Chapter 81 Honesty

A naked threat.

Previously, Odim had hinted that he knew Li De's background, for example, by occasionally mentioning terms like "VIP client".

But this was the first time he had made such a real threat, which meant that they had completely broken off relations.

This threat was useless to him; in his previous life, he was an orphan with no ties, living alone on Earth.

Aside from occasionally missing the conveniences of modern life, I have absolutely no other concerns.

Needless to say, the conjunction of the celestial spheres is like a carp releasing its eggs, sending countless strange things to other worlds that don't belong to them. Soul transmigration is nothing compared to that.

Li De's eyes remained calm and undisturbed, showing no sign of panic.

"If you have the ability, then go for it."

That short sentence instantly froze the inscrutable smile on Odim's face, his lips curving into a stalemate.

He knew that things were completely out of his control.

That threat, spoken in Chinese just now, finally gave him away.

He did know of Earth's existence, and for many years he had been filled with curiosity about that planet, trying every means to set foot on it, wanting to see what was so special about that seemingly ordinary planet that could give birth to a unique soul.

But he just couldn't get in.

A high-ranking demon who roams the myriad realms, disregards the barriers of ordinary worlds, and can freely travel between realms, is actually rejected by an ordinary planet.

This frustration is so great that it would make all my colleagues laugh.

Left with no other choice, he had to settle for second best and explore a world very similar to Earth.

That planet follows the cyber technology route, where humans are obsessed with transplanting various metal artifacts into their bodies to modify themselves. Apart from that, there is nothing special about it, and he simply cannot find the answer he is looking for.

Where did I slip up?

The flaw is that I am an orphan —

Li De merely glanced at him indifferently and remained silent.

Seeing that Li De was unmoved by reason, Odim shrugged helplessly, softened his tone, and adopted a conciliatory posture.

"Alright, even if the deal falls through, let's remain friendly. Consider it an apology, and I can tell you something you've always wanted to know. For example, what exactly is 'eternal consistency'?"

""

"You'd be that kind?"

"Of course not."

Odim was quite frank, a sly smile playing on his lips.

"I just wanted to set a trap for my competitors, so that they wouldn't find out later that a client I'd been eyeing for so long was snatched away by someone else."

Li De said no more, turned around and found a clean blue stone to sit on, leaning against the stone wall, and raised his hand to signal Odim: "Take your time, I'm listening."

Odim composed himself and began to speak slowly.

"Every universe has the potential to expand infinitely. Among the many universes, there must exist one or more people who look exactly like you and have the same soul foundation. That is your counterpart in another universe."

As he spoke, he looked at Li De, seemingly to confirm whether he could understand these remarks that were beyond the comprehension of this world.

Li De nodded knowingly: "Parallel worlds, I understand, go on."

"The so-called eternal unity means that in all universes and all time and space, there is no other counterpart. In all the heavens and myriad worlds, there is only one you, unique and one of a kind, without any clones or any souls of the same origin."

"That does sound very special. What practical use does it have?"

"If all you want is to be a carefree witcher, living for a few hundred years and then lying down to wait for death, then naturally you're not very useful."

Odim exclaimed dramatically, "But if you're ambitious and want to possess even greater power, like—becoming a god, then it will be incredibly useful."

"Let me put it this way: if an ordinary person happens to obtain a trace of divinity, this power will slowly synchronize with all his counterparts. When the counterparts resonate with each other, they have the potential to condense a divine position and transcend the ordinary cycle of life and death."

"When all his counterparts merge into one, achieving eternity," he will completely transform into powerful divine force.

"This process sounds simple, but it's extremely difficult to do."

"If you're lucky, the corresponding entities will resonate harmoniously. Even if you grind it out for several epochs, you'll eventually succeed. For gods who possess divine positions, time is just a passing cloud."

"If you're unlucky and there's a conflict between your counterparts, you'll only be able to fight and slaughter your counterparts in endless spacetime."

"And your presence can help them greatly accelerate this process."

These words contained a great deal of information. Li De tapped his knees lightly with his fingertips, quickly digesting this mind-blowing information.

He roughly understood that powerful divine power is unique, and to reach the top, one must merge with the counterparts of all parallel worlds, and he himself is the key to accelerating this process.

But what he was more concerned about was whether this acceleration process would harm him; he hoped it wouldn't be a self-sacrificing act of burning himself to light up others.

Li De's heart tightened, and he instantly recalled the scene when he ran to the Temple of Meriteli to ask the priest for answers. A cold sweat broke out on his back.

"What level of god is Meritelli?"

"The Triad Goddess possesses undeniably powerful divine strength."

Odim shrugged.

Thank goodness — I don't need to be used.

"Do you know how this accelerated fusion process actually works?"

He pressed for more information.

"Tch, going around in circles, isn't it just asking if this process caused you any harm?"

Odim chuckled, his tone frank, even tinged with a hint of roguishness: "I can tell you very clearly—I don't know."

"Huh?" Li De was taken aback, clearly not expecting this answer.

Odim clicked his tongue, looking completely matter-of-fact.

"Is that so strange? I am a demon, and I don't walk the same path as those gods. I was born under the protection of the great power of the rules. Even powerful gods can only expel me within the constraints of the rules, but cannot kill me."

"Within the rules—so you are both protected and restricted by the rules. As long as you act within the rules, even an ordinary person can defeat you, is that what you mean?"

"You're so smart it's almost annoying."

Odim's smile vanished instantly, and he left in the blink of an eye.

Li De reluctantly got up. Actually, he hadn't finished asking. He wanted to know why Odim was so wary of him, but he figured Odim wouldn't tell him even if he asked.

Treeheart had no idea that Odim had ever been there, and continued talking about how to get himself out.

"I need a medium, in your bag, that gem that symbolizes 'frozen life force.'"

Li De remembered that it was the reward given to him by Mossak, the royal sorcerer of Sintra. At the time, he only thought it was extraordinary, but he never expected it to have this effect.
