Under One Person: The Taoist Priest Descends the Mountain
Chapter 13 Don't judge a book by its cover!
The young father's face suddenly contorted into a ferocious expression, veins bulging on his forehead. His right hand shot out with lightning speed, grabbing the burly man's wrist that was resting on his shoulder. Without any apparent effort, he simply yanked the man violently to the side and backward.
"Ouch!"
That burly man, who weighed at least 170 or 180 pounds, was lifted off the ground like a light sack and crashed sideways into the other side of the car wall!
boom!
With a muffled thud, the car body shook.
The burly man slid down the side of the car and sat down in the seat, clutching his chest and back. His face was pale, his eyes were wide open, and he was completely dazed, unable to catch his breath for a long time.
The people on the bus who were just about to say a few words in support of the young couple were all stunned into silence. Their gazes toward the young father instantly shifted from sympathy to fear.
The young father looked around, snorted coldly, and said in a chilling tone, "We don't want to bother you, and you'd better not test my patience."
After saying that, he took his wife's hand and said, "Let's go."
The couple walked quickly to the car door.
Just then—
puff!
"what!"
The young father, who was stepping out of the car, suddenly screamed and fell forward, dragging his wife, who was holding his hand, down into the aisle with a scream.
"Little Taoist priest, what are you doing?!"
Xia He turned to look at Cheng Mo in astonishment. She had clearly seen it just now: the moment the man took a step, Cheng Mo flicked his wrist, and a gray shadow shot out from his fingertip, striking the back of the man's calf!
Cheng Mo grinned, revealing two rows of white teeth: "This is my gift to you, a... big plot twist."
Before he could finish speaking, he darted out like a cheetah, stepping on the back of the young father who was struggling to get up before the passengers could react.
The young father groaned and was pushed back down.
Cheng Mo looked down at him, her voice carrying clearly through the quiet carriage: "Hey, this... this 'father' with so much strength, you think you can just leave after hurting someone? Aren't you going to pay for their medical expenses?"
As he spoke, he looked up and gazed into the car.
The burly man, who had been thrown around in a daze, had recovered and was clutching his chest and grimacing. Hearing this, he immediately perked up and yelled at the top of his lungs, "I...I think my ribs are broken! Make him pay! Pay! Call the police! Call the police now!"
The passengers on the bus then seemed to snap out of their daze and immediately started chattering away:
"Exactly! How can you just hit people like that!"
"They look so polite, but they're so ruthless!"
"Call the police! Driver, don't open the car door!"
A helpful passenger had already pulled out their phone: "Hello, 110? There's a fight here, the address is..."
As luck would have it, a police car was coming from the opposite lane.
Upon seeing this, the passengers and driver immediately leaned out of the car window and shouted, "Uncle Hat! Over here! Someone's hitting someone! Come quick!"
The police car screeched to a halt beside them, and two men in hats quickly got out and strode toward the minibus.
The young father, who was being stepped on by Cheng Mo, struggled even more violently, while his seemingly weak wife, upon seeing Uncle Hat approach, threw the swaddled baby in her arms hard at Cheng Mo's face and turned to run wildly into the woods by the roadside!
"A child!" a passenger exclaimed.
Cheng Mo seemed to have anticipated this. He tilted his head slightly, scooped up the flying baby with one hand, and steadily caught it in his arms.
At this point, even if Xia He didn't understand the specifics, she realized that something was wrong with this "couple"!
A glint of excitement flashed in her eyes. With one hand bracing against the car window sill, her slender figure, like a light pink butterfly, flipped directly out of the car window, landing with almost no sound.
Immediately afterward, she pushed off with her feet and moved incredibly fast, catching up with the woman who was heading into the woods in just a few steps.
Hearing the wind behind her, the woman turned around in alarm and raised her hand to resist, but Xia He easily parried her hand, then twisted her arms behind her back and pinned her to the spot.
"Oh dear, why are you running away?" Xia He said with a smile. "Uncle Hat is here, let's talk things out properly~"
She led the woman, whose face was ashen, back home.
Two men in hats walked up to them, their expressions serious: "What's going on?"
"Uncle Hat! He hit someone!"
"No, it was that guy with the bushy beard who started the fight!"
"But you can't just throw someone off balance!"
Everyone was talking at once, and the carriage was in complete chaos.
Someone actually said that the mother was even worse, throwing her own child away—but before they could finish speaking, they were interrupted.
"You idiot!" The old woman who had tried to reason with him earlier angrily slapped the person who had spoken. "Don't you understand yet? That woman isn't the child's mother! What kind of mother throws her child out like a projectile?"
