Chapter 112 Being handsome can't put food on the table

On the second-floor corridor, Madam Cecilia and several other elderly ladies sat in chairs overlooking the dance floor.

"The young men danced wonderfully, and the young women swayed their hips beautifully too," an elderly woman remarked. "It's as if it's taken this old man back to the past, when many wonderful young men invited me to dance."

"Those handsome young men are now old folks," another noblewoman chimed in, glancing at several gray-haired aristocrats on the dance floor. "But their hearts are still with the young girls."

"Yes, they wish we were dead so they could immediately embrace young girls." The old ladies were quite sarcastic.

Grandma Cecilia laughed and said, "So I'm still the happiest. The old man died before he got old, so he can always leave behind many beautiful memories."

"Yes, the most perfect marriage is one where the husband dies young, or the wife dies young," the old ladies nodded.

He was grumbling.

But the older ladies also turned their attention to the handsome young men.

"Cecilia, is that your son Leo?" An old lady smiled and pointed to Leo, who had just walked onto the dance floor.

"Yes."

"What a great young man! He's sure to attract a lot of girls' attention. Oh, and who's dancing with him?"

"She appears to be the daughter of a nobleman or official."

"It's Judge Na'ando's youngest daughter, Na'Ofina." Old Madam Cecilia knew these young girls very well, because she had invited many of them, essentially organizing a matchmaking event for Leo.

"Judge Nadon? I remember him as quite handsome. No wonder this young lady is so pretty."

Amidst laughter and conversation, a dance ended on the dance floor, and Leo and Naofina returned to their seats.

"It was a pleasure dancing with you, Your Excellency Leo."

"Me too."

"Would you like to jump again?" Naofina blinked and asked expectantly.

Leo refused: "Sorry, the feeling of dancing is always the most enjoyable during the first dance."

That Ophina was good, but not as good as the Countess or Vanessa; she didn't give him any romantic feelings.

Naofina, however, was somewhat unwilling: "But dancing with the right person is never unpleasant, is it? There will be many more dances to choose from, but the right person won't be waiting for every dance, available at any time."

Leo smiled and said, "Miss Ofina, perhaps the next dancer you meet will be even better."

Naofina couldn't smile; she sat in her chair, holding her juice, her brows furrowed.

At this moment, a young gentleman came over and invited Naofina to dance. Naofina immediately looked at Leo, like a proud little swan.

However, she saw that Leo just smiled calmly at her, without any sense of tension or crisis.

Naofina bit her lip, put on a smile, handed her hand to the young gentleman, and went back into the dance floor.

On the second-floor corridor.

Seeing this, the old ladies chuckled and discussed, "Cecilia, your grandson has excellent taste! Even such a beautiful young girl like Ophina couldn't win over Doolittle."

"Who knows? Maybe they just didn't click," said Madam Cecilia modestly.

After all, we invited them ourselves.

But soon, another girl came over and sat next to Leo for a while before reluctantly leaving.

"This little girl isn't very pretty; even Doolittle doesn't invite her to dance," the old ladies commented.

Soon, two more noble ladies sat down next to Leo.

The elderly ladies seemed to have gotten hooked on commenting: "Both of them together, is it fair competition? Oh dear, the little girl on the left wins! Cecilia, do you know this little girl?"

"Of course, it's little Anne. Her father, Anthony, is a well-known and very wealthy merchant in Lancashire."

"So it was the seed tycoon Anthony." An old lady nodded. "His business is indeed very large. Many of the special grains on our family's lands were bought through Anthony's caravans."

The dance ended.

Little Annie was never able to dance with Leo again.

The old ladies laughed and said, "Little Annie is indeed cute, but she lacks a bit of sexiness. Men are most attracted to sexiness, and Dorothy is obviously no exception."

One by one —

The entire ball lasted four hours.

The elderly ladies did not last until the end; one by one, they could not endure it and returned to their rooms to rest.

Madam Cecilia stayed for a long time.

However, as the story progressed, it became clear that her grandson was truly arrogant. Only when girls took the initiative to sit next to him would he reluctantly invite them to dance, and even then, the girls had to be pretty.

But that was all. He didn't invite any of the girls to dance a second time, nor did he chat with any of them for ten minutes.

"That kid!"

Grandma Cecilia was so angry that she went to bed.

Lisa, who had helped organize the ladies' card game, rushed over and, after hearing the news from her grandmother, was also disappointed in them.

"These are the best noble ladies in Lancashire. Is Leo really planning to marry a baron's daughter?" Lisa became angrier as she helped the old lady into bed.

Just then, I saw my father coming over and said goodnight to the old lady.

She then complained, "You need to keep a close eye on Leo! He's only been away for a few days and he's already forgotten his place! Grandmother introduced him to so many girls, but he hasn't liked a single one!"

I thought the Baron would be angry too.

Unexpectedly, the Baron calmly said, "Alright, you and your grandmother don't need to worry about Leo. I will make my own decisions about his marriage."

Lisa wanted to say more.

Grandma Cecilia said, "Since your father has already said so, then forget it, and I'll save myself the trouble."

"Mother, please rest assured, I've spoken with Leo, and we're certain there will be a good outcome for his marriage," the Baron said gently. "I am his father, and I will not abandon him."

Grandma Cecilia nodded: "I hope so. I hope you haven't been bewitched by that vixen and are neglecting the children."

The Baron sighed: "Mother, Sandra is not that kind of person. She cares about the three siblings very much."

"7

"Alright, don't tell me that. Go on, go keep the guests company. I'm going to sleep."

"Then you should get some rest."

Having stayed up a bit late, Leo slept soundly until his personal maid, Doris, knocked on the door, waking him up.

After washing up, they quickly got back to seeing each other off.

Many guests will be leaving today.

Before leaving, Aufina and Anne made a point of saying goodbye to Leo, clearly still fondly remembering him.

Leo's handsome appearance and good family background were his weapons for attracting noble ladies, while his refined conversation and occasional insightful remarks made these noble ladies' hearts flutter.

Unfortunately, the woman was in love, but the man was not.

Seeing this, the eldest brother, Neander, felt a little jealous and teased, "I heard you've broken the hearts of quite a few girls?"

"No," Leo denied. "It was just a meeting, there's no reason to be heartbroken."

Seeing Leo's aloof attitude, Neant was a little annoyed and said indifferently, "Knights rely on strength, good looks can't put food on the table."

Leo smiled.

No answer.

The older brother probably doesn't understand that being handsome can really put food on the table; he's already made a living off his good looks a long time ago.
