Xia He rushed to the roadside and hailed a taxi.

"Driver, hurry up, to Chunfeng Residential Area."

Seeing her in such a hurry, the driver casually asked, "Miss, what's the rush?"

Xia He blurted out, "My dad is having an affair at home, I have to go back and help my mom."

The driver suddenly became energetic and stepped on the gas, making the beat-up taxi feel like a Ferrari.

Xia He was thrown against the back of the chair by inertia, gripping the armrest without saying a word.

Ten minutes later, the taxi stopped downstairs at her house.

Xia He threw down a hundred yuan, opened the car door, and jumped out.

The driver was still shouting from behind, "Girl, give that shameless bitch a good beating!"

In a corner some distance away, Gao Ning rubbed his bald head, watching Xia He's retreating figure, and muttered to himself, "What did that little girl Xia He say to the driver?"

Xia He rushed into the house.

In the living room, her mother and Dou Mei were sitting at the dining table, holding hands and looking very affectionate.

Seeing her return, Liu Yuping smiled and said, "Oh, Xiao He is back! Your Aunt Dou insisted on waiting for you before she started eating."

Dou Mei smiled gently: "Sister, you're right. Of course, it's more lively when the whole family eats together."

Xia He stood at the door, took a deep breath to calm herself, then smiled, changed her shoes and went inside.

"Aunt Dou is here! Why didn't you tell me beforehand so I could prepare?"

Dou Mei smiled and waved her hand: "It was a spur-of-the-moment decision. I thought I'd come and see you all. Your mother is home alone, so I'll keep her company and chat with her."

Xia He sat down opposite her, her gaze sweeping over her mother's face.

The mother had a gentle smile on her face, but her eyes were a little unfocused, and she looked weak and listless.

Dou Mei's aura was very faint, floating almost imperceptibly in the air.

Xia He could feel that the Qi that made people unwilling to resist was slowly seeping into her mother's body.

She clenched her fists, but couldn't move them.

With her mother right beside her, if their energies clashed head-on, she simply wouldn't be able to withstand it.

Dou Mei picked up her chopsticks and placed a piece of braised pork on Xia He's plate: "Child, don't be so stubborn. Be more obedient and relax, okay?"

Xia He took the bowl and said with a smile, "Thank you, Aunt Dou."

Dou Mei put another piece of food on her plate: "Eat more, you've lost weight."

Xia He smiled and said, "Aunt Dou is so good to me."

Dou Mei looked at her with admiration in her eyes: "We really didn't mean to hurt your parents. We just wanted you to know that there are people in this world who understand you and are willing to be with you."

Xia He kept her head down and ate without saying a word.

Just then, Dou Mei's phone rang.

She took it out, glanced at it, and answered the call.

A male voice came from inside: "Dou Mei, the people from Na Du Tong are here. Be careful over there."

Xia He cursed Na Du Tong a thousand times in her heart upon hearing this.

His own mother is being controlled by the other party; wouldn't coming here at this time just cause trouble?!

Dou Mei did something unexpected.

She smiled and said to Xia He, "Xia He, we have never been enemies, and we have never intended to threaten you with your parents. You will understand sooner or later that desires cannot be suppressed, and the so-called righteous path is nothing but a joke. Only we are your companions."

He then released Liu Yuping's hand.

Liu Yuping's body went limp and she fell to the side.

Xia He rushed over, supported her mother, and held her in her arms.

Dou Mei had already reached the door and placed her hand on the doorknob: "Good child, we will meet again."

She opened the door—

Outside the door, several well-connected people were running up the stairwell and came face to face with her.

Dou Mei was stunned for a moment, cursing inwardly.

That damned monk Gao Ning, didn't he know to notify us sooner?!

She instinctively stepped back, wanting to retreat back into the house.

Bang!

The door closed behind her.

Dou Mei: "...?"

Inside the house, Xia He pressed the door lock. She didn't dare to fight Dou Mei directly, for fear of hurting her mother.

But closing the door is still no problem.

This is a high-security door; even a monster like the little Taoist priest would probably have to ram it twice.

I don't believe that Dou Mei, this middle-aged aunt, can break through before the all-knowing person rushes up.