The carriage fell silent for a moment as everyone looked at each other in bewilderment.
The two men in hats frowned, feeling a buzzing in their heads.
"Alright, alright, stop arguing!" The younger man in the hat raised his voice and gestured with his hand. "Speak one by one, no one can hear you like this!"
His gaze swept across the crowd, finally landing on Cheng Mo. Without even asking him to release the person at his feet, he directly asked, "Young man, you're a college student, right? Tell me, what happened?"
Cheng Mo pointed to the burly man with a thick beard whose face was getting increasingly pale: "Before that, let's call an ambulance for this guy. He doesn't look well."
Only then did everyone notice that the burly man's face was deathly pale, his lips were purple, and he was clutching his chest tightly with one hand, breathing rapidly.
"I...I have a chest pain..." the burly man managed to squeeze out a few words, cold sweat pouring down his forehead.
The older man in the hat's expression changed, and he immediately stepped forward to check.
He clearly knew some orthopedics. He helped the burly man lie down, gently pressed on his chest a few times, and his expression turned serious: "Rib fracture, not sure if the lung is injured. Xiao Liu, call an ambulance!"
The young man in the hat quickly pulled out his walkie-talkie and made a call.
While waiting for the ambulance, Uncle Hat turned to Cheng Mo: "Now tell me, what exactly happened?"
Cheng Mo nodded and began to explain, "Actually, I didn't notice anything wrong at first; it was just a child crying. But..."
He pointed to the man at his feet: "This man secretly put medicine into the baby bottle when he was preparing the formula."
"Drugned?!" everyone exclaimed.
One woman immediately retorted, "Mixing medicine doesn't necessarily make someone a bad person! When my child is sick, I also mix medicine into the bottle, otherwise the child won't drink it!"
This was echoed by two or three other passengers.
The woman being held down by Xia He suddenly looked up and glared at Cheng Mo with a sinister look in her eyes.
The burly man with a thick beard struggled to raise his head and retorted, "That guy... took out capsules, opened them, and poured powder inside... Do they even have capsules like that for baby medicine?"
The carriage fell silent again.
Uncle Hat quickly comforted the burly man and told him to lie down properly.
Although Xia He helped catch the person, she was still a little confused.
She nudged Cheng Mo with her elbow and asked in a low voice, "When I was little, I often poured out the powder from the capsules and mixed it with water to drink. Is that not allowed?"
Cheng Mo glanced at her: "You've been at least three years old since you started having memories, but you were still an infant. Pharmaceutical companies would never design capsule formulations for infants. If a doctor dares to prescribe this kind of medicine to an infant, they're probably not afraid of dying."
Xia He pouted: "Look at you, so capable."
The surrounding passengers then realized what was happening and began to discuss it amongst themselves.
"I knew something was off about that man! His own child was crying, but instead of comforting the child, he kept apologizing!"
"That mother has a problem too! A baby this young will definitely recognize breast milk, but she just held him and rocked him around, it looked so fake!"
Uncle Hat listened to the discussions and roughly understood what was going on.
He had his colleagues handcuff the two suspects, and then said to Cheng Mo and Xia He, "Since you two helped catch the suspects, you also need to come back to the station with us to give a statement. The rest of you can go now."
The driver, feeling like he'd been granted a pardon, quickly opened the door.
The passengers thanked the man in the hat repeatedly, and as they passed the two handcuffed human traffickers, some couldn't help but spit on them.
"Bah! You heartless bastard!"
"They even steal children! They deserve to die a horrible death!"
"Driver, hurry up and drive! This is bad luck!"
As the crowd dispersed, the older man in the hat walked up to Cheng Mo and whispered a reminder: "Young man, when you get to the station to give your statement, just say that the trafficker fell down on his own. Don't mention hitting his leg with something, understand?"
Cheng Mo nodded obediently: "Thank you, Uncle Hat, I understand."
Uncle Hat patted him on the shoulder: "Good boy."
The ambulance arrived quickly, and the paramedics carefully secured the bearded, burly man to a stretcher.
Just before getting into the car, the burly man suddenly struggled to raise his hand and waved at Cheng Mo: "Young man... thank you! You're a good guy!"
Cheng Mo laughed: "Big brother, you're the best! To be honest, I never imagined you could do something like this."
The burly man tried to laugh, but this aggravated his injuries, causing him to cough violently.
The nurse quickly held him down: "Don't move! It would be a disaster if a rib pierced your lung!"
The ambulance drove away with its siren blaring.
