Chapter 437 Child of Calamity

Several earth dragon elders also gathered around, their eyes fixed on the vessel in the midwife's arms, their expressions solemn. They were all old earth dragons who had lived for tens of thousands of years and had experienced countless things. As soon as they saw the midwife's expression, they knew that something must have happened!

The midwife gently shook her head, sighed, and said in a heavy tone, "The clan leader is not in immediate danger, but he has been overexerted and has fallen into a deep sleep. He needs to rest and recuperate."

Hearing that Di Qiu was out of danger, Jiang Chen felt a little relieved, but then he frowned again and pressed, "What about the cub? Why can't everyone see the cub? Just tell me what's wrong!"

The other elders nodded in agreement, their voices filled with urgency: "Yes, Midwife, please tell us what's wrong. Don't hide anything from us so we can prepare accordingly."

The midwife's face grew increasingly grim. She slowly lowered her head, looking at the vessel in her arms, her hands trembling slightly, as if she were holding something extremely terrifying.

After a long while, she took a deep breath, raised her head, and looked firmly at Jiang Chen and the elders. She said in a heavy tone, "Elders, Young Master Jiang, please be prepared. The cub... is somewhat different."

Different?

The ominous premonition in Jiang Chen and the elders grew stronger, and Jiang Chen's voice even began to tremble slightly: "Different? What's different? Is there something wrong with the cub?"

The midwife did not answer, but slowly opened the vessel in her arms.

The vessel was covered with a soft animal hide. As the hide was slowly lifted, a faint purplish-black halo emanated from the vessel. Within that halo was a trace of eerie negative energy, as well as a faint hint of dragon might.

Jiang Chen and several elders crowded around, their eyes fixed on the cub in the vessel, wanting to see what was so special about it.

But when they saw what the cub looked like, everyone froze instantly. The expressions on their faces changed from confusion to shock, and finally, they were completely replaced by fear.

Inside the vessel lay a tiny cub, small in size, only about the size of a palm, yet its appearance was extremely bizarre.

It has snow-white fur and a body shape like a lamb, but its head is a human face with clear eyebrows and eyes, yet it carries a strange and cold feeling, without any trace of a baby's innocence.

The strangest thing is that its eyes are not on its face, but under its armpits. A pair of pitch-black eyes gleam with an eerie light, staring intently at everyone, exuding an evil and coldness that is inconsistent with its age.

Its mouth is small, but it is full of sharp teeth, like a tiger's, gleaming coldly, as if it could bite off a person's finger in one bite.

Its limbs were not the claws of an earth dragon, but rather human-like claws, small and exquisite, yet equally sharp, with nails gleaming with a jet-black luster, containing a strong negative energy.

Just then, as if sensing everyone's gaze, the cub let out another roar—still a baby's cry, soft and weak, yet carrying a chilling majesty and an eerie coldness.

This appearance and this aura are not those of a young earth dragon, nor even any known creature on this planet!

Jiang Chen shuddered, staggering back a step, his face filled with disbelief, muttering to himself, "What... what is this? This isn't my child, this isn't..."

He couldn't accept that his and Di Qiu's child would have such a bizarre appearance; it was simply a monster!

The elders of the earth dragon were also shocked, their bodies trembling slightly, their eyes filled with fear and disbelief.

One of the elderly elders, who had lived for tens of thousands of years and had seen countless strange creatures, had never seen such a bizarre cub. He stared intently at the cub in the vessel, his lips trembling, his voice filled with extreme fear and trembling.

"This...this is a catastrophe!!!"

These words, like a thunderclap, instantly resounded outside the cave. The sound, filled with despair and fear, pierced through the gale and reached the ears of every earth dragon.

Upon hearing this, the earth dragons in the distance erupted in chaos, their faces filled with fear and confusion as they began to discuss the matter amongst themselves.

"Disaster? What disaster?"

"What exactly does the cub look like? Why did the elders say it was a calamity?"

"Could the cubs be ominous creatures, bringing annihilation to our Earth Dragon clan?"

Whispers rose and fell, and fear and unease were written on the faces of all the earth dragons. Their original joy had vanished without a trace, replaced by deep anxiety.

Jiang Chen stood frozen in place, staring intently at the cub in the vessel, his mind blank, the elder's words "This is a calamity" echoing in his ears, his heart filled with despair and pain.

He didn't know why his and Di Qiu's child looked like this, or why it was called a calamity.

All he knew was that Di Qiu had almost paid the ultimate price to give birth to this child, but now, this child was being treated as a calamity.

Several earth dragon elders, their faces pale, huddled together, whispering amongst themselves, their voices filled with fear and solemnity.

"Elder, this cub is too strange. It's neither an earth dragon nor any known creature. Its appearance resembles the ferocious beast, the roe deer, described in ancient texts—a symbol of calamity!"

"Yes! Ancient texts describe the roe deer as having the body of a sheep and the face of a human, with eyes under its armpits, tiger teeth and human claws, and a voice like that of an infant. It is a ferocious beast that eats people, leaving nothing but desolation and bringing disaster wherever it goes!"

"How could the clan leader give birth to such a child? What happened? Could it be that the negative energy of the evil god's world has corrupted the cub's bloodline?"

"Regardless of the reason, this cub is a calamity. If we keep it, it will likely bring annihilation to our Earth Dragon race, and may even affect the safety of the entire planet!"

"But it is, after all, the chieftain's child, born at the cost of the chieftain's life. How can we bring ourselves to kill it?"

The discussion grew increasingly heated, and the elders split into two factions. One faction advocated eliminating the cub to prevent future troubles, while the other faction advocated keeping the cub, since it was the chieftain's flesh and blood and the bloodline of the earth dragon clan.

Jiang Chen remained frozen in place, tears streaming down his face once more. He looked at the cub in the vessel and thought of Di Qiu, who was sleeping in the cave, and his heart was filled with endless struggle.

On one side is his child with Di Qiu, and on the other side is the safety of the Earth Dragon Clan. What should he choose?

The wind continued to howl, and a chilling aura enveloped the entire habitat of the earth dragon clan, filling everyone's hearts with fear, unease, and struggle.

No one knows what kind of disaster this strange cub will bring to the earth dragon race and to this wildly growing planet.

No one knows what choice Jiang Chen and the Earth Dragon Clan will make.

Only the cub lying in the vessel continued to cry like an infant, its dark eyes under its armpits staring intently at the crowd, flashing with an eerie and cold light, as if foreshadowing a great calamity about to befall them.

Inside the cave, Di Qiu remained fast asleep. She was unaware that the child she had risked her life to give birth to was seen as a calamity by her clan, nor did she know that the Earth Dragon Clan was about to face an unprecedented crisis.

Jiang Chen slowly stepped forward, his hand trembling as he reached out to touch the cub in the vessel, but he was stopped by an elder standing beside him as soon as he did.

"Young Master Jiang, you mustn't!" the elder said gravely. "This cub is a calamity; you mustn't touch it. If you are corrupted by its aura, your life may be in danger!"

Jiang Chen's hand froze in mid-air, his eyes filled with pain and despair. He looked at the cub in the vessel and murmured to himself, "No, it's not a calamity, it's my child, my and Di Qiu's child..."
