Chapter 346 Dakang Protects the Company, Dead Man Shocks Sha Ruijin
Representative Zheng's hand froze on the edge of the table. He reached for the paper, but Li Dakang pressed it down.
"Don't touch it. Keep the original on file. If you want to see it, look for the red stamp."
The person who had been standing in the legal team slowly sat back down, and no one mentioned the complaint again.
Representative Zheng stared at the two red stamps, his lips moved a few times, but he didn't utter a complete sentence.
Two officers from the Economic Crime Investigation Department circled around behind him.
"Zheng, come with us."
His legs went weak when he was lifted up, and the hem of his gray plaid suit swept over the water glass on the table, spilling tea onto the agreement and blurring the words "confirmation of overseas claims".
The people were taken out, and the legal team was also asked to leave. Only two company representatives remained in the room.
The person in charge of Jingzhou Heavy Machinery stood up, his hands still trembling and his eyes red.
"Secretary Li...we..."
"Sit down." Li Dakang waved his hand, his tone softening. "Salaries will be paid as usual, and equipment payments will continue. I have people watching the account; no one can freeze it."
The man from Handong Special Materials wiped his face and held back for a long time.
"More than three thousand workers are waiting for their meals. I really thought we weren't going to make it through today."
"The sky won't fall down." Li Dakang put the receipt back into his briefcase. "Handong's enterprises will be protected by Handong itself."
The person in charge of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission came over and lowered their voice.
"Secretary Li, this terrorism-related receipt...did the provincial procuratorate really issue it?"
"Ji Changming approved it overnight." Li Dakang fastened his briefcase. "The money from the coastal fund went through seven roundabout routes overseas, so it was already tainted. Put this label on them, freeze the agreement first, and then dismantle it slowly later."
"That's a brilliant move."
"It's not that they're arrogant, it's that they forced me to." Li Dakang walked towards the door. "They used my court to freeze my business. If I don't respond, my workers will be starving this afternoon."
The people in the venue gradually dispersed. The two company representatives were asked to give statements. In the banquet hall, the stack of damp agreements remained spread out on the long table.
Just as Li Dakang was about to leave, someone called out to him from behind.
"Secretary Li, please wait."
He turned around.
He was the former financial director of Jingzhou Heavy Machinery, surnamed Yang, in his early sixties, with gray hair. He had been sitting in the corner and hadn't said much. The old man was clutching an old envelope in his hand, made of kraft paper, with frayed edges.
"Mr. Yang, is there anything else?"
The old man looked around and handed over the envelope.
"Secretary Li, there's something I've had for over twenty years."
Li Dakang didn't answer immediately; he glanced at the envelope first. The sealant had long since dried and cracked, the paper was yellowed, and there wasn't a single word on it.
"What is this?"
"Back when the old Haizhou factory went bankrupt and the warehouse was sealed off, a pile of waste paper came out. Everyone else burned it as garbage, but I was quick and kept one." The old man's hands trembled. "I can't explain why I kept it, I just felt that the piece of paper was strange."
"Something's not right?"
"The numbers don't match." General Manager Yang lowered his voice. "Back then, I was just a junior accountant, and I managed the freight reconciliation for a while. The goods on that manifest entered the port, but the accounts never showed them leaving the port."
Li Dakang stopped.
Why are you taking it out now?
The old man gave a wry smile.
"These past few days, people in the factory have been saying that the province is investigating old accounts and the Haizhou port. At my age, keeping this makes me sleepy at night." He pushed the envelope forward a little further. "Giving it to you puts my mind at ease."
Li Dakang took the envelope. It was very light.
He didn't rush to dismantle it; he first looked around. The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission personnel were tidying up materials in the distance, and no one was approaching.
"Mr. Yang, what you said to me today may need to be formally recorded later."
"I'll do it." The old man nodded. "I've been waiting for over twenty years, just for someone to be willing to investigate."
Li Dakang hummed in agreement and bent down to open the envelope.
Inside was a piece of paper folded three times, yellowed, with brittle edges. He slowly unfolded it.
It's a port warehouse receipt. The header reads "Haizhou Port Group Freight Storage," and below it are the cargo number, tonnage, and berth number.
The berth column had two words written on it.
07.
Li Dakang paused for a few seconds.
Let's look further down. At the bottom of the warehouse receipt is the signature section; the ink has faded, but the three characters are still clear.
Recipient: Qin Kewen
Li Dakang held the warehouse receipt, not moving it for a long time.
Mr. Yang spoke in a low voice from the side.
"Secretary Li, do you recognize this name?"
Li Dakang didn't answer. He folded the warehouse receipt again, put it back in the envelope, and turned to look at the old man.
"Mr. Yang, from now on, you've only mentioned this matter to me."
The old man was stunned.
"Don't tell anyone at the factory, including your family." Li Dakang put the envelope into his inner bag. "I'll arrange for someone to pick you up tonight, and we'll stay somewhere else for a few days."
Mr. Yang's Adam's apple bobbed.
"Secretary Li, is this...is it that serious?"
……
At 11 p.m., the lights in the provincial department's technical section were still on.
Lin Huahua projected the warehouse receipt photo sent by Li Dakang onto the big screen, next to which was the back of the internal pass.
"Director Lu, Secretary Li said this is something that an old accountant at Jingzhou Heavy Machinery has kept hidden for over twenty years."
Lu Yike pulled up a chair and sat down. There were two signatures on the screen.
