Upon hearing this, the room completely erupted into chaos.

"Brother Shanhe, what are you doing!"

Old Hei and Monkey panicked completely. With red eyes, the two rushed forward and grabbed Zhao Shanhe's arms tightly on either side, forcibly lifting him up.

Old Hei, this tough, unyielding man, was now stamping his feet in frustration, tears welling in his eyes. His hoarse voice trembled with sobs: "We men of Kaoshantun are not cowards! Taking a beating or suffering a little injustice is nothing! You're giving us this huge salute, aren't you shortening our lifespans?!"

The monkey hastily wiped its face with its muddy sleeve, but the more it wiped, the more tears streamed down its face.

He gripped Zhao Shanhe's sleeve tightly, his voice choked with emotion:

"Brother Shanhe, we don't blame you for anything. We all know perfectly well that if it weren't for you leading us to make money by trading hides, we'd still be stuck in the village eating ice and going hungry!"

"These past few days at the factory, you've risked your life for us brothers! You've had it tough, you've been frustrated, but we brothers really don't blame you!"

As soon as the monkey said this, more than a dozen men from Kaoshantun took a step forward in unison.

Some people clenched their fists tightly, while others nodded frantically with red eyes.

"That's right, Brother Shanhe, this isn't your fault!"

"Fine, we'll quit! We'll go back to farming. As long as we're with you, we won't starve!"

"Brother Shanhe, our lives are yours. We'll do whatever you tell us to do without hesitation!"

A series of hoarse, tearful screams echoed through the small, warm room.

Zhao Shanhe did not break free from Lao Hei and the monkey's grasp.

He stood quietly, his gaze sweeping over the dozen or so faces, stained with mud and blood, yet radiating unwavering trust.

Zhao Shanhe took a deep breath.

He patted Lao Hei and Monkey's shoulders heavily with his other hand.

"it is good."

Zhao Shanhe's voice was deep and resonant, each word striking a chord in everyone's hearts: "Let's go."

After speaking, he turned his head and looked at Liang Tiejun, who had been sitting silently on the wooden chair.

Zhao Shanhe's tone softened, revealing a seriousness: "Director Liang, I'm sorry. Hongxing Machinery Factory is a good factory, and all the workers there are excellent. I, Zhao Shanhe, will remember your care for us brothers these past few days for the rest of my life."

"But the way Secretary Chen and those people up there are doing things is completely leaving no way out for us. I can't just stand by and watch my brothers stay here and continue to be cannon fodder for them."

Upon hearing this, Liang Tiejun's hand holding the cigarette trembled violently.

A large piece of scalding hot cigarette ash landed on the back of his rough hand, burning a small patch red, but he seemed not to feel the pain.

The old factory director, who had devoted most of his life to the Red Star Factory, slowly raised his head.

His gaze swept over Old Black and Monkey, finally settling on Monkey, who was only sixteen years old and had frostbite all over his face.

Looking at these young men from Kaoshantun covered in wounds, Liang Tiejun's eyes welled up with tears.

He suddenly threw the half-eaten Daqianmen cigarette in his hand to the ground and stomped on it hard, straightening his hunched back slightly.

"Walk."

Liang Tiejun's voice was hoarse, as if he had swallowed a handful of sand, but his tone left no room for doubt: "Take them away, the farther the better."

Liang Tiejun stared at Zhao Shanhe, his bloodshot eyes revealing a sorrowful resolve: "You're right, Secretary Chen and Gao Wenbin's gang have gone mad. Hongxing Factory is now a rotten swamp that devours people without spitting out the bones. I'm just an old man, I can let the factory rot here, but they're still young, they absolutely cannot be buried with me!"

He waved his hand sharply, as if shooing them away, but his voice trembled: "While you can still get away, take them back to Kaoshantun. They can do whatever they want there, but don't come back to suffer this humiliation!"

The old factory director's heartfelt words were like a heavy hammer blow, bringing tears to the eyes of all the men in the room.

Zhao Shanhe looked at the old man who had almost given his life to protect them, and his Adam's apple bobbed.

He opened his mouth, but his throat felt like it was blocked by a wad of tattered cotton, and he couldn't utter a single word.

Zhao Shanhe abruptly turned his head, took a deep breath of the dry, cold air mixed with the smell of Chinese medicine, and forcibly swallowed the burning, sour feeling in his eyes.

