Chapter 46 Brain Core Slime King

Golan Forest, Merito Falls.

Ancient trees reach for the sky in the mountains and forests, with lush branches and leaves, and verdant vines hanging down like curtains.

The turbulent waterfall plunges down a cliff hundreds of meters high, the water crashing against the rocks and breaking into spray before falling into a shallow pool more than ten meters wide below.

The pool was only two or three meters deep, with clear water that revealed no sand or stones at the bottom. Instead, piles of white bones spilled out of the water, gleaming coldly under the blazing sun.

Meanwhile, the surrounding area was already packed with animals.

However, this is not a chaotic collection, but rather one with strict hierarchical boundaries.

The innermost circle closest to the pool was once a gathering place for monsters, but now only a bunch of noisy green goblins, two or three lone dire wolves, and a few staggering cat demons remain.

Beyond the inner circle lies the forest of wild animals.

Jackals, wolves, tigers, leopards, pigs, deer, cattle, sheep, rabbits, mice, birds, and sparrows roamed about, standing side by side, and at first glance, it seemed to be full of vitality and all things were thriving.

But their eyes had long lost their former liveliness; each one had a murky gaze, looking towards the waterfall with a morbid longing surging in their eyes.

Suddenly, a heart-wrenching wail erupted from the herd of beasts.

An old monkey collapsed to the ground, its limbs twitching, white foam bubbling from the corners of its mouth, and broken sobs rolling from its throat.

The surrounding monkeys immediately swarmed around, their eyes gleaming with greed and fervor, and soon the old monkey's mournful cries came to an abrupt halt.

Just then, the clamor of the beasts seemed to be paused, and a suffocating silence filled the air.

The waterfall slowly splits to both sides, and a slime as big as a house wriggles out of a cave behind the curtain of water.

boom--

The massive gelatinous mass crashed into the pool, sending white bones flying everywhere with a crunching sound. An invisible pressure spread like ripples throughout the area, causing all living beings to tremble and prostrate themselves on the ground.

This is an unusual slime.

Aside from its enormous size, the gelatinous body was not green, blue, or brown, but nearly transparent, with root-like white meridians growing inside, converging into a core the size of a human head in the center.

This core has a grayish base color and a surface with crisscrossing wrinkles, just like a human brain!

The Brain Core Slime King fell into the pool.

Despite lacking eyesight, it still human-like scanned the surrounding creatures, its gelatinous body surging and churning to form a toothless maw, unleashing a deafening roar.

"roar!!"

For an instant.

The entire animal kingdom erupted in cheers and shouts, with the little monkeys holding up the old monkey's unclosed head, waving the torn limbs, and letting out sharp cries.

What followed was a well-organized tribute process.

First came the group of green-skinned goblins. A dozen or so thin figures used wooden poles to pass through the carcass of a wild boar, reached the edge of the pool, and threw the boar high into the water.

The Slime King extended a thick, transparent tentacle from beneath its massive body, pulling its prey, which had not yet sunk to the bottom, into its body. Thousands of white threads pierced the flesh, wriggling and sucking.

The wild boar shrank visibly, leaving only a thin skin covering its loose skeleton, before being heavily spat back into the pool.

Then, the slime wriggled and spat out a clump of slime towards the shore.

Upon seeing this, the goblins immediately pounced on it, kneeling down, licking, and burying their mouths and noses deep into the lump of gel.

When they looked up again, each green-skinned creature had unfocused pupils, drool at the corners of its mouth, and excitedly gesturing with its arms and legs.

The tribute from the inner circle was completed quickly.

Next came the carnivores, who threw the shredded carcasses they were carrying into the pool to extract their slime. As for the herbivores—

A white-spotted deer arrived at the edge of a pond with a newborn fawn.

The fawn trembled and nuzzled its antlers against its mother's hind legs for comfort.

But the next second, the white-spotted deer kicked with its hind legs.

The fawn fell into the water, struggling and crying out incessantly.

Huge tentacles swept over.

Amidst a mournful cry of "yoyo," the white-spotted deer mother licked the freshly fallen slime from the ground.

Such scenes were commonplace: herds of cattle pushed older oxen off the edge of the pond, and mother mice tossed their young one by one into the water...

Amidst this absurdity and chaos, a small figure, carrying an amber-colored candy in its mouth, hopped and skipped lightly to the outermost edge of the animals.

Seeing the strange sight before her, the fennec fox Vella tilted her head and recalled Clyde's parting words, so she stopped exploring and clenched her teeth slightly.

The palm-sized candy shattered with a crack, revealing a faint blue light within.

Immediately, the little fox dropped the item on the ground, turned around, and disappeared into the nearby woods without looking back, vanishing into the depths of the foliage.

The bitten candy trembled, and the coating shattered completely, revealing a blue, ethereal runestone.

hum-

The runestone flashed with blue light, and a totem half the height of a person rose from the ground. A living eyeball floated on the top of the pillar, nimbly looking left and right, its gaze slowly sweeping over the frenzied beast tide on the shore.

Finally, it froze abruptly, its pupils contracting as it locked onto the enormous, writhing brain core of the Slime King in the pool.

Meanwhile, it is three miles away from Merito Falls.

In a secluded grove of trees, Mark suddenly opened his eyes, a smug smile slowly spreading across his lips, and whispered.

"I saw it!"

"!!"

The other members of the team gathered around.

As the captain, Henry was most concerned about the situation on the other side, so he asked first.

How many magical beasts are under the waterfall?

"No more than twenty or thirty."

Henry felt a huge weight lifted from his shoulders, but Mark's words immediately put his mind at ease again.

"Besides monsters, there are also many ordinary wild animals, roughly estimated to be 1 to 2."

"What?!" x3

Now, not only Henry, but even Brady and Emily were a little unsettled.

With a population of 1 to 2, even a pig standing there waiting to be slaughtered would be enough to make your hands sore from slaughtering it, let alone wild beasts that would attack people.

"We need to revise our tactical plan."

"Yes, it would be best if there was some way to catch them all at once."

"Hmm? How many? I think it's a bit few for a first-tier leader-level monster to have only this many subordinates."

...

The group discussed tactics based on the intelligence Mark had observed.

Clyde, however, was daydreaming.

Just now, Mark mentioned that he possesses a spell with a function similar to "Eye of Magic".

However, the released magical constructs can only last for 1-2 minutes; otherwise, they will take root on their own and begin to exert their magical effects.

If we can use some means to stabilize the magical construct, we can send Vera the fennec fox deep into enemy territory with the supplies to plant a spy.

As luck would have it, Clyde actually possessed such a thing—magic gel, a type of adhesive extracted from the core of a slime that effectively prevents the dissipation of magic.

Thus, the combination of the two led to the scene just now.

"Hey! Clyde, come here right now."

Suddenly, Henry called out to Clyde, who was standing there in a daze.

"We've finished our discussion, so we'll have you lead the way."

"ha?"

Clyde pointed to himself and repeated it.

"Should I go first?"

It wasn't Henry who answered, but Mark who spoke with a smile.

"That's right. I heard you know the 'Greasy Technique'?"

"Is it related?"
