Chapter 362 Even the King of Wudang Suffers
Wang was also looking forward to lunch in the cave.
He had only told his Uncle Wei to answer a call from his hometown, but he never expected that his uncle would trick him and make him stay at the cave entrance to guard the Grand Tutor.
They could have just stayed put, but their curiosity got the better of them, and they went inside as soon as they saw a light. And to make matters worse, they even looked at that lousy picture.
Transform me into king.
That's quite a boast.
Why did you agree to learn it?
What's even more annoying is that it's so easy to learn.
If my grandmaster uncle found out, he would be in a terrible mood. But whether I hide it for a while or for a lifetime, it's still the same thing.
As he thought about it, Wang remembered the agreement he had made with his father. They agreed that he would give his opinion on the matter once he got into university, but when he actually did, his father's iron fist came down on him.
Wang Ye touched his face, still remembering how much it hurt back then.
He had expected this; it was normal for a son to get a beating for provoking his father. But he genuinely wanted to go up Wudang Mountain. Although he had learned a little from Master Zhou, he hadn't mastered the real stuff, especially that innate feeling.
Fortunately, my dad let him go to the company for a proper talk.
It was such a big conference room, with a large conference table for dozens of people. Old Wang sat at one end, and Wang Ye sat at the other end, about seven or eight meters apart.
Wang Weiguo stared at his third son for a long time before finally speaking: "Yihe has made me angry countless times since he was little. You're different. As far as I can remember, this is the first time I've ever lost my temper with you this much. I'm really a failure as a father."
Wang listened quietly without offering any opinions, his hands resting on his knees, sitting upright.
Wang Weiguo sighed: "It's a bit unfair to your two older brothers to say this. You are my favorite child, but it turns out you are also the one I understand the least."
Seeing that Wang Ye still didn't speak, Old Wang could only remind him, "Speak up! Don't you have anything to say to me? Are you here to play dumb?"
Wang Ye scratched his face, his voice tinged with helplessness: "I don't know what to say to you, or how to say it. I roughly understand how serious it is to bring this up with you, and I know it will hurt you, but I don't think I've gone too far."
Wang Weiguo frowned and tapped his fingers twice on the table.
Wang continued, "But if I were to keep nagging you here, hoping that you would forgive me or even support me, then I would be going too far."
Wang Weiguo sighed again, this time a longer and deeper sigh than before: "That's you—of all the eldest and second eldest brothers with their various flaws, you're still the one who gives me the least trouble. It's not that you're particularly smart or capable; what I like most about you is your ability to understand others."
He took out a pack of cigarettes, but it turned out to contain wooden sticks. He held them in his hand, pretending to smoke, and walked to the French windows to look at the busy street outside.
"Whether you agree with the other person or not, you know what they want. Maybe you're too reassuring, so much so that I overlooked one thing—what do you actually want?"
Wang Ye looked at his father's retreating figure and said, "Dad, I'm starting to panic."
Wang Weiguo turned around, his brows furrowed slightly: "What are you panicking about?"
Wang thought for a moment and organized his thoughts: "I don't know when it started, but nothing really moves me anymore."
Wang Weiguo looked calmly at his youngest son without saying a word.
Wang Ye placed his hand on the table, his fingers lightly gripping the surface as if he were grasping something: "Doing things is like seeing something on the ground, picking it up and holding onto it. Some people can't even pick up what they want, and even if they manage to, they can't hold onto it."
He raised his hand slightly, palm up, as if holding something: "It's not enough to just grab it; you have to hold it carefully the whole time, or it will slip out of your hand if you're not careful."
Wang Weiguo's expression became complicated, but he didn't speak.
Wang Ye lowered his hand and placed it back on the table: "What about those people who are both highly skilled and lucky? Unless they let themselves go..."
"Give it up, or you'll hold on until you die, and before they die they'll have to arrange how their descendants will continue to hold on to it."
Wang Weiguo lowered his head and pondered.
