A certain Hogwarts professor of runes
Chapter 198 Test
Chapter 200 Test
At four o'clock the next morning, Felix opened his eyes groggily, his head buzzing as if a crucible spoon was stabbing into his brain and stirring it.
He got out of bed and floated lightly to the bathroom.
His face was flushed in the mirror, as if he had just been pulled out of boiling water. He muttered, "The side effects of the Mind Chamber came on really fast."
Last night, in order to buy time to deduce the incomplete runes on the rune orb, he forcibly increased the operating speed of the Mind Chamber, and now the side effects are coming his way.
He had anticipated this.
He came out of the bathroom, glanced at the thick darkness outside the window, drank a large cup of medicine, and his fever quickly subsided, but he was still weak and listless.
Felix lay in bed until ten o'clock, the constant throbbing in his head making him lose his appetite and unable to even think quietly. He decided to go for a walk, at least to get some cool air.
Before he knew it, he had arrived at the edge of the Forbidden Forest. Felix squinted as he made a choice between the Forbidden Forest and Hagrid's Hut.
"Since we're here, why don't we... test the scaling spell?" He was just too curious.
Felix hesitated for only two seconds before slowly walking into the Forbidden Forest. However, he put on a trench coat and lightly touched his chest with his finger, causing the coat to shimmer with magical light.
The trench coat is lined with basilisk skin and covered with fire dragon skin. Under Felix's meticulous tanning, numerous magical runes and defensive spells were added, resulting in a light and flowing garment.
The air in the forbidden forest was warm and humid, which improved his mental state, and his gaze kept wandering around.
"Give me a Tepo warthog, Red Hat will do too," Felix thought expectantly.
He followed a steep, stone path downhill, when he suddenly remembered that he had found the large claw of an eight-eyed giant spider here last school year.
He had intended to use the giant claw to make a magic engraving knife, but it had dried up and couldn't even leave a trace of magic. Besides, he was busy with other things and forgot about it altogether.
A rustling sound arose, and Felix looked up to find himself surrounded by more than a dozen enormous spiders, which were clearly ready to pounce.
Eight-eyed giant spider...
"It's so great to have met you all," Felix said sincerely.
The giant spider opposite him kept fiddling with its large pincers, making a "click-clack" sound. He could even hear the sound of its stiff black hairs rubbing against the ground.
Felix held his ebony wand casually in his hand, showing no sign of unleashing a powerful spell, but a light blue halo had quietly appeared on his left hand as he continuously poured magic into it, which instantly twisted into a spherical vortex.
At the edge of the vortex, one can faintly see flickering magical runes—the spherical vortex is the magical manifestation of the hollowed-out sphere of magical runes.
The nearest eight-eyed giant spider, about the size of a small elephant, had already jumped into the air.
Felix stretched out his hand flatly.
Above his palm, a spherical vortex began to spin violently, and hundreds of blue magical energies inside suddenly expanded, enveloping Felix and forming a spherical barrier with a diameter of twenty feet.
These magical forces spun rapidly around him, weaving a beautiful magical net.
The spherical vortex in Felix's hand had turned colorless and transparent, and a terrifying suction force surged from its interior, tearing the eight-eyed giant spider in mid-air off without any resistance.
Upon encountering the outermost blue light, it slowed down and shrank in size. This process likely lasted less than a second before it disappeared completely, like a pebble dropped into a puddle.
Felix leaned closer to examine it closely. In the colorless, transparent vortex, a tiny spider, no bigger than a mung bean, was swiping its large claws and spinning around.
The powerful suction in the vortex had no effect on Felix, but it was real and continued to extend outward.
"Snap!"
A large tree snapped in half and flew toward him in a whirlwind. When it came within three meters of him, it shrunk rapidly into a toothpick and, along with an eight-eyed giant spider clinging to it, was thrown into a spherical vortex.
Not only trees and giant eight-eyed spiders, but also stones the size of human heads were drawn towards him with a whooshing sound. Soil, dead branches... all sorts of strange things flew towards him from the center.
Felix thought for a moment and began to consciously control the magic. The swirling wind around him disappeared, and the swaying branches slowly quieted down, but the suction force from the vortex was all concentrated on the remaining eight-eyed giant spiders.
They somersaulted and flew back in various postures, only to be thrown into the whirlpool all at once.
There were twelve in total, and not one of them escaped.
Felix examined the miniature world in his hands with great interest.
He tried to stop the rapidly spinning vortex, and it obediently quieted down, the outer layer of magic returning to the spherical vortex and rotating gently.
He was holding a transparent sphere, inside which was a blue magical energy like ribbons, which stretched freely and floated lightly.
The prisoners inside the spherical vortex—twelve giant eight-eyed spiders—rolled helplessly, one of them barely managing to grab onto an ancient tree the size of a toothpick, its large claws twisting wildly.
Felix summarized the information gathered so far—
First of all, although only the shrinking effect of the magic was tested and the enlargement effect has not been fully tested, it can be confirmed that it is undoubtedly a scaling spell and not some random thing. This made him breathe a sigh of relief and the biggest weight in his heart was lifted.
Secondly, the effects of the magic are exaggerated;
The spherical vortex provides powerful suction; the magic residing within expands into a net, shrinking everything.
"The eight-eyed giant spider isn't weak, but it's completely defenseless, which means most creatures in the Forbidden Forest are no match for this magic."
Felix stared at the barren open space within a ten-foot radius, where even the ground was lower, revealing damp, brown soil. This was only after he had realized what was happening and shifted his focus to the eight-eyed giant spider.
"It should work really well on magical creatures; we won't have to worry about being ganged up on anymore. As for wizards..." he analyzed in his mind, a sharp pain shooting through his head again. "Hiss~"
Felix stopped, looked around the scene, and decided to wait until he was free from the side effects of the mind hut before conducting a deeper analysis.
"Next comes the most important part—"
He flicked his fingers, and an eight-eyed giant spider was thrown out of the vortex. Under his control, its body rapidly expanded, and after a dozen seconds, it had returned to its original size.
The giant spider raised its head, and the terrifying wizard was examining it, muttering strange words, "I can't see any problems, no deformities, no pustules, it really worked."
