Chapter 1 Living for Yourself
"Yangyang, can you transfer some money to Mom?" came the mother's somewhat humble voice.
Lying groggily in bed, still with a splitting headache, Lin Yang frowned and said to his phone, "Didn't I just transfer three thousand to you?"
"Well, Mom wasn't feeling well, so she went to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor said..." the mother said hesitantly.
"Tell the truth!" Lin Yang said impatiently.
"It's...it's your brother. He just graduated and is looking for a job. He wanted to buy a cell phone, so Mom transferred all the money to him. He said he wanted to buy some kind of Apple iPhone, but he didn't have enough money..."
Lin Yang felt a surge of anger rising within him: "He hasn't even found a job yet, hasn't earned a single penny, what does he want to buy an iPhone for? If he's so capable, let him earn the money himself, instead of always asking his family for money like a vampire. He's over twenty, not a teenager."
"What vampire? Yangyang, that's a really harsh thing to say. Haohao is your own brother. Besides, he'll be able to work and earn money soon, he won't have to ask the family for money anymore, and he can even bring money home himself," the mother couldn't help but say.
"Really? Do you even believe that yourself? He's lucky if he can support himself. Expecting him to bring money home? Let's talk about it when he earns some money!" Lin Yang said with a sneer and hung up the phone.
Lin Yang tossed his phone aside, frowned, sat up, and sighed.
When he first entered university, his irresponsible father suddenly absconded with all the family's money.
Their mother was indecisive and unable to support her two sons' education.
Lin Yang has been able to complete his studies by working part-time and receiving scholarships, while also having to support his younger brother's school expenses.
His younger brother, Lin Hao, was cunning and didn't study hard. He only went to a junior college and spent three years there asking his family for money and asking his older brother for money.
His mother was similar; she would only call him when she needed money and never cared whether he was working hard or how he was doing.
Last night was Lin Yang's 25th birthday. Actually, he didn't like celebrating his birthday, but the thought of no one wishing him a happy birthday made him feel lonely and sad, so he went out and ate a bowl of noodles and drank a bottle of beer by himself until he got drunk and vomited everything up.
Lin Yang has a very low alcohol tolerance, so he doesn't usually drink or smoke. It's not that he doesn't like it, but he needs to save money.
He knew early on that making money was not easy, and every penny had to be spent carefully. He would avoid spending money if he could, and save money wherever possible. Over time, he got used to not smoking or drinking.
Lin Yang's OPPO phone, which he had used for over three years and bought for more than two thousand yuan, rang. He frowned, picked it up, hesitated slightly, and then answered the phone.
"Lin Yang, what kind of PowerPoint presentation is this? Do you even want to keep your job?" The company manager's angry roar came through the phone.
Lin Yang, moving his phone away slightly, asked calmly, "Supervisor, you didn't just take it and use it without even looking at it, did you? Can't you even copy homework properly?"
"Lin Yang, are you deliberately messing with me? Let me tell you, if I get fired, you won't have a good time before you leave," the supervisor said through gritted teeth, seething with resentment.
"Whatever," Lin Yang said dismissively, and hung up the phone.
Lin Yang, who tossed the phone aside, felt relieved.
He was paid the salary of an ordinary employee, but he was doing the work for his supervisor. He was fed up with this job a long time ago.
Now he's come to terms with it. Everyone can live without anyone else in this world, and from now on, he has to live for himself.
So, after calling the landlord to terminate the lease, Lin Yang packed his few clothes, took his laptop bag, and left.
He wanted to leave the city, but couldn't decide where to go, so he unknowingly walked onto the overpass spanning the river.
Standing by the railing, watching the river and the occasional boat passing by, Lin Yang felt inexplicably that this city and everything here was so unfamiliar.
It turns out that he had never had a chance to properly see everything here.
Suddenly, a car horn sounded. Lin Yang turned his head and saw a Mercedes-Benz G-Class parked on the side of the road. A tall, slender woman with long legs and wearing black-rimmed glasses got out of the car.
The wind tossed her hair and black trench coat, the tight-fitting clothes outlining her alluring figure.
"What's wrong, feeling down?" The tall, beautiful woman walked straight up to Lin Yang and casually pushed up her glasses, smiling.
"Not at all," Lin Yang said with a slight shake of his head, a hint of amusement in his voice. "I didn't expect to run into President Han here. I thought you had already left!"
"Something came up and I was held up," said the tall and beautiful CEO Han, glancing at the backpack and laptop bag at Lin Yang's feet. "Where are you going? Would you like me to give you a ride?"
"I haven't decided where to go yet," Lin Yang said honestly.
"Haven't thought it through? You're really something. Did you get fired? Or did you break up with your girlfriend and become homeless? Want to leave this place that hurts you?" President Han couldn't help but chuckle.
"I've definitely lost my job, and I really don't have a girlfriend," Lin Yang said.
"It's not easy to get a taxi here. Here, come with me first, and think it over slowly in the car," said Mr. Han.
"Mr. Han, this... isn't it a bit inconvenient?" Lin Yang hesitated slightly.
"What's inconvenient about it? Are you afraid I'll eat you alive?" President Han said, walking directly to the car. "I don't want to stand here in the wind with you. If you're not getting in, I'm leaving!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Yang quickly picked up his backpack and laptop bag, opened the car door, and placed the items on the back seat.
"Sitting in the passenger seat, do you really think I'm your driver?" Just as Lin Yang was about to get into the car, President Han, who had already gotten in and fastened his seatbelt, said this.
Helpless, Lin Yang could only close the back door, step forward, open the passenger door, and get into the car.
Mr. Han started the car and drove away skillfully, quickly increasing his speed.
Lin Yang was surprised that Han Yunshu, who seemed quite ladylike and intellectual, was a rather wild driver; no wonder she drove a Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Perhaps because he had been out in the wind for too long, Lin Yang felt that the car was quite warm after he got in, and there was a pleasant, faint fragrance that didn't seem like perfume.
Before long, the car was on the highway and left the city.
"Have you decided where you want to go?" Han Yunshu asked, breaking the silence in the car.
"I haven't decided yet," Lin Yang's answer made Han Yunshu both amused and exasperated. "What happened to you? Did you have a falling out with your boss?"
Lin Yang nodded without saying anything more, and Han Yunshu continued, "Why don't you come work for me?"
"President Han, we only came into contact because of previous collaborations between our companies. Do you trust me that much?" Lin Yang couldn't help but ask.
"You're overthinking it. I just felt sorry for you," Han Yunshu said, leaving Lin Yang speechless with frustration.
Glancing at Lin Yang and seeing his silence, Han Yunshu couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong? Are you angry? So sensitive? Can't you even take a joke?"
"No, you're right, I also feel pathetic," Lin Yang shook his head and gave a self-deprecating smile, then said, "If you're not in a hurry, could we stop at a service area first? I'm hungry."
"You...didn't eat breakfast?" Han Yunshu asked, somewhat surprised.
Twenty minutes later, at the service area, watching Lin Yang eat heartily, quickly devouring more than half of a large bowl of noodles, Han Yunshu couldn't help but say:
"How many meals have you gone without eating? Even if you lost your job, you shouldn't be starving, right?"
"I threw up what I ate last night," Lin Yang said, making Han Yunshu glad that she hadn't eaten anything yet, otherwise should she continue eating?
