A certain Hogwarts professor of runes
Chapter 157 The Beginning of the Holiday
Chapter 159 The Beginning of the Holiday
During the holidays, Hogwarts was quiet, and the plants in the courtyard grew lushly, like a richly colored oil painting.
But without the chattering students carrying their books, the scene always felt somewhat lifeless.
This made the ghost, who was originally very inconspicuous, suddenly conspicuous. Felix could always catch a glimpse of the silvery-white transparent shadow flashing by in the corner of his eye on his way to the library.
Besides these ghosts who have long resided at Hogwarts, some professors also stayed behind. These included Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, and Sybil Trelawney.
The deserted school led to more frequent interactions among the professors. During one small gathering, a tipsy Trelawney insisted on making a prophecy for Felix—
"It's ominous, I've seen something ominous..."
Felix watched her quietly, while Trelawney stared wide-eyed at a sherry bottle, examining it closely.
"Sybil, you're drunk." Professor McGonagall's cheeks were flushed; she had also had some wine.
"No, I didn't! I saw... a huge black dog! With a black army that blotted out the sky, completely enveloping you." Trelawney draped one arm over McGonagall and tapped Felix's chest with the other, hiccuping as she said, "This is a turning point in your life. To... to know more, please pay 3 Galleons."
Professor McGonagall mouthed, "Before starting this job, you were a fortune teller." She waved her wand and tossed Trelawney onto the sofa, whereupon a small blanket flew over and covered her.
A big black dog? Felix thought for a moment, was it Toothpick or the Cerberus Louie?
I did have the idea of going to see Cerberus with Hagrid, but I didn't tell anyone.
Professor Flitwick used magic to transform cups into various small animals, and soon Professor McGonagall and Felix joined in. They played a game of Quidditch on a table using their wands.
As he emerged, a summer breeze carrying the rich fragrance of osmanthus blossoms swept by, instantly clearing Felix's eyes.
A week into his holiday, he returned to his London cottage a few days ago, visited a few ordinary friends, and then went back to Hogwarts.
At this moment, he arrived at the top of the spiral staircase on the west side of the castle and stood at the entrance to the Ravenclaw common room.
A bronze eagle door knocker blocked his way; apart from that, there was no doorknob or keyhole.
This is a unique feature of Ravenclaw College—the entrance to the common room doesn't have a password; instead, there's a riddle on the door knocker. If you answer the question correctly, it will make way and welcome you in.
Felix gently knocked on the door knocker, and the eagle's beak immediately opened. Instead of emitting a hawk's cry, it spoke in a gentle, musical voice: "Which comes first, tomorrow or an accident?"
Felix said seriously, "It depends on how much preparation you do 'today'."
"That makes sense." After the voice finished speaking, the door opened.
The Ravenclaw lounge was empty. Felix surveyed the round room, its interior decorated in a fairytale style—primarily in blue and bronze tones, with stars painted on the dome and dark blue carpet, and brightly colored silks hanging from the elegant arched windows.
Felix went to the window, where the view was excellent. From this vantage point, he could clearly see the school's Black Lake and Forbidden Forest, and in the distance, he could see the surrounding mountains.
The room contained tables, chairs, and bookshelves, and a tall white marble statue stood in a niche opposite the door.
That was a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw. He looked at it for a moment, then his gaze fell on a bookshelf.
Inside the bookshelf, on one of the shelves, stands a one-foot-tall statue of a slender woman, her head slightly raised, gazing calmly ahead.
The statue was rather rough, even the figure's face was quite blurry, but fortunately there was a gilded nameplate in front of her with a line of text: "In memory of the Ravenclaw Ghost—Ms. Grey, student memento, March 7, 1993."
Felix couldn't help but smile.
After a moment, he came to his senses, remembered the purpose of his trip, and began to examine the magical traces on the bookshelf. In the Room of Requirement, Madam Ravenclaw's memories mentioned that she had left some hidden magical legacy in the Ravenclaw common room, waiting for future generations to discover it.
Felix decided to give it a try and see if he could find something interesting.
His conversation with Ms. Ravenclaw was too brief, which is regrettable.
Felix stroked the patterns on the bookshelf, but found nothing. He then went to the other bookshelves to examine them carefully, and finally, on the third bookshelf, he sensed a very subtle magical fluctuation.
He tentatively used his magic to touch the magical barrier, finding no danger. But it seemed to be hidden in the air, and Felix struggled to pull it out.
A milky white light burst forth in the air, and the next second, his vision blurred, then everything returned to normal.
He was still standing in the Ravenclaw common room, as if the light he had just seen was just an illusion.
But the books on the shelf suddenly became fatally attractive to him, and a voice in his head told him: I want to read all the books on the shelf, and I can do it.
This thought and emotion came out of nowhere, as if they had been suddenly planted in my brain.
"This is?"
As a newly minted master of memory magic, Felix quickly suppressed his intense desire and carefully analyzed and pondered the magic.
"It's very similar to my Mind House, which also pulls people into a world of thought. However, Ms. Ravenclaw's approach is much more sophisticated than mine, extending the timeframe and minimizing side effects..."
He casually flipped through the books on the shelf; they were all ordinary, nothing particularly profound. So he turned his attention to studying the fictional Ravenclaw common room where he was.
He couldn't detect a single flaw.
"How interesting. I never thought I'd be pulled into a mind-room by someone else." Felix chuckled softly, his fingers moving rapidly as magical symbols appeared out of thin air.
"Well, it's normal that Ms. Ravenclaw has a very deep understanding of ancient runes; she lived during a time of transition between the old and the new."
Ten, a hundred... Soon, the number reached five hundred, and it kept increasing... This was Felix's harvest in a year at the Hogwarts Library.
Then, Felix reached out his hand, and with a thought, dozens or even hundreds of magical symbols instantly flew to his hand, forming a mysterious pattern, with blazing flames bursting from his fingertips.
The whole world suddenly began to shake violently.
Felix withdrew the ancient magic and waved his hand, causing all the magical symbols to disappear. "That was close, I almost destroyed this place."
He then cautiously continued to try and probe the magical treasures left behind by Ravenclaw.
Time passed little by little.
After an unknown amount of time, he was kicked out by a magical barrier.
Felix looked out the window; it was already evening. "I've probably been inside for several days, and I'm not even that tired..."
"Very good, this has shown me the way forward for my thinking cabin."
"Moreover, this method of suddenly pulling people in is very clever; I didn't even notice it. Memory magic, memory magic..."
"There is great potential."
Chapter Two is being revised. In about ten minutes, I will release Chapter One first.
