Rebirth 05: From Coal Mine Owner to Mobile Phone Tycoon

Chapter 33 Is this mainland guy an idiot?

The driver wasn't embarrassed at all.

"Are you here for tourism or business? You look like a big boss."

"Master has good eyesight; he can even tell that."

"You came out with Zhou Mei, right? I can see her. Her eyesight is exceptionally good."

"Wow, you can see that? You can recognize me even with sunglasses on?!"

"Are you going to the peninsula?"

A peninsula? That works too!

Lu Yuan nodded.

The driver stepped on the gas and dropped the person off at the hotel entrance.

They took the fare and ran away.

When he got out of the car, Lu Yuan could hear the other person muttering softly.

"I thought I could scam him out of some money, but it turns out he's a pro."

Lu Yuan was both amused and exasperated. At least go some distance before talking about it; he hadn't left yet.

I checked in with my ID card and cash.

When he took out the money, the waiter was taken aback.

They still let me check in.

When handing Lu Yuan the room key, she kindly reminded him, "Sir, mainland money isn't very useful in Hong Kong. Some places don't accept it. You should find a place to exchange it for Hong Kong dollars."

This was something Lu Yuan hadn't expected.

"Can I exchange some here? I just need to exchange a small amount to go get some food. I'll go to the bank to exchange it tomorrow!"

The waiter nodded.

"We do offer this service, but the exchange rate will be slightly higher than at the bank. How much do you need to exchange?"

Lu Yuan calculated the exchange rate.

"It's alright, just exchange three thousand Hong Kong dollars for me first, I'll use it for now, and I'll exchange the rest tomorrow."

The waiter nodded and immediately exchanged the money for him.

"We also have some restaurants in our hotel; you could try them out, sir."

He handed her a small booklet containing information about the hotel and its restaurants.

Lu Yuan accepted the money and booklet, thanked them, went upstairs to put down his luggage, and then prepared to go out to try some local specialties.

There are sea view rooms on the peninsula, so Lu Yuan booked one. The view was indeed beautiful, but he only glanced at it and didn't look at it again.

His rumbling stomach reminded him that it was time to go downstairs for dinner.

I wandered around after leaving the hotel.

He saw a small restaurant filled with Hong Kong signs, a place he had visited alone in his past life.

It's a pity that all the brothers who were with me are gone.

All my brothers are here in this life, but it's a pity I still have to come and eat by myself.

"What would you like to eat, guests?"

An old woman came over to ask Lu Yuan a question as soon as he entered the store.

"One serving of rice noodle rolls, one serving of siu mai, and one bowl of shark's fin soup, please!"

Upon hearing his mainland accent, the old woman paused for a moment, but quickly recovered and went to prepare the meal.

A young man at the next table came over in a nonchalant manner.

"Mainland boy?"

Mandarin with a strong Hong Kong accent.

Feeling awkward, Lu Yuan asked him in Cantonese, "What's your surname? What's the matter?"

The young man seemed surprised that Lu Yuan appeared even more arrogant than him.

"This area is under my protection, Ah Biao's protection. I won't allow any mainlanders here! Get out of here right now!"

Lu Yuan scoffed.

Do young people these days all like to watch the Young and Dangerous movies?

"Why should I? Because you're wearing a floral shirt or because your slippers are so worn out?"

Lu Yuan looked him up and down, while A Biao turned his head away in annoyance.

"Ah Biao, young people who have just arrived may not have anywhere to eat, so what's wrong with having a meal here?"

The old woman brought over the food and saw Ah Biao sitting in front of Lu Yuan, so she knew he was trying to get rid of the guest.

Ah Biao was somewhat dissatisfied.

After the old woman put down the plate she was carrying, he pulled her aside and whispered something to her.

Lu Yuan can understand Cantonese and speak it, but he's not very fluent. Once they're far apart, it's all for naught, and he can't understand it at all.

I don't know what the old woman said, but Ah Biao glared at Lu Yuan hatefully, then turned and left.

The old woman approached Lu Yuan and said in Cantonese, "You can eat here. It's normal for many people who come here to be poor."

Lu Yuan was a little dazed. Did he look like someone who was broke?

Is it because of this that this guy named A Biao is so angry?

This small restaurant is already not profitable, and if we add feeding people who don't want to work here, it won't make any money at all.

"Thank you, Grandma."

Lu Yuan responded with a smile, blaming himself for not paying attention and making people think he was there to ask for a free meal.

However, he couldn't let the old woman down because of her kindness.

It must be said that the old lady's cooking skills were excellent. Lu Yuan ate to his heart's content and put several hundred yuan on the table.

After he left, the old woman came to tidy up her things and looked at the money on the table, somewhat shocked.

This young man is rich, but he can't possibly spend that much.

When Ah Biao returned at this moment, he saw the old woman standing there and thought she had been bullied, so he immediately got angry.

"Was it that person who bullied you? I'm going to find him now!"

"No, look!"

Ah Biao was stunned when he saw the money on the table, never expecting to receive so much.

"Ah Biao, give the extra money to that young man; the old lady can't accept it!"

Ah Biao wanted to refuse, but the old woman insisted, so he had no choice but to take the money out. However, he didn't know the person's name, where he came from, or where to find him!

He was wandering aimlessly when he unexpectedly ran into Lu Yuan, who was also strolling around.

"Hey, you overpaid for the meal, the old lady wants me to pay you back!"

Ah Biao walked up to Lu Yuan and reluctantly handed him the money.

Lu Yuan smiled as he looked at the young man in front of him, but did not accept the offer.

Although he has blond hair and looks like he has a bad temper, he also has his own set of principles.

"This money is for Grandma's meals."

"The old lady didn't need that much money for the meal; she kept the money she was entitled to."

Ah Biao was a stubborn fellow; he held his hand up, as if to say, "If you don't take it, I won't let you leave."

Lu Yuan sighed.

"I saw that the old lady was already charging little money for her products, and she also provided free meals to people in need. I thought this few hundred dollars would be part of the meal expenses for those people."

"The old lady is kind-hearted; we can't let her bear all this."

"Don't let my background fool you; I'm from the mainland. Look at my clothes, I don't look like someone who's short of money, do I?"

"It's fine if I contribute a little more; it doesn't affect my livelihood, but it will improve Grandma's life!"

Ah Biao hesitated for the first time.

He didn't like the old lady helping people casually, but she seemed happy doing it. She was so old, so he figured he should take care of her more.

"Grandma helped those people voluntarily, and she was happy to do so. You don't need to give her money; I will take care of her daily life."

"Then consider it my donation to the old lady. Count me in, and I hope she can use this money to help more people."

Having said all that, Ah Biao knew he couldn't persuade this mainland boy, so he didn't refuse anymore.

He didn't have a good reason to refuse, and he believed that the old lady would agree if she knew.

After pocketing the money, Ah Biao turned and left, muttering, "Is this mainland kid an idiot? He just gave money away for nothing."

Lu Yuan's lips twitched.

Let's at least get some distance before talking about it.