Wang continued, "And the people I'm talking about, even those who aren't capable of picking up the scraps, are considered lucky. Because most people don't have a choice. Besides desperately picking up the basics that can sustain their survival, anything extra they can pick up is deliberately arranged for them by people like you, Dad."
Wang Weiguo walked back to his seat and sat down, placing his hands on the table: "So, you've decided to go up the mountain?"
Wang Ye nodded: "I think so. It was indeed a decision I made myself without any interference."
Wang Weiguo stared into his eyes: "What can you possibly grasp there?"
Wang Ye scratched his head: "I can't really explain it. I just have a feeling, like it's not that I picked it up, but that it was already in my hands when I was born. If I keep ignoring it, or even completely forget about it one day, it will really be gone."
Wang Weiguo leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling for a few seconds: "What if I absolutely refused to let you go? What if I insisted that you grab what I gave you?"
Wang Ye gave a helpless smile: "I've been thinking about it all night. If you really can't accept it, then forget it. I can't let you get sick from anger, can I?"
Wang Weiguo clenched his fist, the veins on the back of his hand bulging: "I can't ask that of you. You are my son, not me. You should have your own life, and as long as it doesn't violate public order and good morals, I shouldn't interfere. But that's the way things are."
Wang Ye stood up and walked to Wang Weiguo: "Dad, please don't do this."
Wang Weiguo ignored him and continued talking to himself: "The worst part is that the school he just got into, he just quits and goes to the mountains to become a monk—"
Wang Ye quickly interrupted, "Who said I'm not going to study anymore? Do you think it's easy for me to get into university? Do you think I'd be wasting my time studying like a prodigy?
Wang Weiguo looked up, his face full of surprise: "You're still in school?"
Wang Ye nodded: "Yes, we're counting on you to pay for the tuition. Master Zhou said that I can formally become his student, but my parents have to agree if I can actually learn the skills."
Wang Weiguo immediately stood up, sliding his chair back half a meter: "Okay, son, I'm fine on my end. You can talk to your mother yourself."
Wang Ye chuckled: "My mom's fine. She has three sons, and they're all too outstanding; she'll have to keep competing with them. She'll keep two who are family-oriented, and they'll go up the mountain to pray for her. She even told me to learn more about divination so I can do fortune-telling for her later."
Wang Weiguo:
Inside the cave in Wudang Mountain, Wang sighed. Well, he'd better keep up the act for now, but he didn't know if he could make it in time for the start of the semester.
"You brat! Slacking off again!"
boom!
Wang Ye rubbed his head, grimacing. His grand-uncle had really gone too far; he was covered in bumps.
The mountain path to Liangyi Temple remains unchanged, offering beautiful scenery everywhere you look.
Cheng Mo and Xia He climbed the mountain hand in hand. When they were almost at the top, they heard a noisy chatter coming from the temple.
"Why isn't my senior brother back yet?"
"That's right, we've been waiting for so long."
"Don't worry, senior brother said he'll be back today."
Cheng Mo and Xia He strode into the mountain gate in two quick steps.
Several little ones were squatting in the yard playing with pebbles when they heard footsteps and all looked up.
"Senior brother!"
Guoguo was the first to jump up, rushing over like a cannonball and plunging headfirst into Cheng Mo's arms. Duoduo and Yueyue followed closely behind.
Then, they each grabbed Cheng Mo's arms, one on each side. Xiao Guang was a step slower, standing to the side stamping his feet in frustration, before finally grabbing Cheng Mo's leg.
Cheng Mo was so tightly bound by the little ones that he couldn't move. He laughed loudly, "Alright, alright, let go, let go! You're choking me to death!"
The little ones then let go and turned to pounce on Xia He again.
"Sister! Sister!"
Xia He was surrounded by several little ones, and she took out a few lollipops from her pocket and gave them to them.
Cheng Mo glanced around the courtyard and suddenly saw a familiar mouse shadow squatting in the sun at the entrance of the main hall, its tail swishing back and forth.
Cheng Mo exclaimed in surprise, "Uncle-Master? You haven't left yet?"
