Chapter 26 Stop fighting!

Just as Rudy and Allen locked eyes, and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense.

Suddenly, a sob rang out in the air. A small hand reached out from the side and firmly grasped the hilt of Allen's knife. Sylphie looked at Allen with tears streaming down her face. She tried her best not to avoid his gaze as usual, and stammered but very earnestly said...

"Ai Allen, we're friends, we can't fight."

As Allen grew increasingly dazed, Silphi burst into tears.

Seeing this, he hurriedly sheathed his sword, but because he had only ever frightened children in both his previous and current lives and had little experience in comforting them, he was at a loss for words.

Rudy, snapping out of his daze, glanced speechlessly at the bewildered Allen.

"Alan is quite the impetuous young man; he actually drew his sword against his companion just to determine who was stronger. But it was a reverse-blade sword, so he seems quite calm. Does that mean he's serious about using a duel with me to show Sylphie the power of magic?"

"But it's really scary, Lord Eren! Children really shouldn't carry weapons!"

"So you really want to fight him? Now's not the time to think about that. Let's comfort Sylph first."

Thinking of this, Rudy sighed, revealing an expression of an adult struggling to deal with a child, walked up to the dumbfounded Allen, and took his hand.

With a horrified expression on her face, she pushed Hilfi into Allen's arms.

She even thoughtfully placed Allen's wristband on Hilfi's back.

Allen watched as Rudy completed this series of operations, his pupils dilating in shock, and he was stunned on every level.

Then he heard Rudy lean close to his ear and whisper something.

"Quickly comfort him, tell him to keep going, he can do it!"

Then, Rudy, in a mature manner, got up, put his hands behind his back, stepped back a few paces, sat on the grass, and began to watch the show with his chin in his hand.

It's like an old father watching his children play house.

Allen glanced at Sylphie, who was sobbing in his arms, and then at Rudy, who was cheering him on from the side. His eyes twitched so much that they almost grew wrinkles.

It's really hard to hold back.

-

"Don't cry, we're just having a sparring match! It's not a real fight."

Hilfi covered her face, peeking through her fingers at Allen's stiff expression, and hummed in agreement.

"Why did you suddenly start crying? Eren doesn't like other people crying, so you must never cry again."

She had only known the two of them for less than a day at this point, and since they met earlier than in the novel's storyline, and she was also much younger, she was naturally timid. Compared to the younger version of White Mother, who had already shown signs of becoming a gentle and delicate woman after spending some time with Rudy in the novel, there was still a period of adjustment needed for her to get to know the relationship.

However, he didn't have a long face this time.

Allen blinked, looked at Hilfi and saw that she had calmed down, and breathed a long sigh of relief.

"You can just stand under the tree and watch, okay? I'll have a contest with Rudy, and then I'll show you the power of magic. After you see it, you'll naturally understand the charm of magic."

Hilfi instinctively began to avoid Allen's gaze again, looking at her shoes and letting out a soft "hmm" like a mosquito's buzz.

Allen then pulled the still reluctant Rudy back down the hillside for several dozen meters.

"Alright, this distance is about right."

Allen brandished his gleaming knife at a distance, while Rudy shrank back as he looked at it.

"Are we really going to have a competition?"

Allen rested his chin on his hand and pondered for a moment.

"In the original novel, Rudy only started improving the power of his various low-level magic two years after Loki left. At that point, before we could create a significant power gap, I would have been able to cut off his head instantly. So today, it's more important to show Sylphie the power of magic first. As for the competition, we can take it slow. It's better to first guide Rudy to increase the power of his magic, and also to use mixed magic suitable for the battlefield."

"Let's call it a day then. You'll do the magic, and I'll defend. How about that?"

Rudy's eyes lit up.

"Can!"

Then I heard the second half of Allen's sentence.

"But in two months, I will issue you a serious challenge. So you have two months to study and improve your magic, and then we'll have a contest."

Rudy's face stiffened.

"Is it impossible not to have a competition?"

Allen's expression turned serious.

"No, have you thought about your future?"

Rudy was taken aback.

"The future? Maybe I'll marry a beautiful but insecure girl and live a peaceful life. It would be nice to see Luo Qixi often. But probably not; I don't know when I'll see her again."

"When we parted, Luo Qixi told me that her goal was to become a Water God-level magician. What about you?"

Rudy looked up in surprise.

"Water God Level"

"Do you long to reunite with Loki?"

Rudy didn't speak, but his gaze gradually turned serious as he stared intently at Allen.

The latter smiled.

"It seems you have your answer."

Allen held up two fingers.

"Her lifespan is two hundred years, and she's only in her thirties now. If, in ten years or so, you grow up and enter your prime, a quarter of your lifespan, and she's still only a quarter of her lifespan, just like you, then how do you plan to face her again? As a married country magician? Or a successful adventurer? Or a top student at a magic university? Have you considered these possibilities? These could lead to completely different futures. Have you mentally prepared yourself for that?"

Rudy didn't answer; he simply raised his arm silently, placing his other hand on his elbow, revealing a composed expression.

"I accepted your challenge two months from now, so shouldn't we first demonstrate the power of magic to Sylphie?"

Allen looked at Rudy's expression and a subtle smile appeared on his lips.

"That's a really nice expression."

Allen raised his hand to press the knife, his body lowered, his feet firmly planted on the grass, and his expression turned indifferent.

"Let's begin now, you attack, I defend."

Rudy took a deep breath.

"Okay. Well then, I'll begin."

"Magic—Water Cannon, Size: 10! Speed: 10! Lord Allen, I'm angry! Please accept this attack filled with rage!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Rudy's silent magic was instantly activated. Gurgling, crystal-clear water was drawn out of thin air and condensed in front of his hand like a vortex. In the blink of an eye, the water surged and swept across his palm like a raging wave.

next moment.

The water surged around him, creating layers of dust, and then a jet of water that almost covered his body shot out from in front of him! The powerful impact whipped Rudy's hair into the air, and he couldn't help but take a step back, his heart suddenly pounding with fear.

"Oh no, I used too much force, Allen!"

He quickly looked up, but his pupils suddenly contracted.

This moment was etched in his mind, and he would recall it from time to time even years later:

A water column a meter in diameter surged forward like a thunderbolt, completely obscuring Allen's figure from his sight. For a moment, even the sunlight seemed to freeze, flashing a sudden arc of light in Rudy's pupils.

Rudy's face had just begun to show panic.

The water column then split open.

In front of Allen, it floated up and burst vertically, like a balloon filled with air.

Smooth, without a single ripple.

Immediately afterwards, a seemingly weightless column of water suddenly poured down beside Allen, carving two deep furrows into the ground!

The grassy ground was completely ripped away by the water jet, revealing the ugly mud ruts underneath.

A gust of wind blew by.

The grass beneath Allen's feet was intact, playfully wrapping around his calves. He held the knife, still in the same posture, without the slightest sign of changing his position.

The ripples left by the water column splashed around Allen, casting a hazy halo of sunlight around him.

Allen smiled.

"Good, let's do it again."

Rudy just stared at him blankly, his expression dazed.

At that moment, he felt that the smile in Allen's eyes was even clearer than the sunlight reflected off the water.
