located at the very bottom of the base.

At this moment, the top of the metal equipment case was finally opened, and Tsubasa Kamino calmly stood up, straightened his slightly wrinkled clothes, and quickly scanned the room:

A huge diagram of the ruins' structure was laid out on the central control panel, surrounded by various sophisticated instruments, with complex data and waveforms flashing on the screens.

Several researchers in white coats were gathered around, led by a middle-aged man in a white coat with a thin face, who was the director of the Relics Research Department of the base—Yoshio Oda.
