A certain Hogwarts professor of runes

Chapter 200 Time Converter

Chapter 202 Time Converter

"What's wrong? You seemed a little angry when you came in," Felix said. He looked much the same as yesterday, except for the wide-brimmed dark brown top hat he was wearing.

"Professor, I already know what that 'interesting' rune is." Hermione emphasized, this word full of wicked humor was what Professor Hyp suggested last night when he suggested that she try to discover the power of a single rune herself.

"Tell me about it, and I'll see if you're right." Felix's lips curled into a smile.

"It's URUZ, representing the power of the bison." She uttered a strange sound, a faint white light covering her hands, and looked at him with hostility.

"Just as I thought... cough cough! Something interesting must have happened to you," Felix said.

"It was really interesting! I got up early this morning and avoided everyone, trying out spell runes in a corner of the common room. Some failed, some succeeded..." Her face scrunched up, looking confused and puzzled. "I don't know why, but Fred and George also sneaked out early, tiptoeing around like they were hiding from someone."

"Well……"

"I was using this spell at the time, and when I heard them walking, I lost control and I—I—" Hermione said with a look of annoyance, "I broke the armrest of the chair right in front of them."

Felix suppressed a laugh and reassured her, "It's not a big deal; only the two of them saw it."

“It’s not anymore,” Hermione said sadly. “They told Lee Jordan.”

Lee Jordan is the school's Quidditch commentator, known for his loud mouth. Felix watched several Quidditch matches last year and was quite impressed with him.

"Everything will pass, well, maybe," Felix changed the subject. "Let's get down to business today—well, we won't be teaching in the Mind Hut today; it's under renovation and too noisy."

Hermione looked at him blankly. What was the professor saying?

"...Unlocking the power of individual runes allows you to better understand the runes themselves; otherwise, mastering a large number of runes is of little use. This is also my recent insight."

As Felix spoke, a fiery red magic symbol appeared from the tip of his index finger and bounced past the little witch.

When the rune returned to his palm, Felix grabbed it tightly. Hermione suspected that Professor Hyp had crushed the little thing, but he slowly opened his palm, and a small flame was burning quietly.

"That's about right."

Hermione, who was initially a little dissatisfied, was completely captivated by the new knowledge and soon began to ask one question after another.

Under his guidance, Hermione mastered the runes that symbolized "light" in less than half an hour. A pure white and gentle light appeared from her hands, though it was only a thin and shallow layer.

"You've laid a good foundation, Miss Granger. You can definitely play a bigger role in the Spellbook Club."

Hermione was taken aback for a moment, then exclaimed excitedly, "Professor, is the Spellbook Club about to begin?"

"Yes, the announcement will be made next Monday."

Hermione was very excited about the Rune Club, as the professor had previously stated that he would focus on teaching practical knowledge of ancient runes.

For the rest of the time, Hermione practiced alone, while Felix flipped through a large book, his fingertips always dancing with various magical symbols.

But Hermione looked extremely tired, yawning constantly, and she heard the professor's voice coming—

Did you use the time converter today?

Hermione looked over in a panic, and Professor Hyp was looking at her with a scrutinizing gaze through the thick book.

"What? Uh, oh..." It took her a while to calm down. "There's never enough time. I have so much homework, extra spell practice, and I have to read some reference books... I spent six hours just this morning."

Felix shook his head. "I can already imagine how busy you are. Are you planning to make one day feel like two, or even three?"

Hermione didn't say anything.

"Actually, I suggest you give up on one or two..."

"No, I don't want to give up," Hermione interrupted him, her voice firm.

"If that's the case, you could consult Percy Weasley. As far as I know, he got 12 certificates on the OWLs exams."

Hermione nodded in agreement with the suggestion.

She was genuinely curious about how Percy used the time-tamper; it had only been a week, and she was already exhausted.

"Could you describe what it feels like to use a time converter?"

Hermione noticed that Professor Hyp had hidden his face behind his large book again and asked her calmly. She thought for a moment and described her experience: "I felt like I was flying backwards, but actually I wasn't moving at all..."

"You think the scene is moving?"

"That's right."

"Besides that, what else do you feel?"

"I heard some strange noises, like a drum pounding in my ear. I tried to speak, but I couldn't hear anything. I could only see some blurry patterns, somewhat like clouds."

"Thank you, Miss Granger, your answer has greatly satisfied my curiosity."

After a brief conversation, the office fell silent.

Felix didn't put down his book until Hermione left. "The mystery of time..."

The next day, a new week began.

After Felix finished his first class, he took a break and went to the headmaster's office to hand over the three viewing mirrors to Dumbledore.

"A clever concept. I suspect it might incorporate a tracking charm. Oh, and not only that, I also noticed some of Nick's techniques. It seems you two have been communicating quite frequently lately."

His silver-white beard was tied up, and he was currently examining a miniature, walnut-sized endoscope through a crescent-shaped lens.

"You can tell?" Felix asked in surprise.

"I was also obsessed with alchemy when I was young, and Nick gave me some pointers, but unfortunately, I didn't continue down that path," Dumbledore said regretfully.

Felix suddenly remembered the description of the old man he had seen on a Chocolate Frog card a long, long time ago. One sentence resurfaced in his mind:

"—A very fruitful collaboration with partner Nicolas Lemaître on alchemy."

So, the principal's alchemy skills aren't bad either? He thought of the deluminator he'd glimpsed by chance.

He suddenly realized that he only had a very superficial understanding of Dumbledore's past, such as defeating the dark wizard Grindelwald, suppressing Voldemort, and the series of papers he published in his youth.

But what else did he know? He knew that the principal had a sweet tooth, enjoyed chamber music, and loved stone ball rolling.

Felix couldn't help but let his imagination run wild.

"No problem, Felix, you've done a superb job," Dumbledore said.

After Dumbledore confirmed that everything was correct, he took his leave.

"If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave now, Headmaster Dumbledore."

"I have nothing more to say but my thanks, Felix," said Dumbledore. "Oh, and by the way, your hat is very nice."

Felix left with a stern face, refusing to respond to the remark. As he left, he caught a glimpse of Principal Phineas Black gesturing at him, seemingly a subtle reminder of their conversation from a week earlier.
