A certain Hogwarts professor of runes
Chapter 219 Divination Talent?
Chapter 221 Divination Talent?
"Let's find the right runes quickly," Hermione reminded them. "This lesson is very important. If you can find runes that suit you, I can tutor you..."
"You've mastered all these runes? These aren't theoretical runes, they're practical runes!" Ron exclaimed in surprise.
"Don't talk nonsense, how could I possibly know it all?" Hermione said. "But I'll definitely learn faster than you guys!"
After that, Harry and Ron became much more enthusiastic. Not only them, but the other young wizards were also very interested in this novel way of teaching.
Daphne Greengrass circled around a slender, delicate, dark green rune. "I feel like it's talking to me, but I can't hear it."
"That says enough," said a Gryffindor next to her, irritated; he hadn't learned a thing yet. "Please, give up your seat."
Neville stretched out his round hand towards a fiery red rune. "Get out of my way, Longbottom," Draco said, with two henchmen beside him. He stared greedily at the rune, which appeared to be the brightest of all the symbols.
Neville shrank back a step, then insisted on staying where he was. "I was here first," he muttered.
"What did you say? I didn't hear you. Maybe you want to experience the power of the Leg Lock Curse again?" Draco threatened in a low voice.
"What happened?" Felix suddenly appeared; he had been keeping a close eye on Neville.
"It's nothing, Professor," Draco said with a reserved smile. "Longbottom probably didn't do well in Potions class and is wiping away tears right now."
Neville clenched his fists and stubbornly said, "I didn't wipe away any tears." Tears welled up in his eyes.
"Malfoy, come with me," Felix said. "The rest of you, continue. Oh, Longbottom, I think that tan rune on your left suits you well; you can try it."
He led Draco outside the classroom.
"Professor Hyp," Draco said somewhat flusteredly. He wasn't afraid of losing points, but he was afraid of having to copy two more thick books again. He still vividly remembered the lesson he learned last year.
But then he heard Professor Hyp calmly ask him, "Malfoy, tell me, does bullying the weak bring you pleasure?"
"I...I..."
"It turns out that I haven't heard you utter that word since the last time you were in detention, has it?"
Draco tried to deny it, but he felt his thoughts had already been read. "No," he said softly.
The word is "Mudblood".
"Isn't this great? I've always thought you were a smart student, ever since you came up with the idea of dragging dark magic items with a scarf."
Felix said, "I think you can do much more than that, Malfoy. Prove it to me."
When Draco returned to the classroom, Pansy Parkinson immediately approached him. "Draco, did you get a demerit or were you put in detention?"
"No," Draco said blankly, "the professor praised me."
That afternoon, the recruitment poster for the Magic Rune Club that had been hanging on the bulletin board for several weeks was finally taken down and replaced by a long list of names.
"There are only seven people in the first tier."
A young wizard muttered, "Hermione Granger, Fred Weasley, George Weasley, that's three Gryffindors alone."
"That's normal. Granger is the assistant in the spellcasting class. Legend has it that she is proficient in more than one practical spell, and has roughly mastered more than one hundred. She can easily break the armrests of solid wood chairs. And those twins, have you heard of the Couple Mirrors?" his friend said.
"Hehe—well, I've already pre-ordered it, but I won't get it until Halloween."
"They acted so fast! I was still hesitating!"
"First come, first served".
"Who are the rest?"
"There's only one Hufflepuff, Cedric Diggory, and he's definitely the best. Besides him, there are two Ravenclaws and one Slytherin—that prefect named Geoffrey, the one who's usually quite arrogant."
On the third-floor staircase of the castle, Felix was talking to a little girl with messy, golden hair, her wand tucked behind her left ear.
Luna Lovegood handed him two pieces of parchment.
"What's this?" Felix asked, taking it.
"It's my paper, but I only wrote two feet; it's not enough words."
"You want me to help you get through this by cheating? You're not old enough," Felix said with a laugh.
"No, I was worried you'd be upset if you couldn't find anyone, so I just wrote something down. I went to check on the day of the assessment, but there were so many people that I didn't go in," Luna said, shaking her hair. "I even suggested that Ravenclaw students apply."
Felix said with a strange expression, "I've heard more than one Ravenclaw student say that there's a madman... a second-year student who goes around promoting the Spellbook Club to them."
"Yes, that's my nickname, Crazy Girl. I don't think it's that bad."
"Thank you, Miss Lovegood."
"We're friends, aren't we?" She looked at him as if to confirm.
"That's right, Luna."
Luna laughed. "By the way, there is something I actually want to ask you..."
Felix looked at her. "As long as I know."
"I met a professor a couple of days ago, and she kept inviting me to become her assistant."
Felix wondered if he had misheard. This method seemed so familiar. Which professor had learned it from him and was trying to slack off?
"Who invited you?" he asked.
"I don't know him either, I've never seen him before," she said, shaking her head.
"You can at least describe what it looks like, right?"
"She was wearing a beautiful pair of insect-themed glasses, a sparkly transparent shawl, and she had more bracelets on her wrists than I did," she described earnestly, emphasizing, "much more!"
Upon hearing these descriptions, Felix thought, "How come they sound so much like Sybil Trelawney?" However, Luna's Trelawney was portrayed in a far too embellished way; it's no wonder they're both Ravenclaws…
He looked Luna over carefully and tentatively asked, "How did you two meet?"
Luna Lovegood was only a second-year student, so in theory, she shouldn't have had any contact with Sybil Trelawney.
"That day, I came out of classroom number seven and, thinking I had nothing to do, I wandered around the castle. On the eighth floor, I came across a very interesting portrait of a knight—he was looking for his lost horse. We chatted for a bit, and he told me that there were free performances to watch in the trapdoor room in the north tower."
"You mean Trelawney? I didn't know she had a passion for performing?" Felix was somewhat incredulous, but Trelawney's residence was indeed on the top floor of the North Tower, connected to her divination classroom.
Luna nodded first, then put on a horrified expression, "It's...it's ominous...darling, don't force me, I can't say!" Then she said in a serious tone, "It's this kind of acting, to be honest, I'm not very good at it."
Felix said blankly, "And then what happened? She wouldn't have chosen you just because you peeked into her dark history... or because of her performance, would she?"
"No, except she seemed a little excited—maybe I interrupted her. But later she said I might have some kind of clairvoyance and invited me to be her assistant."
Felix asked, "Have you ever heard of divination?"
"Yes," Luna blinked her light-colored eyes, "yes, it's one of the electives for third-year students, but I'm not planning to take divination."
Why?
"I prefer looking at the stars. A centaur friend of mine taught me astrology and gave me some sage and mallow. When roasted, they attract a swarm of smoke-like creatures that make prophecies by contorting themselves into various shapes," Luna said.
"So you're just observing the shape of the smoke, right?" Felix guessed.
"—And I've already decided to take Ancient Runes and Magical Creatures Conservation next year, so there might be a time conflict."