Warehouse receipt signature column: Qin Kewen.
Back of the pass: Qin Kewen.
"Has the handwriting been sent for authentication?"
"The results just came out." Lin Huahua opened the email. "The starting point, the ending stroke, and the overall writing style all match. The assessment opinion is that it was written by the same person."
Lu Yike remained silent. She enlarged the two lines of text, and the last stroke of the character "克" was drawn out very long and with great force.
"One person, twenty years, signed warehouse receipts and permits." Lu Yike tapped her fingers on the edge of the table. "Investigate this person."
Lin Huahua's fingers flew across the keyboard.
"I couldn't find it in the public database, so I used Shen Zhongliu's interface to directly access the household registration records."
The data stream on the screen scrolled through a few pages and then stopped.
Lin Huahua stared at the screen, then turned around and called out.
"Director Lu, look."
Lu Yike walked over.
File header: Qin Kewen, male, from Haizhou. Position: Deputy Chief of the Dispatch Section, Haizhou Port Authority.
"Deputy section chief?" Lu Yike repeated, "A deputy section chief's signature can serve as a pass to the core area of berth 07?"
"Not just this." Lin Huahua scrolled down the mouse. "Household registration status: Cancelled."
Reason for cancellation: Death in a car accident.
Time: Ten years ago.
The host fan was humming.
"Can the photos be repaired?"
"I'll give it a try." Lin Huahua connected to the offline host. "I'll use the military's image reconstruction algorithm to perform bone comparison."
The progress bar slowly climbs on the screen.
Lu Yike poured herself a glass of water and stood by, waiting.
The computer beeped.
Two faces appeared on the screen. The one on the left was Qin Kewen's ID photo from the household registration file, and the one on the right was the restored portrait on the travel permit.
Lin Huahua overlaid the skeletal wireframe.
The height of the brow bone, the direction of the bridge of the nose, and the width of the jaw all don't match.
"Director Lu is not the same person." Lin Huahua pointed to the screen. "The face on the pass is not the same as Qin Kewen in the household registration."
Lu Yike slammed the water glass down on the table.
"Someone has been resurrected through a body."
She paused for a moment after she finished speaking.
"The real Qin Kewen was a deputy section chief, and he died ten years ago. Someone is using his identity and a pass to enter the core area and sign for those shady goods."
Lin Huahua shuddered.
"Then where did this fake one go?"
"Check." Lu Yike sat back down in her chair. "After the household registration was cancelled, is the name Qin Kewen still in use?"
Lin Huahua switched back to the interface and entered new comparison conditions.
"Logically speaking, once a person dies, their name is no longer valid..." she muttered to herself.
A record suddenly popped up on the screen.
Lin Huahua stopped.
"Director Lu has an exit record."
"When?"
"In the third year after his household registration was cancelled," Lin Huahua enlarged the line of text, "'Qin Kewen', holding a special official passport, left the country once."
Lu Yike moved closer to the screen.
A dead person, carrying a special passport, went abroad.
"Special passports aren't issued casually," Lu Yike said. "You need a work unit behind you, a formal position, and someone to handle the paperwork for you. A deceased deputy section chief isn't qualified."
"Who must have arranged it for him?"
"Check the list of peers."
Lin Huahua immediately retrieved the registration form for the accompanying personnel on that trip out of the country.
The list is not long.
"The first few are all business groups, let's skip them." Lu Yike pointed directly at the screen, "Look at the notes."
Lin Huahua moved the cursor to the remarks column. Most of them were "translator" or "accomplice".
The cursor is on the sixth line. There's a name in the notes section, followed by a line of smaller text.
Lu Yike stopped pointing at the screen.
"Director Lu?" Lin Huahua noticed her unusual behavior.
Lu Yike didn't say anything, but reached out and enlarged the line of text.
She recognized the name. Not in the case files, but in the provincial party committee's reception briefing. Every time someone came from Beijing, his name was always on the accompanying list, following behind some old comrade, year after year.
"Lin Huahua," Lu Yike's voice tightened, "check this person's work history and find out who he worked for ten years ago."
The keyboard clicked again. A few seconds later, the results popped up.
Lin Huahua turned her head, opened her mouth, but didn't say anything.
Lu Yike had already stood up, taken out her phone, and started dialing.
"Don't say anything," she gestured to Lin Huahua, "I'll talk to Director Qi directly."
The phone rang only twice.
Qi Tongwei's voice came from the other end, somewhat hoarse: "Speak."
Lu Yike had her back to the screen, her fingers gripping the phone tightly.
"Director Qi, the handwriting analysis shows that the name 'Qin Kewen' on the warehouse receipt and the pass belongs to the same person."
"Um."
"But Qin Kewen, who is listed in the household registration database, was the deputy section chief of Haizhou Port Authority. He died in a car accident ten years ago, and his household registration was cancelled."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone.
How can a dead person sign a document?
"The photo on the travel permit isn't him. Someone borrowed his identity." Lu Yike spoke quickly. "We traced the trail, and the name 'Qin Kewen' was used to leave the country three years after his death, using a special official passport."
"Who is traveling with you?" Qi Tongwei asked immediately.
"I checked."
Lu Yike turned around and glanced at the name on the screen. Lin Huahua was sitting there motionless.
She turned back and lowered her voice to a minimum.
"Director Qi, a dead man, was able to go abroad. Because the person accompanying him was Sha Ruijin's father-in-law's former chief secretary."
