Chapter 19 The Last Banquet
"Felix!"
Henry opened his arms and gave his old friend a big hug.
The two suits of armor clashed together with a clang.
Talia watched the two boys fooling around with a sense of satisfaction.
"Sister Talia."
Emily naturally came to Talia's side.
"Little Emily is so cute tonight."
Talia affectionately brushed the little priest's nose.
Emily's face immediately turned red.
Mark didn't go forward; he stood a little distance away and watched.
Well...
They haven't known each other for very long, and being too familiar with each other would seem deliberate and awkward.
However, Mark keenly sensed that Felix was emanating an unprecedented, suffocating aura, like a lurking beast.
"Captain, you've changed jobs!"
Mark's surprised voice interrupted their conversation.
Upon hearing this, Henry released his grip and looked his friend up and down.
Felix didn't hide anything, and clenched his right fist and pounded it twice on his breastplate.
Bang! Bang!
Dark red battle patterns suddenly appeared on the bright white armor, and a faint metallic smell wafted through the air.
Felix explained with pride.
"This is my first job advancement talent, 'Battle Intent Bloodline,' which can enhance my attributes in all aspects, and the longer the battle lasts, the stronger the enhancement becomes."
"Hiss~"
Henry was so shocked he couldn't speak.
Mark's eyes also betrayed his longing.
As expected of a class-specific talent, its strength has increased by leaps and bounds.
Mark was about to ask for more details, but Felix had already invited everyone to sit down.
"Let's eat first."
clap clap!
Felix clapped his hands twice, and the waiters filed in, bringing the sumptuous feast to the table with silver trays and plates, like a flowing galaxy.
As the silver cover was lifted, the fragrant dishes were revealed: cold-brewed shrimp broth, butter-baked rainbow trout rolls with caviar, black pepper grilled beef short ribs, fairy fruit sorbet...
During the banquet, everyone laughed and chatted, clinking glasses and creating a particularly lively atmosphere.
As the atmosphere reached its climax, Felix gently put down his glass and coughed softly, drawing everyone's attention.
"Actually, I have another important announcement to make today."
The expressions on everyone's faces varied.
Henry and Emily both had bulging cheeks from eating, the difference being that one had a large bulge and the other a small one.
But Mark also noticed that Talia, who was sitting to Felix's right, hardly ate anything, and a hint of melancholy flickered in her eyes.
Felix rested his elbows on the table and spoke slowly in a consultative tone.
"The Anderson family is preparing to form a caravan to establish trade with Revaville City."
"My father and sister have both agreed that I should take charge of this caravan, since I am now the only professional in the family."
Henry immediately had a question.
"Reivaville? Is that the neutral city adjacent to the 'Naster Underground City'?"
Felix nodded with a serious expression.
"Yes. It is said that the underground city was once the residence of a powerful ancient wizard."
"Since the fall of the wizard, the monsters that were originally imprisoned have broken free of their cages and formed a unique ecosystem in the dungeons."
"This attracted countless adventurers to search for treasure, thus creating the present-day city of Revavel."
Henry said, frowning.
"You know... the 'White Eagle' is currently severely weakened and probably not suitable for a long expedition, right?"
A long silence followed. Felix didn't speak, but simply took a sip of red wine.
Having heard this, the worldly-wise Mark had already guessed what was to come.
But he didn't say anything; instead, he buried his head in his food.
Emily was still licking her ice cream, completely bewildered.
Talia hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but then stopped herself.
This eerie atmosphere made Henry feel uneasy.
Sure enough, Felix spoke again.
"Henry, I hope you can take over as captain of the 'White Hawk'."
"Take over as captain?"
These words exploded in Henry's mind.
He seemed to understand instantly, slammed his hand on the table, stood up abruptly, and questioned the man in a fit of anger and embarrassment.
"What do you mean? Now that you're a professional, you look down on 'White Eagle,' is that it, Felix Anderson?!"
Talia could no longer help but speak up to persuade her.
"Henry, don't say that!"
"Should I say that?"
Henry looked at Talia in disbelief, then switched back and forth between Felix and then suddenly realized.
"I understand, you're going with him too! No wonder you two are always inseparable; you've been planning to abandon us all along!"
"You fucking traitors, you adulterers, you bastards..."
In the end, Henry's roar turned into a sob.
Enraged by this humiliation, Talia was also furious.
"You're so stubborn..."
But Felix stopped her from saying anything further.
The entire room fell silent, save for the man's lonely sobs.
Mark's voice broke the silence.
"Is it because of the guild?"
The crying stopped abruptly, and everyone's eyes instantly turned to the person in the main seat.
Under everyone's gaze, Felix slowly nodded.
"I made a promise with Eugene. Regardless of whether the job change is successful or not, once I obtain the job change badge, I must leave Pinewood Town forever."
Upon learning the truth, Henry sniffled and said anxiously.
"Why didn't you say so sooner? We could have gone with you!"
"I don't want to leave; that place sounds like a real pain."
Mark silently complained to himself.
"no."
Felix flatly refused.
"In that place, even first-tier professionals can barely protect themselves, let alone the unemployed. Besides, your family is here."
Henry was now speechless.
Felix rose and walked to his side, took out a bronze badge engraved with a white eagle emblem, and solemnly placed it in Henry's hand.
"Henry, I don't want 'White Eagle' to disappear. Mark and Emily are too young; only you can shoulder this responsibility."
"Promise me you'll protect 'White Eagle,' at least let the eaglets grow up, okay?"
All the conflicts and anger vanished in that moment.
Henry clutched the badge tightly and embraced Felix with tears in his eyes.
"I promise you!"
"Phew~"
With a weight lifted from his heart, Felix turned to Henry and gave him detailed instructions.
"Mark is wise; if you encounter a problem, listen to his advice."
"Although Emily's help is limited at the moment, I hope you will treat her the same way."
Henry responded in a deep voice.
"Don't worry, as long as I'm here, no one can bully them."
Mark touched his nose, while Emily lowered her head in shame.
Henry looked at Talia with some concern.
"Didn't you say that the unemployed would have a difficult time there?"
Felix and Talia held hands tightly, and Felix answered decisively.
"I will protect her with my life."
"Philip~"
Their eyes met, and everything was understood without a word.
The banquet was drawing to a close.
Felix gave Mark and Emily 5 gold coins each for the loot they had acquired, and also gave Emily a golden Dawn Badge, admonishing her that as long as she devoutly infused it with holy light every day, it would automatically transform into a class change badge within a few years.
Talia then tossed Mark a scroll of parchment, which contained her insights on how she acquired the skill "Precision Shooting," and the content was very much in line with her personality—easy to understand.
Finally, everyone raised their glasses in a toast to a better reunion in the future.
