Chapter 498 The Philosopher Among the Ancient Gods

Satogua looked down at his body, which was riddled with holes from the explosion. The wounds were still glowing with a golden aura, which suppressed his regenerative abilities. He then looked at Bai Lin with a very complicated expression.

"Mortal, you have greatly intrigued old Satogia, to be able to wield the magic of order to such an extent... reaching the level of some self-important fellows..." Satogia's tone did not contain any negative emotions about failure and pain, and even had some joy.

"The entire universe is maintained by order. Even you ancient gods need order to maintain your form in the real world, don't you?" Bai Lin stared intently at Satogua, wary of what new tricks the other party might suddenly come up with.

He should have pressed his advantage and completely annihilated his opponent to prevent a counterattack, but a gut feeling stopped him. He had a premonition that this third-rate ancient god had many secrets worth uncovering.

"You found out, oh well~" Satogua grinned, and at the same time, his body quickly turned gray. In just a few seconds, he turned into dust and ashes in front of Bai Lin and scattered in the wind.

Then, on the obsidian block next to him, a large tumor seemed to suddenly grow, and a brand new Satogua was born from it. Not only were all his wounds healed, but he was also wearing a smart Earth suit and an elegant bow tie around his neck, like a European nobleman attending a banquet.

"Your attacks cannot harm me on my ray ship..." Satogua tilted his head gracefully, smiled at Bai Lin, and then stretched out his hand, the fine sand condensing into an image in his palm.

It was a somewhat bloated giant, similar in shape to a ray found on the seabed of Earth, but slightly more bloated. On the ray's head were hundreds or thousands of dark blue eyeballs of various sizes, and its body was covered with countless large mouths, which were swallowing up the surrounding dust and sand.

"If this ray ship were to reach Earth, it could easily destroy half of Earth's civilization," Satogua said calmly.

Bai Lin was quite shocked. It turned out that the sandy plain he was in was actually on the back of a huge ancient god-like giant ship. He couldn't help but look at the distant mountains and rivers. After a little measurement, he realized that this ancient god-like beast was at least 150 kilometers long and 60 to 70 kilometers wide. This was not a spaceship at all. It was simply a planet devourer that could freely travel between stars.

Let alone whether Earth's weapons could harm this "ray," just the fact that it crashed into the Earth would be enough to trigger a cataclysmic apocalypse. Keep in mind that the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs was only 10-15 kilometers in diameter, yet it left an impact crater 180 kilometers in diameter and 20 kilometers deep on Earth, ultimately causing the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event.

The threat from Satogua was not unfounded. Bai Lin believed that even if the divine relics on the moon were activated and the "Guardians" such as Orisaga were summoned, the disaster could only be slightly reduced. The annihilation of most of Earth's civilization would be inevitable.

"I know what you're thinking, mortal. All these years I've wandered the outer reaches of the solar system, not because of any constraints preventing me from invading Earth, but because I've realized something: what is the meaning of our existence as ancient gods?" Satogua frowned slightly and posed a question that made Bai Lin's jaw drop.

"Devouring the entire universe?" Bai Lin shrugged, indicating that he couldn't empathize with Satoguya's soul-searching question.

Satogua chuckled and said, "Mortals, you may think that the Ancient Gods are monsters that expand infinitely, devour, and assimilate, evil beings completely out of control of their desires. But have you ever considered that countless eras ago, the Ancient Gods were also deities worshipped and venerated by countless civilizations and races throughout the universe..."

"And then they were defeated by the God of Order?" Bai Lin couldn't help but interject. He knew very little about the history of the ancient gods, and vaguely felt that the ancient gods shouldn't just be mindless monsters that ate everything. What made the ancient gods become what they are today?

"I've gone off on a tangent," Satoguya paused, lost in his memories for a moment, seemingly unwilling to delve into the glorious history of the ancient gods. "So what if we destroy Earth? So what if we fight them again? Winning would just mean swallowing a few more planets. The Milky Way alone has four hundred billion stars and trillions of planets. How many are they protecting? We can't devour them all!"

"Is Earth special?" Bai Lin scratched the back of his head and asked tentatively.

"It is indeed very special, but not unique. The sun goddess... oh, you call her Xihe, once adjusted the Earth's orbit, rotational tilt, magnetic field, satellites, and so on. It can be said that she devoted a lot of effort to it, but they abandoned it and went far away. It's really hard for me to understand." Satoguya said incessantly.

"If they're happy with how they've shaped Earth, why don't they create a few more Earths in other star systems?"

"If they're not satisfied with how they've shaped the Earth, why bother with all those protective mechanisms to safeguard it?"

"If they were interested in Earth, why didn't they continue observing its evolution, and instead simply disappeared?"

"If they weren't interested in Earth, why did they create so many duplicate dimensions and synchronize dozens of Earth samples?"

Satogua fired off a series of questions, leaving Bai Lin somewhat bewildered. This guy had been drifting around the solar system for thousands of years, and his head was indeed full of a hundred thousand "whys".

"I'm afraid I can't answer that for you." Bai Lin shrugged. This series of discussions had dissipated most of his hostility towards Satogua. This guy might not be a hostile "Ancient God" in the traditional sense, but rather more like a "scientist" or "philosopher" among the "Ancient God" race.

"I think Earth is just bait!" Satoguia suddenly said with a serious expression, his tone harsh and even somewhat resentful, "A bait used to lure us ancient gods into a trap!"

"Your deduction is truly unexpected..." Bai Lin said, somewhat amused and exasperated. After thinking for thousands of years, this is the conclusion you came to?

"So I've been waiting, waiting for other ancient gods to be unable to resist taking the bait~" Satogua said, somewhat smugly.

"Look, Cthulhu from 10,000 years ago, that big, dumb guy, fell for it. Now his life or death is unknown. Regardless of whether he lives or dies, he's probably become a lab rat they put in test tubes for research," Satoguya said, giving an example.

"Hastur is much smarter. Look at him, he doesn't go into battle himself, but sends a little brother to test the waters. That idiot Grakua actually thinks he can be a mountain king and rule his own territory. He's utterly foolish." Satoguya made no attempt to hide his contempt for Grakua.
