Chapter 307 is done.
Chapter 308 is done.
In the Boston morning, sunlight streamed directly into the bedroom through the gaps in the curtains that weren't fully drawn.
Chen Zhuo opened his eyes.
He didn't set an alarm and slept until he naturally woke up.
I slept so soundly last night that I didn't even have a dream.
He stared at the white ceiling for a few seconds, his consciousness gradually returning.
Immediately afterwards, a very clear spasm came from my stomach.
Gollum~
It came from inside the stomach.
Chen Zhuo couldn't help but press his stomach. He probably didn't eat anything the night before last, and he didn't seem to eat anything yesterday either. He was so sleepy when he got home that he fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow and didn't even touch dinner.
By calculation, he had not eaten for more than a day.
He threw off the blanket covering him and sat up.
I was so tired when I got back yesterday that I didn't even take off my clothes.
Chen Zhuo ignored all of that and moved his stiff neck slightly, his joints making two soft cracking sounds.
Chen Zhuo pushed open the door and went out.
Unlike the noisy, chaotic, and even suffocating atmosphere of yesterday evening, the living room was unusually quiet today.
A vintage round clock hangs on the wall, its second hand ticking away.
This became the only regular sound in the entire space.
Chen Zhuo slowed his pace.
The curtains in the living room were drawn tightly, but some morning light still filtered in, preventing the room from becoming too dark.
Chen Zhuo's gaze swept across the center of the living room.
The huge portable whiteboard was still parked in front of the sofa, but the content on it had changed dramatically compared to yesterday.
Yesterday's messy, half-finished equations, which I erased and rewrote, are gone.
Instead, there are several sets of neatly arranged and logically rigorous physical field equations.
The black marker outlines the main derivation steps, while the red marker circles several key points, with the transition conditions for algebraic boundaries marked next to them.
The entire whiteboard looked like a complete blueprint for a new world.
On the carpet beneath the whiteboard, there were a dozen or so empty markers and a pile of crumpled scraps of paper.
Sam was lying next to that pile of waste paper.
He lay sprawled on the carpet, without even a pillow, his head resting directly on the edge of the carpet, his mouth slightly open, emitting soft snores.
David's coat was haphazardly draped over Sam, just covering his stomach.
Chen Zhuo bypassed the scattered draft papers on the carpet, tiptoed, and headed straight for the kitchen island.
The central island platform was also a mess.
Two empty coffee cups sat on the edge of the sink, with dried brown marks around the bottom. Next to them were several open English legal documents, covered with David's signature.
At the very edge of these documents were the several packing boxes that David had bought yesterday evening.
Chen Zhuo walked over and reached out to open the top flat cardboard box.
Inside was a beef pizza that was mostly uneaten.
After sitting overnight, the pizza had completely cooled down.
The once soft dough became somewhat hard, and the thick layer of cheese on top solidified into a pale yellow hard block. The beef cubes and green peppers were covered with a layer of cooled oil.
Logically speaking, putting this leftover cold pizza in the microwave for a minute and a half would improve its taste.
But Chen Zhuo glanced at Sam, who was sleeping soundly on the carpet a few meters away. The humming of the microwave and the final notification sound seemed a bit too jarring in the quiet morning.
Chen Zhuo reached out and picked up a cold pizza from the box.
He walked to the water dispenser next to him, filled a glass halfway with water, and then stood next to the island counter, taking a bite of the pizza in his hand.
The bread was indeed very hard; it took some effort to bite into it.
It wasn't particularly delicious, but it wasn't bad either.
As Chen Zhuo finished the first slice of cold pizza and was about to reach for the second, the sound of a door opening came from the other end of the corridor.
Chen Zhuo turned his head.
The door was pulled open halfway, and Alan came out.
After a night of rubbing, Allen's curly hair was now a complete mess, with a few clumps stubbornly sticking up on his head.
He appeared to be in an out-of-body state.
Alan closed his left eye and only managed to open his right eye halfway; his eyelid was swollen like a walnut.
As he walked, he raised his hand and vigorously rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand.
When he reached the vicinity of the central island platform, Allen put down his hand that had been rubbing his eyes and glanced ahead with blurred vision.
I saw Chen Zhuo standing there, holding half a cold pizza in his hand.
Allen stopped and paused for a couple of seconds, seemingly trying to reboot his brain and recognize who was in front of him.
Good morning, Chen.
Allen greeted them. His voice was even hoarser than the night before, muffled and unclear, as if he were speaking with a mouthful of sand in his throat.
Chen Zhuo swallowed the food in his mouth.
"morning."