The sound of footsteps coming up from the stairwell came from the Nadutong (a local services company) employees.

Xia He silently gave Na Du Tong a thumbs up in her heart.

They arrived just in time.

Dou Mei turned her head to look at the group of burly men in uniforms at the stairwell and gave them a gentle smile.

"Comrades, if I said I just came to visit, would you believe me?"

The lead employee from NaDuTong waved his hand: "Take it!"

Dou Mei turned around and ran upstairs.

The high heels clicked on the cement steps, a rapid, rhythmic thud like a machine gun.

She ran to the corner on the third floor and glanced back—the people from NaDuTong had already rushed into the stairwell, and the one in the lead was less than ten meters away from her.

Dou Mei took a deep breath and continued running upwards.

Fourth floor.

Fifth floor.

Sixth floor...

……

roof.

Shen Chong stood on the rooftop, pacing back and forth with his phone in hand: "Why hasn't that monk Gao Ning arrived yet?"

He looked downstairs but didn't see the round figure.

I looked into the distance again, but still couldn't see it.

He took out his phone to make a call—

boom!

The rooftop door was smashed open.

Dou Mei rushed out, panting and clutching her knees: "Shen... Shen Chong... Na Du Tong... has caught up with us..."

The people from Na Du Tong rushed to the edge of the rooftop and watched as the wooden plank fell from a height of more than ten stories and shattered into pieces.

"Chase him! Go downstairs!"

A group of people ran back.

……

on the street.

Gao Ning ran forward, her large belly swaying, until she was covered in sweat.

His physique isn't suited for strenuous exercise, but he has no choice but to run now.

The men from NaDuTong were hot on their heels, the leader shouting as he ran, "Gao Ning! Stop!"

Gao Ning ran even faster.

There was a crossroads ahead. He checked the direction and turned left.

Just as I turned the corner, I bumped into a group of people who seemed to know everything.

Gao Ning immediately turned around and ran back.

The group behind them caught up.

Gao Ning took a deep breath and ducked into the alley next to him.

……

At Xia He's home.

The footsteps outside the door gradually faded away.

Xia He helped her mother to the sofa and checked her over. Fortunately, she was just unconscious and there was nothing seriously wrong.

She took the food pouch out of her pocket and aimed it at her mother.

whoosh-

The mother disappeared.

Xia He stuffed the food sac into the back of the wardrobe, covered it with clothes, checked it several times, clapped her hands, opened the door and rushed out.

In the stairwell, the people from Nadutong were chasing after them downstairs.

Xia He ran down with the crowd, out of the building entrance, and into the alley behind the building.

In the alley, the man who knew everything was standing at the crossroads, looking worried.

"We've lost them," someone said on the walkie-talkie. "They split up and ran off in different directions, we don't know which way they went."

Xia He squeezed to the front and pointed to the alley on the left: "Over there."

The team leader glanced at her: "How did you know?"

"I saw Dou Mei run that way." Xia He said and then ran in that direction.

The leader waved his hand and shouted, "Chase!"

A group of people followed.

You can run through alleys, but they're still alleys.

After running for a very long time, the alley finally ended, and there was a construction site ahead.

Dou Mei, Shen Chong, and Gao Ning ran into an unfinished building and leaned against the wall, panting.

Shen Chong, clutching his knees, gasped for breath: "Why...why are you chasing me?!"

People from Nadutong surrounded them from all sides, trapping them inside the building.

The team leader stepped forward and sneered, "Why are we chasing you, Shen Chong? Your Qi Loan financial chain should have collapsed long ago, right? You've lent out so much, how much have you gotten back? Do you think we don't know?"

Shen Chong sneered.

The team leader turned to Gao Ning: "And you, Gao Ning, how many hidden schemes did you plant in your Twelve Labors Formation? How many ordinary people were stirred up by your emotions, causing husbands and wives to turn against each other, and fathers and sons to become enemies?"

Gao Ning put his hands together and recited a Buddhist chant.

The team leader turned to Dou Mei one last time: "Dou Mei, you're targeting ordinary people and manipulating their will, do you think we don't know?!"

Dou Mei sighed.