When he turned his head again, his unfathomable eyes were now filled with a chilling coldness and determination.

"I definitely have to leave."

Zhao Shanhe suddenly changed the subject, his eyes instantly turning cold and sharp, his tone revealing a chilling ruthlessness.

"But we absolutely cannot just slink away naked like this."

"Da Niu is still in jail, and Deputy Factory Director Zhang is still in solitary confinement training."

"We have to rescue everyone safely! We have to collect all the debts owed to us by Gao Wenbin and his bastards, with interest, settle this filthy account, and then we can leave with nothing to our name!"

Zhao Shanhe spoke as if making an oath, emphasizing each word.

"And the suffering you and Deputy Factory Director Zhang endured inside cannot be left unpunished. Gao Wenbin and Secretary Chen want to swallow up Hongxing Factory and climb over our bones to get ahead; I'm going to chop their outstretched claws to pieces!"

"We'll help you preserve the foundation of the Hongxing Factory, giving you and all the workers a clean and honest account! Consider it repayment for the kindness you've shown us during this time!"

"Once we settle all these messy accounts, I'll lead my brothers away with nothing to lose, and go make some real money!"

The room was deathly silent.

Immediately afterwards, a dozen men sniffed hard, clenched their fists tightly, nodded fiercely, and a terrifying fighting spirit re-emerged in their eyes.

Just then.

The curtain in the inner room was gently lifted a crack.

Xiumei stood at the kitchen doorway, holding a steaming, chipped aluminum basin filled with hot soup noodles glistening with oil, topped with a dozen or so golden poached eggs.

She had overheard the conversation inside from behind the door. Now, looking at this group of grown men with red eyes, tears welled up in her own eyes, but she held them back and whispered, "The noodles are ready. Don't just stand there, eat something while it's hot..."

Just then, the drafty wooden door outside was pushed open with a "bang".

Dazhuang, covered in snowflakes, dragged a thin old man carrying a worn-out medicine box into the house in a flurry of activity.

"Brother Shanhe! I've brought the traditional Chinese medicine doctor for bone injuries!"

………………

To be honest, my eyes are a little red as I write this chapter.

I've readjusted the outline for the later chapters.

It's not that I wrote particularly well, but when I wrote about Monkey and Lao Hei shouting out their grievances, when I wrote about Zhao Shanhe bowing to his brothers, when I wrote about him saying, "It's Zhao Shanhe who has let everyone down," I realized that I had oversimplified some parts of the earlier text.

Zhao Shanhe is not the kind of person who, after seeing his brothers being imprisoned, beaten, starved, and trampled into the mud, would still persuade everyone to endure it for the sake of the greater good.

The Hongxing Machinery Factory has good workers, good masters, and people like Director Liang and Deputy Director Zhang who genuinely want to save the factory. But the current situation is truly unbearable for the brothers in Kaoshantun.

They followed Zhao Shanhe because they trusted him.

As a result, Da Niu was arrested, Er Zhu Zi was beaten like this, and Lao Hei, Hou Zi, and the others were locked up in the old boiler room and suffered so much humiliation.

As I write this, I feel that Zhao Shanhe cannot pretend that nothing happened, nor can he continue to let these brothers who have always followed him, believed in him, and risked their lives for him stay here as cannon fodder for others.

Therefore, I made adjustments to the outline later.

Of course, leaving wasn't a slinky affair.

Da Niu hasn't come out yet, Deputy Factory Director Zhang is still suffering inside, and Factory Director Liang's suffering can't be in vain. The beatings and bloodshed of the brothers in Kaoshantun can't be let off the hook either.

This score definitely needs to be settled.

Having written this far, I have some new thoughts about the character of Director Li.

He is neither a simple bad person nor a simple good person. He has his own position and his own plans. But from the perspective of Zhao Shanhe and the brothers of Kaoshantun, the suffering they have endured during this period is real.

Therefore, the relationship between Zhao Shanhe and Director Li may become more delicate later on.

I wonder how everyone feels after reading this.

If you found any parts of these recent chapters frustrating or off, feel free to point them out. I've revised this section many times, and I'm trying my best to make the rest of the chapters flow smoothly, so as not to disappoint those who have followed me this far.
