Chapter 164 Attack

As evening fell, strangely dressed wizards appeared in various corners of the hotel. Felix stood in the hotel garden, watching several wizards climb a small hill.

He caught a glimpse of Maxwell talking to a serious-looking woman out of the corner of his eye, and he seemed quite impatient.

"This is France, Celeste! Not America, and you can't use your position as head of the Legislative Council to order me around!"

The witch known as Celeste had a refined and serious face, and her attire was impeccable, without a single flaw.

She was like a capable government official who had just arrived from a Muggle government office building dozens of kilometers away to participate in a visit to the slums.

Especially since several wizards dressed in pleated skirts and wearing iris hats were standing next to her, pointing and gesturing at the automatic sprinkler with serious expressions, which further convinced her of her identity.

At that moment, flames seemed to shoot out from her gray pupils. She pursed her lips, restraining herself from saying anything hurtful, but her response remained firm: "The law is an inviolable bottom line, and we must do something."

"We'll handle it," Maxwell said curtly, emphasizing the word "we" as if to remind the woman across from him that they had a completely different understanding of the word.

The two parted on bad terms.

Felix strode over, the French Auror still wearing an angry expression.

"She's so arrogant, she thinks I'm her subordinate!"

"Who is she?" Felix asked.

"A difficult woman, Noel Celeste, the top legislator of the Magical Congress of the United States."

"What does she want to do?"

"Have the Americans send Aurors over, ostensibly to assist in combating potential criminals," Maxwell said sternly.

Felix clicked his tongue in amazement. This request was indeed excessive, practically a direct insult to the French Ministry of Magic: "You guys are trash, I don't trust you, I'm sending my own people."

"If she wasn't comfortable with that, why didn't she just hold the meeting in the US from the start?" Felix asked, having asked a similar question before.

"Factional infighting? Unspeakable difficulties? Anyway, from what I understand, quite a few people oppose her..."

Felix asked perceptively, "Who are the opponents?"

"Uh... I don't remember." Maxwell looked embarrassed and muttered under his breath, "The department prepared some materials for me, including various clippings and stuff, and they're in my room, but I haven't looked at them closely... Do you want to take a look?"

"Thank you, Maxwell, if it's convenient for you."

"Haha, we've become friends through a misunderstanding, and your taste in food is a perfect match for mine. I love beef stew in red wine," Maxwell joked.

The previous slight misunderstanding disappeared just like that.

On the second day, the day before the conference officially began, even more wizards arrived; roughly speaking, the number had exceeded one hundred.

One of the consequences was that the hotel staff looked at them even more strangely.

"Tell me, what kind of strange organization are you, like a 'crossdressing fetish' or something?" The hotel receptionist chatted with Felix. Among these people, only a few were dressed normally, and Felix was the youngest and most handsome among them.

"You can absolutely understand it that way," he said, lest you actually figure it out and get knocked out by a forgetfulness spell.

Soon, he spotted Professor Bubbaji. He went up to her, took the small box from her hands, and said, "You're a little later than I expected."

Bubba sighed. "I revised my presentation paper for the conference, and I've been struggling with it for the past few days."

Felix led Professor Bubbaggie to her room, and the two chatted along the way—

"You're advocating for wizards to marry werewolves?" Felix asked in surprise.

“It’s not just werewolves,” Bubbaji corrected. “I see the advantages of hybrids. I suggest that purebloods intermarry with hybrids, Muggles, and even some humanoid creatures.”

Felix's expression was somewhat stiff. He leaned against the door and after a long while finally spoke, "What theoretical basis do you have?"

Professor Bubbaji said, "This inspiration came from Muggle books, although the Muggle named Mendel used peas as the material for his experiments. But... I also looked up a lot of wizarding information, and it's true that half-blood wizards have achieved more in the last hundred years."

Felix was having a bit of a headache; he didn't know how to advise his colleague.

Her theory, once put forward, was tantamount to detonating a nuclear bomb.

Moreover, whether the theory is correct is still debatable, but it will definitely be met with fierce resistance from pure-blood families all over the world.

"Professor Bubbaji," Felix said tactfully, "given the current climate in the wizarding world, most wizards aren't psychologically prepared to accept this theory. Perhaps we can change the subject a little and approach it from a safer angle."

Professor Bubbaji looked at him and said softly, "What's your suggestion?"

"Using the current self-imposed isolation of the magical world as a point of attack, we should call on the magic ministries of various countries to focus their attention on the outside world, Muggle technology, novel theories, and even limited cooperation with Muggle governments; or from the perspective of ordinary wizards, we should encourage young graduates to engage in social practice in the Muggle world, at least to gain some work experience..."

"Most wizards have long been out of touch with society."

Felix also cited the example of Karami, "After graduating, he went to study at a Muggle institution of higher learning, and perhaps a few years later, he will be the authority on Muggle issues in the French magical world."

Bubbaji pondered.

Felix advised, "This aligns with the theme of this meeting, and once the snowball is formed, even the most stubborn pure-blood families will be swept up by the tides of time."

"But..." Bubbaje wasn't very satisfied with this statement. Although she was a professor of Muggle studies, she didn't think the two could cooperate, or rather, there was a need for them to cooperate.

She simply saw the irrationality of the pure-blood ideology in the wizarding world and then proposed her own solution.

……

The meeting officially began the next day, July 20.

Noel Celeste, as the representative of the International Federation of Wizards and the initiator of the conference, presided over the entire meeting, but she seemed distracted.

She kept looking in one direction, at a tall, weathered man. Every few minutes, he would go out and come back, making a gesture to her.

As representatives from various countries took the stage to speak, Felix grew somewhat drowsy.

It's hard to imagine that these outdated ideas came from one of the most prominent groups of Muggle experts today.

The only amusement was when a wizard raised the "Muggle threat theory," a German wizard angrily denounced him as a "remnant of Grindelwald" and threw shoes at him.

Perhaps Bubbaje's views will be drowned out by this endless stream of irrelevant posts... Felix thought.

"Professor Bubbaje, what is your speaking order?"

"There are two more wizards ahead of me."

Soon, Professor Bubbaje stood on the stage. She cleared her throat and wore a tragic expression. Felix knew then that she hadn't listened to his advice.

But just then, the weathered-looking man rushed in, shouting, "Attack!!!"

"Boom!"

A huge explosion occurred behind him.