Chen Zhuo picked up his water glass, took a sip, and tilted his chin to the side as he looked at Alan, who still seemed half asleep.
There should still be milk in the refrigerator.
Chen Zhuo casually offered a reminder.
Thanks.
Allen muttered something and dragged his feet to the refrigerator on the side of the island counter.
He reached out and opened the refrigerator door.
A blast of cold air emanated from within, and white mist dispersed in front of Allen.
The chill brought Allen to his senses a little more, finally causing him to open his closed left eye.
Allen took a carton of milk from the refrigerator.
He took it out, tested the temperature of the cardboard box with the back of his hand, then walked to the island counter, unscrewed the plastic cap, tilted his head back, and poured it into his mouth directly from the bottle opening.
He gulped down almost half the box in one go.
Finally, Allen took the milk carton down and let out a long sigh of relief.
The cold milk flowed down his esophagus into his stomach, completely pulling Allen out of his deep sleep.
He casually placed the half-full carton of milk on the island counter, then braced himself against the marble countertop with both hands, leaned back, and stretched languidly.
The spine made a cracking sound.
Chen Zhuo stood a meter away from him, continuing to bite into the second slice of cold pizza in his hand.
After stretching, Allen crossed his arms and looked at Chen Zhuo, then turned to look at Sam, who was fast asleep on the carpet.
"We finished the work late last night."
Allen spoke up.
Chen Zhuo continued chewing without stopping.
He looked at Allen, nodded slightly to indicate that he had heard him, and let him continue.
Allen turned his head and looked at Chen Zhuo.
"The foundation for the physics field is now connected, as is the code on Sam's side."
Allen gestured with his chin towards the black-screened laptop on the coffee table.
"At 3:30 a.m., his compiler finally ran the last line. The pointer did not overflow, and the memory allocation automatically performed folding garbage collection when it encountered your constant wall. The basic framework of that algorithm was completely typed out by him in pseudocode."
After listening, Chen Zhuo swallowed the pizza in his mouth.
He picked up the glass, drank the remaining water in one gulp, and then put the glass down.
Where is David?
Chen Zhuo asked casually.
"He goes to bed two hours earlier than us."
Allen yawned, and a few more tears welled up in the corner of his eye.
"Around 2 a.m., after David confirmed that the offshore company in the Cayman Islands had been successfully registered and sent relevant cross-authorization legal emails to several agencies he knew, he couldn't stay awake any longer and went back to his room to sleep."
As Allen spoke, he reached out and picked up the carton of milk from the island counter again.
"Sam was the last one to finish."
Allen unscrewed the cap, took another small sip of milk to moisten his throat.
"It was probably around 5 a.m., almost dawn, when Sam formatted and organized the parts that the three of us were responsible for into three final PDF drafts."
Allen leaned against the edge of the island platform, looking into Chen Zhuo's eyes.
"Your algebraic foundation, those fifteen pages you handwrote the night before last, he typed into a standard mathematical paper format using LaTeX."
"My share is based on the eleven-dimensional string membrane topological physics field of your base."
"Sam's share is the underlying discrete memory scheduling algorithm."
Allen paused for a moment and placed the milk carton back on the table.
"At 5:40 a.m., Sam logged into ArXiv's preprint website."
"He uploaded those three papers to the three different categories of mathematics, physics, and computer science. Then, the kid didn't even have the strength to walk to the sofa. He just grabbed David's coat that was draped over the chair, collapsed on the carpet, and fell fast asleep."
After Allen finished speaking, he shrugged.
Chen Zhuo stuffed the last small bite of pizza dough into his mouth and chewed it slowly.
He turned around, took a tissue from the tissue box next to the island counter, and carefully wiped the grease and ketchup residue off his fingers.
He crumpled the tissue into a ball and casually threw it into the nearby trash can.
Chen Zhuo looked up and glanced at the bright Boston morning through the gap in the living room curtains.
"Thank you for your hard work. Now, let's wait and see what the journal and those people outside do. I think they need some time to process all this."
Looking at Chen Zhuo's nonchalant calmness, Allen's nerves, which had been tense all night, completely relaxed.
"Yeah, let them digest it. I just want to sleep for another twelve hours right now."
Allen turned around, dragging his feet, and slowly walked back to his room, just as he had come.
"I'm going back, Chen. Don't wake me up at noon. Even if the sky falls, wait until I wake up before you talk to me."
Allen pushed open the door and went inside. The door wasn't closed tightly, leaving a crack.
The living room returned to silence.
The clock on the wall was still ticking away.
Sam rolled over on the carpet, mumbled something in his sleep, and then fell back into a deep sleep.
